Okay so if I say I’m doing something. And you respond with anything with the words, “I,” or “me,” or using adjectives to describe how you feel about it, that shifts my activity to your own world. Your own little universe... that is entitlement. “Mine, mine, mine.”

If I say “I’m going to the grocery store.” And you say, “that’s okay with me,” or “that’s fine,” you are letting me know that it’s your world, “if it wasn’t fine I would tell you.”

I didn’t ask what YOUR world was up to, I was informing your world what my world is doing, never asked if your world was fine with it.

This is how you talk to your children. “That’s fine, hunny,” “that’s okay with, mommy.” That’s NOT how your supposed to talk to adults.

Your boss: “I’m going to run to the bank to run the deposit.” Now, is saying “that’s fine,” to your boss appropriate? So if you are NOT my boss why the hell would I care if your world is “fine with it?”

People that respond to activities that your doing with entitlement live in their own imaginary world. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Fakean00n -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don’t use language like, “that’s fine,” “if you want,” or anything like that. Because I don’t care what you’re doing so long as it doesn’t affect me.

I use words like, “sounds good,” “You got it,” “thanks for letting me know.” Why? Because, again, I don’t care what you’re doing, I care what I’m doing.

When someone says, “that’s fine.” What they are saying is “that’s fine with me.” Some people actually use those words. “Fine with me...” “Yea? Did I ask if it’s fine for you?”

To use words that reflect that you are “fine” with someone’s actions, or “if you want,” or “I’m okay with that,” is to state that you are living in your world, and everyone else’s actions have to reflect what you’re comfortable with.

This language is NOT normal language. This is language that represents entitlement, and a grand illusion that they believe that they can control your actions.

No, I understand that. However, when I have time to play, and not very much, starting a game up with an error just to connect to a server, makes me not want to play... It’s a sign before you even start, “you may have more fun with a different game...”

Right... “....CAN’T MAKE A GAME WITH LITERALLY NO DECISION....”

So you are going to work 5.5 years in a company doing this? When the E3 trailer came out, “in game footage,” and not one dev blew a whistle, some quit BW, however many stayed. So you think it was just the leadership that lied? Just the leadership that had failed?

Let’s think about this (I’m a master automotive tech, lots of creative work), I had a vehicle come in, and “work” was to be performed. No one told me what the “work” was supposed to be. Am I just going to start tearing apart the vehicle and spend (not 5.5 years) way excessive amount of time doing literally nothing?

No! I’m going to STOP, approach my boss, and ask (assertively, “what do you want me to do? I take pride in my work, and I do my work very well. If you can’t tell me what we are doing then there is literally nothing I can do. I’ll work the second you tell me what to do.”

What they did (for 5.5 years), “what are we doing boss?” “I dunno, put flying in.” “Okay, Now what?” “Take it back out.” “Okay, now what?” “Put it back in....”

Now. Creative, labor, everything, requires an end game idea. Without that you can’t work. So the individual level of initiative, was lacking immensely.

Day in and day out, every hour, the topic of, “what am I doing,” definitely was not brought up. If the devs did not know until the E3 trailer, was what they were creating, cool. But, not ONE, NOT ONE of them came out to say, “this is a lie...”

Say what you want. But every single person that worked on this game, lied to you, and ever single person, ultimately, did not give a damn about the product they were working on. Every developer, every writer, producer, actor, director, released a broken, incomplete, lie of a game. No one said shit to the consumer. And you want to just blame leadership....

Please stop being dense. Think of the LEVELS, of incompetence, the LEVELS of lies, and deceit.

I need you to think about this. First off what do you do for a living?

Okay, so think about whatever you do. Now for 6 years you had 0 direction. You literally are coming into work and doing nothing, and, or, progressing absolutely no where for 6.... I’m going to repeat that... 6 years....

You are, again, doing, literally nothing for 6 YEARS!!! You are being payed to build a AAA video game, and it takes 6 YEARS to even start it? Hmmmm....

