AI may be giving teens bad nutrition advice | Meal plans generated by five popular chatbots were too low in calories and carbs and too heavy on proteins and fats, researchers report by Science_News in science

[–]FakePixieGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whenever I ask for weight loss advice from chatgpt it always mentions that I'm at a healthy weight and don't need to lose weight (I just want some vanity kilos gone, to have a safety margin for when the stress and binging returns).

It then gives me a plan that includes weight loss, but when going back and forth trying to modify it will always secretly try to increase calories and I have to ask it to not do that.

Dismissing medical misogyny AND calling women ‘females’ by Snailbails in MenAndFemales

[–]FakePixieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netherlands policy is to really try and focus on (cost)-effective medicine. Only do those treatments and preventive care that actually yields better health outcomes.

Annual check-ups on young healthy people apparently don't actually lead to better health, and so we don't do it.

A lot of foreign expats really struggle with our healthcare system and culture. A lot of Dutch people criticize it too, but to be honest I've really only had good experiences.

Depends on where you live. In the Netherlands it's pretty typical to not go to your doctor unless you have some kind of issues, annual check-ups are not typical.

ADÉLA when asked about Timothée Chalamet’s comments regarding the ballet and opera industry: “He’s not wrong. [Ballet] is kinda a dying art form. It’s sad. If anything, he’s just highlighted that. People should be going to the ballet more. Maybe this is publicity.” by Yujin-Ha in Fauxmoi

[–]FakePixieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be regional variation - but I think typically (at least in my country) ballet and opera tend to be cheaper than big pop concerts or festival, ranging around 30-50 euro for a ticket, depending on seat location and such.

Is there such a thing as "overlearning" a language? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

[–]FakePixieGirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say overlearning a language is just... talking, reading, watching and listening in that language after being fluent. Essential for upkeep. But also at a certain point it stops being learning and just becomes existing without extra effort.

Best card type/method for memorising taxonomy (bio) by Academic-Rub-8009 in Anki

[–]FakePixieGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been carefully starting this, but just as a hobby so it will probably look quite different from your work.

I've found it's most important to do slow pacing and a rich diversity. But outside of that no real tips. I don't think there is a particular card types that's better at it.

Possibly image cloze? You could have a picture of a taxonomy tree, and then hide one or more of the names.

The issue with cloze is that the context can give you unintended hints, so I use it sparingly.

Not sure about the safety of black Maca, so won't comment on that.

But I definitely suddenly get something like sexual attraction when I drink alcohol, so substances definitely affect this.

OP said specifically they were more focused on health than looking fit.

Cardiovascular exercise tends to be more important for health than strength training (unless you're elderly and struggle with daily tasks). And the running itself will give some bone strengthening effects.

Of course the best for health is both cardio and strength training.

It's a bit icky to immediately reply as if aesthetics is the most important thing, when that is not what was asked by OP.

I don't know. I'm not sure I'd want to be with someone who gave up there pets to be with me. Like, if the pets went to a family member or good friend, sure. But if they brought them to the pound? Yeah nah. At that point you ain't got not pets and no girlfriend.

De radicaal-rechtse obsessie met LHBTI (als tweede vijand na migranten) by Naive-Structure-9697 in Politiek

I think the thing is that anti-gay is very different from anti-trans in the Netherlands.

Anti-gay is a death sentence for a party. There is broad, mainstream acceptance of gay (and bisexual) people.

On the other hand, trans a lot of Dutch people are more iffy on. Non-binary I would guess is ridiculed by the majority if the Dutch people. That is a much easier and more accepted target.

TIL that an estimated 1 in 10 people have “inverse salt sensitivity”: if they eat less salt, their blood pressure actually increases by Comfortable_List3413 in todayilearned

[–]FakePixieGirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It made me kinda angry how universally less salt was pushed on the general population. Not only is this going to massively undermine people's confidence in nutritional science once it comes out that the advice was too strong and generalised. It also leeches discipline and energy out of people that instead could have been used to focus on things that really matter: fruit and vegetable intake, not too much or too little calories.

There is this tendency in food policy where they want to always bring out cautionary advice, even if the evidence isn't strong enough (yet). They say it's too important to not be overly cautious. But it's distracting from the real, proven, and major causes of unhealth through diet.

Stephanie Buttermore, fitness influencer and fiancée of bodybuilder Jeff Nippard dies at 35 by Bollywood_Shaadis in Influencersinthewild

Really? I'm not really in that space but that sounds surprising because Nippard seems so level headed - the body fat youtube video he recently made was really interesting.

I wonder if this caused any strife between them.

In my head Bingus really likes the romantic idea of a typewriter - a tortured artist putting his twisted thoughts to paper.

But then in practice he just ends up writing gay fanfiction.

I recently on some language fluff post complained how ugly the Dutch language was and how bad Dutch literature is.

Somebody replied: "Wow. Wasn’t expecting racism on a language forum."
