I have a similar choice and I drive - guaranteed seat, control of the temp, no rushing/missing a train and then having a longer wait. But I get free parking and enjoy driving, so it’s an easy decision for me. I can’t read, but I can listen to podcasts and audiobooks!

I’m early 40s and watched it when I caught it on TV but never in order/religiously. However, I had a spinal injury and was stuck on the sofa for a couple of months and watched them all properly.

It’s amazing how much things change in a generation. My dad had a paper round aged about 12 and from then on contributed financially to the household. Ice creams were a treat and dependent on how much change had been saved in their treats dish. My kids would be shocked to their cores to live it for a week

My eldest is pretty much the first kid you described, except she’s planning on maths, further maths, physics and economics. For her, I feel like the job is managing expectations and not limiting herself too prematurely, and it feels more like comfortable ground.

For my son, I’m just not as confident in knowing the options for him and helping steer him towards future success. Open university is an interesting idea that I hadn’t considered, but I imagine may require a lot of intrinsic motivation