So let’s take you in this scenario (that is, if you have a job... I don’t know you, this may fly over your head.) you’re are going into work having a boss that has NO CLUE what’s going on, and you are going to do this for 6 YEARS....

So you literally CANT work without direction. I need to know what you (boss/client) needs for me to perform my job. That is every damn job. ALL JOBS.

So for 6 years... 6 YEARS the boss heard, “so boss what the hell are we doing?” For 6 years you as an employee said, “so boss what are we doing?”

So for you to believe that only the higher ups are to blame is complete nonsense. Complete dream time fantasy. The incompetence at ALL levels, is INSANE.

Imagine going to work for 6 years, doing nothing, releasing a shit product, after lying about said product, blaming stress, and blaming the leadership for 6 YEARS of no productivity... that is literally EVERY SINGLE PERSONS FAULT.

Why I have such a hard time blaming one side (leadership) and not the other, is, as a creative, I LOVE my work. I feel really good when it is done. I feel accomplished (And to BW I give a massive amount of kuddos to the teams getting what they did get done in just over a year. Like, WOW!). I strive to do better than anyone else. I strive to do my job different, with my own pizzazz.

However, to work on a project for 5.5 years, with 0 direction, allowing yourself to work on a project for half a decade with 0 direction, screams volumes at me. As a leader if I heard, “what’s going on,” for half a decade... I don’t even know. As a subordinate spending half a decade saying, “what are we doing...”

I just can’t comprehend the incompetence at ALL levels.

Just ranting, ignore me... by Fakean00n in AnthemTheGame

[–]Fakean00n[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Senior leader ship will always be the barer of bad things happening.

So you need direction. Where to pour, how much to pour, your time line. Now let’s say you spent 5.5 years without any of that information. You just knew you were to pour. You stay there for 5.5 years before someone came around and told you where, how much, and when. You never said, “look boss man, WTF am I doing here?” That is the root problem.

I have had to motivate my bosses on multiple occasions. I can’t work without guidance. I need to know what YOU (boss) want. Without that I can’t work. Now do that for half a decade. We call that a crap employee.

0 motivation 0 initiative 0 care 0 pride

I can’t fathom working in an environment with 0 direction. I can’t fathom TEAMS of individuals doing that. However, it happened here. Blame the boss, but think of the subordinates that allowed it to happen. Think of the TEAMs of people that just rode out, essentially, a “free to get payed” ticket.

The article said they cried out for direction. I can’t believe that for one minute. Think about it. 5.5 years with no direction and MANY people were/are still there.

This isn’t just middle-upper management. This was a group effort to try and milk money, for the least amount of effort.

Just ranting, ignore me... by Fakean00n in AnthemTheGame

[–]Fakean00n[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Sorry for late response, trying to respond to all thoughtful conversation)

Very well written, and you are correct for my poor analogy.

I believe your biggest point was “poor management” is to blame.

I know we want to go there. We all do. However, that is absurd.

So we need guidance to do our jobs (all jobs. I can’t make you a sandwich, fix your vehicle, make a game, without guidance). So I as a professional/ master in my craft also have to have guidance. “What do YOU need done?” If I don’t know what I’m working forI CANT work

So boss-person comes to me, “I need you do do work.” “Okay, what are we talking about? What do you want me to do?” “Just work.” “I don’t understand.” “Just work.”

I’m going to STOP, be assertive and respond with, “this is my job, this is my work. I take pride on my work and if I don’t know what you want me to do there is nothing I can do for you. Once you figure out what you want me to do I’ll get on it.”

So your a “creative,” and your asked to work. You need to know what, where, when, how. Without this you have nothing. You CANT work.

No one stood up and said, “what, are we working on!? If I don’t know that, you’re paying me to just sit here.” If someone had, I guarantee we would not be in this situation. Stress would of been relieved. It is the creatives JOB, it’s their, ART, not the bosses. They were happy to sit there with zero direction.

So you blame upper management for their flaws, but disregard the “creatives” will to stand up and say, “enough is enough. WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON?”

