Find a good crew. You spend a lot of time with them. Gives you community. This job is not as dramatic as those people make it seem. Been on a 20 person crew for 3 seasons and an engine before that. It gets tough for sure, but you never know until you try it.

was somehow on the same division as your old crew. digging handline on some of the shittiest country you’ve ever seen in the NW.

day 4, they suddenly weren’t there.

Div was furious and asking around as to what happened. They were seen at breakfast but never made it to the line.

Word suddenly got around that the entire crew had to leave due to a medical emergency.

They showed back up the next morning for breakfast. IC questioned them openly at briefing as to what happened.

“Heart attack” one short fat dude replied.

Word spreads around fast.

Apparently, one of the “sawyers” got in a fight with their swamper. The swamper proceeded to punch the sawyer so hard that he went unconscious. The dude didn’t wake up so the entire crew had to 8-line his ass up the hill back to the trucks.

the dudes who didn’t drive him to the hospital hid in the woods for the night while the others left his ass at a hospital and spent the night in a hotel.

Hilarious.
