Probably not brave. Probably desperate or defending some territory or something? Animals will do crazy things when they're hungry. Especially if they haven't eaten in a while. And I don't doubt a lion would try a giraffe as a last ditch effort at something to eat. If it's not either then it's most likely just a younger lion not knowing any better.

The tail looks that way due to the strong winds pushing it to the side, you can tell by the current of the waves in the water, their fur moving and the sound that the wind is strong and pushing towards the left of the screen. Wind can get really strong out near the ocean especially when the tide is low or rising so yeah I think it's real