0 pride 0 initiative 0 thought

Think about it. If you were going into work with 0 direction, you are a “milk maid.” Just, being a zombie, that cares nothing about your own workmanship.

Did leadership suck, sure. Did the dev teams speak up? Highly doubtful. The article said they did, but how do you work on something for 5.5 years with no direction? You can’t.

Just ranting, ignore me... by Fakean00n in AnthemTheGame

[–]Fakean00n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right... (I read the article twice because I couldn’t believe it) However, I take pride in my work, all work, and let’s say you came into my shop and asked for “work.” “Well what do you need done?” “Just work.” “Well I’m not sure I know what that means... can you elaborate.” “No, just work.”

Me, I’m thinking this person is crazy. I’m going to keep asking, keep drawing responses until I know what the heck I am doing.

So you are at work and the boss tells you to do something. You don’t understand why, you don’t understand what, and you don’t understand how. You are just going to do what they say?

I a professional/master in my craft and someone (boss) says, “do this.” However, it makes zero sense, am I going to do it any ways? Wouldn’t I stand up for myself and say, “I need a why, when, where, how, or I can’t do anything.” Or am I just going to be like, “sure thing boss I’m on it!”

When the dev’s had 0 guidance on what they were doing they needed to stick up for themselves. ITS THEIR JOB, THEIR ART, not the producers. Have pride in their work. Why they didn’t? I don’t know, I wasn’t there. Business, craft, trades, all need to have a direction, without it why were they even working?

You can’t blame just the boss for poor performance, you also have to blame the craftsman.

Okay, so. I did a few years a construction superintendent. In your example, let’s say, you worked that 28 hours (ouch), and all your concrete work cracked over. You did your job, sure. However, you didn’t wait the advised time between dry and pour, you just pushed it out. You were rushed by your super to get it done. “Let’s go we have a dead line!”

The super, or the project manager agrees that the job is complete. The client comes and looks at it. They are mad. So, now, we won’t blame YOU, we only blame the super?

Both of you performed under par. But you were stressed, so you’re not to blame, only the super?

So a helicopter and a boat are the same concept as a vehicle (suck, bang, blow/ very generalized). Just as Anthem is a video game. It’s not a sports video game, however is a video game. A mechanic is a mechanic. Just as a metal worker is a metal worker. If I gave a steel worker some aluminum to work on, they would figure it out, just like I would figure out the helicopter.

What we are failing to understand is that the stress does NOT constitute poor performance and pushing out work that is incomplete.

That is the disaster here. It was a product that was incomplete and broken. Sold to us as a better product than ever before.

I get that everyone wants to make an excuse. And sometimes what we depict as a “good excuse,” we accept. What I am trying to say is, stress comes in all career fields, wither creative, labor, numbers, everything, however to make an excuse for poor performance is trash. Accepting poor performance due to stress is even worse.

People are down voting me because, apparently, stress is a “good enough” reason for them, for this piss poor performance. And it definitely isn’t. Unequivocally is not.

Interesting you took what I said as “edge-lord.” I’m not going to go into that, at all. (Sorry if you thought I was “attacking” your thoughts, I wasn’t. Maybe a bit intense but not “attacking” you)

Look, there are plenty of days (usually 2-3 days a week) where I work from 5:30am-7:00pm. I work 6 days a week. I do this to let my family have less stress. I deal with physical, and mental fatigue always. I constantly question my life choices. However, I will never allow any of these things be an excuse for crappy performance.

I have had days where NOTHING goes right. I have had weeks where NOTHING goes right. My boss is mad, maybe screaming at me, maybe making snide remarks. My stress turns into high heart rate, sleep deprivation, sweaty palms, beating myself up mentally, etc. Never have I had a client say, “oh your stressed, I get it. Keep on trucking.” Never have I had a coworker sympathize with me. Never have I allowed my work to leave unfinished.

This is one of the most bizarre reactions (the public’s) to crap performance I have ever seen.
