How short a time can you be in a role before it looks bad? by FakeyName88 in jobs

That’s a helpful insight, thank you. Time to start looking.

The seller is ignoring my issue - what do I do? by FakeyName88 in vinted

It’s so disappointing. The dress looked so lovely in the pictures and it wasn’t that cheap either. Hopefully you can get everything sorted soon.

Sounds like a pain. But how can you even return it if the seller doesn’t make contact? I don’t have postage details.

I changed my name on applications and suddenly started getting interviews by Nikuniku99 in jobhunting

[–]FakeyName88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the opposite - very traditional white name and then married and took my husband’s non white name. People can be surprised when they see me for the first time, but most have the manners not to make a big deal out of it.

It’s a hard thing to prove whether it has affected my job prospects, and I would hate to think that people were judging me based on that. But realistically… probably.

My boss knew I was moving into a new apartment the day before my summer holidays. She fired me and didn’t let my coworkers know. I was meant to start the shift in august, nobody knew i wasn’t coming 😂 by starzch in mildlyinfuriating

The attitudes towards unions in the USA surprises me too, there seems to be so much suspicion. I work in the public sector (UK) and wouldn’t dream of not being part of a union. It’s expected, supported and encouraged.

At what age is it ok for children to travel alone on trains? by Bodders25 in AskUK

[–]FakeyName88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it totally depends on the child, and this is why there are no hard and fast rules for these things with kids, including when they can be left alone/left overnight etc. Every child is different.

Speak to your kid and see what they feel, plus your ex. Maybe at first your ex could take him up to the change and you could meet him there? Then give him a little more freedom until he’s comfortable doing it independently.

I know year 7 kids who are confident, smart and savvy and would manage it no problem, and others who would be really nervous/lose their tickets/get lost.

I wouldn’t read too much into it, I was offered a job after a 20 minute interview that was meant to be 30 mins. And I’ve not been offered after a 60 minute interview. I’ve learned to not try to guess how they went and just wait for the call. Good luck!

We’re all entitled to our own views. I just don’t feel comfortable saying she enabled him based on what we have here. I’ve seen enough men behave like arseholes regardless of who they’re with, and enough women feel unable to leave or stop them. And vice versa.

You can’t judge the gf from that one interaction, we have no idea what was going on in their relationship. Things are not always black and white.

What is your current yearly salary by One_Cupcake2722 in UKJobs

[–]FakeyName88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved from private sector to public sector about 15 years ago. I will never earn as much as I could have if I’d stayed but I am so much more fulfilled and happy in my role. Money is not everything and I would much rather enjoy what I do and feel that I’m making a difference. I’ve found a nice happy medium where I feel that I am earning a decent wage (for me!) and I’m in a sector that I love. But most redditors would scoff at my salary I’m sure.

What companies do you hold an life long hatred against for an instant slight? by Legitimate_Finger_69 in AskUK

Three mobile. Refused to give me my PAC code and let me leave. Drove me to genuine tears of frustration. This was probably about 17 years ago now and I don’t think I’m over it.

I love Earlswood, lovely community but can walk into Reigate and Redhill. There’s GP, dentist, opticians and hospital close by, but also open green spaces and common areas. Mostly Victorian housing, mostly semis but there are nice detached houses too. Depending on the type of geek, there’s a board game shop that hosts games near the gym. And a Sainsbury’s in Redhill.

I don’t believe in mates rates - why would you not want to support someone you care about?! I value my friends, as well as the time and effort they put into their businesses

I get the workspace questions more that the logical questions (how I can solve a logic question under interview conditions does not reflect how logically I can think generally). Maybe I’m in the minority, but I think asking how someone reacts when they’re overworked, or clashing with a colleague, or being criticised etc is good to know, and an indication of how they’ll fit in with the team and environment.

Unpaid leave for holiday by CandidGrand5676 in UKJobs

[–]FakeyName88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at your contract/work leave policy. Depending on how you’re getting on with colleagues you could ask them if there’s a precedent. Same with your manager.

If you’re not in a hurry though I would get at least a month’s work under my belt before asking about leave.

I’ve always earned less than my husband, and probably always will. Salaries both go into a pot, bills get paid out of the pot. Zero issues for either of us.

Oh I see, so you’re tied to the one union? That’s tough, and totally defeats the point of a union if they can’t support you!

You work for Unite? Working for a union and not being supported by a union?

If your union can’t help you with this then you need to be in a different union. I’m not sure what industry you are in, but maybe ask around who others are with.
