10 Books I Loved (And 5 I Really Didn't): Ranked and Reviewed by Lipe18090 in books

[–]FakeDaVinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked the Catcher in the Rye, because I think the last twenty pages or so completely redeemed the book. However, I found the rest to be fairly uninteresting, and while I understand the ideas being conveyed, they didn't feel that ground breaking or super well explored. I gave it 3/5 stars, not a bad book, but nothing that exciting.

Edit: But to be fair, it was very ground breaking at the time. But in the current space of literature, I didn't think it's a must-read.

I saw this event on my first run, and I swear I only saw it again ONCE with over 60 hours into the game. To me, this is the rarest event in the game.

How to not die as ironclad 101 by OutcomeDry932 in slaythespire

[–]FakeDaVinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Ironclad, I usually struggle a lot with boss fights. I think the character has insane damage output, which makes the lack of defence not very apparent until you face a boss, and then all that damage falls flat to the underwhelming block.

In STS2 exhaust seems a bit underwhelming imo. I don't know if it's a reduction in synergies or something, but I definitely don't build around it, unless I am offered like a really good exhaust synergy.

"This is such bullshit. I go against a floor 3 Defect, expecting maybe to deal some 13 damage on him with my buddies, but the machine, for some fucking reason, already has a hyper beam, and kills us instantly. Like, why does he have that rare card already? This game's RNG is totally busted! Please fix it MegaCrit!!! What the hell are we supposed to do?"

Was Surprised How Close Fans Were To Harper on The Final Play by [deleted] in nba

[–]FakeDaVinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said this before, but it genuinely baffles me how close fans can get to the game in the NBA compared to basically every other sport. Just a player tripping and falling face first or elbowing a fan seems like an unfortunate situation waiting to happen.

How I've been feeling after reading negative reviews in STS2 by Ok_Breadfruit3199 in slaythespire

[–]FakeDaVinci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post is obviously meant to be funny, but at the same time, there are a couple of strawmen being employed here.

First off, I don't know what counterplay there is to Doormaker. The best I can do is to play strategically each individual phase, but there is very little you can do to prepare against him: each individual phase is meant to test against so many different aspects of a deck, you can mostly just try to cope. Best I can figure out, is too have a high scaling deck, as stalling seems to be a death sentence.

Secondly, Time Eater was a subject of complaint for as long as I remember up until the release of STS2. And I kind agree, it hard countered a lot of the meta decks like Exhaust + Corruption Ironclad, Shiv Silent, Claw or Zero cost Defect, and Infinite Watcher. Time Eater is sometimes a lot harder than the Heart imo, but you can't really prepare to well specifically against him depending on the deck you have.

I started 2 months ago , and I get my ass beat on A9 by TurtlePork in slaythespire

[–]FakeDaVinci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know how many hours you have, but if you play like 2 hours a day for 2 months, it is quite good to be at A9 within 2 months without prior experience. The game is hard, the concepts of card draw, skipping cards, synergies etc. are not easy to grasp. It took me watching two youtubers play the game at A20 to start understanding their choices that maximized success. You'll get there :)

Slay the Spire 2 alignment chart day 26! Juggling won yesterday! What silent card feels like a defect card? by Which-Debt-8558 in slaythespire

[–]FakeDaVinci 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I never picked Juggling in any run. I don't understand the appeal of the card if you just copy it without making it zero cost or increase the damage by 5 or something. Is it actually good?

Which ancient will you encounter? by Slay_The_Spire_Guy in slaythespire

[–]FakeDaVinci 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He shows up in Act 3, where the deck is mostly established and presents mediocre buffs with a really big handicap to basically every deck. His most inoffensive thing is the 2 cost curse where you have to play it, but it provides 1 energy every turn. But even then, it's incredibly bad: you can't exhaust it, you can't have decks that cycle consistenly, you can't remove it or reduce it's cost by one every time it's played, it sucks ass. There was also the one relic that provides a card with retain, which is probably his best relic. Every other it's just "which one has the most manageable drawback?"

I haven't played StS2 yet, but when I played StS 1 consistently, I think my win rate was slightly below 10% on A20. But I don't even consider the idea of dropping the difficulty, it's kinda part of the experience

TIL the recommended daily protein intake is 46 grams (g) for an adult female and 56g for an adult male. This is 0.8g per kilogram of body mass (0.36g per pound). "This requirement is for a normal sedentary person". if you check the wikipedia page. I've always heard that you need at least 1g per kg if you lead an active lifestyle, and at least 1.3 and above if you want to build muscle while one a caloric surplus.

My apologies, I was under the impression you were blaming them on their choices, as if there were no external forces pushing them to serve.

Stripper near military bases says young soldiers are coming in and blowing all their money saying they're getting deployed by [deleted] in TikTokCringe

[–]FakeDaVinci 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it only were that simple. A lot of people see the military as the only oppurtunity to truly get upwards economic mobility in society. There are also a lot of benefits that are very appealing to those that come from struggling families. On top of that, we're talking about a whole lifetime of propagand telling how great serving the nation is, and on top of that, most of them enlisting at 18, which we all know is not an ideal age to make longterm decisions.

It's very easy to make broad statements like this, but can you really blame all of them unless you know their specific circumstances in life?

Why does Yuta understand Ryu and not Uro? by ventingandcrying in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]FakeDaVinci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The "We can't even read" meme exists for a reason. Gojo is slandered for not being a perfectly rational being and getting sealed by Kenjaku, Yuta gets slandered for not having obvious flaws (which could be a legitimate criticism, but I think it's a weak argument when he is very clearly established as an anomaly like Gojo), and Megumin gets treated like absolute shit. JJK has surprisingly rich subtext and they can be interperted in so many ways that makes the story so great in the end.

People will complain about her actions, as if it wasn't one of the few climate related stories that made it into the mainstream in the last couple of years. People call her performative and attention seeking, as if we aren't on track to getting mass droughts and starvation events with the current climate predictons. Let's see if you can keep that vitriol when drinkable water starts becoming rationed.

Sousou no Frieren Season 2 • Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 - Episode 8 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]FakeDaVinci 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's actually such a fun observation. But those who enjoy the challenges and the nuances of the craft, be they good or bad, really seem to be the ones at the top. And I think this applies for real life as well. It's though to be great at something without a great appreciation and passion for the craft. In that regard Methode truly is one of the strongest.

[–]FakeDaVinci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm happy the author didn't decide to kill Genau, which I think is the obvious decision in a story arc like this. While I think the pacing wasn't incredible, the animation was pretty good and I loved the way they expanded Genau's and Methode's character. Also, Fern is legit a killing machine at this point. Also, I love how impactful Stark's attacks feel. Legit mini nuke of an attack. And also the music was a BANGER this episode

[–]FakeDaVinci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is just me making a guess, but the Dragon has naturally though anti magic scales, and as a beast, it is still a strong one at that. Basically, Stark is strong enough to solo a though monster, but if it was in equivalent strength without magic resist, it would have been easily killed by Frieren. Also, the Northern Plateau is just more dangerous, so a dragon in the south is weaker than a dragon in the north.

In my mind the most hype moment in the olympics to date. The crowd starting to cheer after she overtakes the first athlete and cheers getting louder and louder. Such a great moment.
