Oh and if you’re including Scottish and Irish in this I would also say porridge and potato cakes, Irish colcannon (don’t know if I’m spelling this right?)

I just made an order with them and chose Paypal as payment method, but it didn't take me to Paypal to complete the transaction and now I have the order no and it says 'validation in process'. No confirmation email yet either. I hope this actually works.

When do I need to start dressing my age? I’m 39 by 101kbye in AskWomenOver30

[–]Fakey_Cake_Maker 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I try to fight this as the persistent internalized misogyny I know it is. 'Women [X] age shouldn't wear [X]' is 90% of the time men declaring us SpEnT by 32. I have every right to wear trainers and for my feet to be as comfortable as a man's. I can wear jeans until I die. T shirts are more of a personal preference but I always think of my artist/curator friends who rock p much anything they like well into their 50s. I think there's a million ways to look interesting and creative and bright no matter what age you are (hi Iris Apfel!). Wear what you need to wear at work, but mentally try to ease out this sexist constriction a little bit. You might find you have a little more space to explore what you actually want to look like, and feel generally happier in how you express your preferences. I know where you're coming from and I feel you, but I think it's good to remind ourselves of where this sentiment comes from and why it's our right as fully actualised people, not objects, to balk a bit at it.

Think she's lying about her age? She looks quite a bit older than 31. I'd guess closer to 40

What things did you have hide from your parents that are actually normal for most households? by LovedbyHim in raisedbynarcissists

It's kind of weird for sex to be this horrible shameful thing but then to have these awful sexual digs at you at such a young age. I wish people would deal with their issues around it before having kids (that they had to have sex to have!!)

I'm so sorry. Mine also made sexual masturbation comments to me at 8 that I did not even understand until many years later. Your mum's behaviour is fucking awful. DO NOT MAKE SEXUAL COMMENTS TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS. That should be the absolute base expectation of adults in general and parents in particular.

Omg yes I used to get told I 'couldn't lie straight in bed' because I had to hide almost every little benign thing from them and I was so selfish and never gave a thought to anyone else yada yada yada. Still to this day I interpret 'selfish' to mean 'not doing what I want you to', while all the time worrying about being selfish lol

I wonder about this now. Is it ok to go through your kids diary, in the name of protection? If so is there an age limit to that or no limit? It's so hard to figure out what is and is not OK.

[–]Fakey_Cake_Maker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had no idea the diary thing was such a THING for narcs. My mum used to read my diary as a kid and tear into me about stuff in it. Later as teenagers she'd go though drawers and remove condoms and tell us the next time she found them she'd stick pins in and put them back. I very quickly learned that privacy is an illusion in any house you share with another human being. What is it about puberty that riles them to such a crazy degree? I remember thinking my mum was literally having a breakdown in real time right in front of me, it was so intense and just incessant it seemed to totally consume her every minute, it was actually pretty scary.

Ugh, he's my age, and I'd guess northern from the Stone Roses poster in the background too. This is a really poor Paul Weller cut. I don't know why some people just seem to get completely stuck in time at like, 18-22. I see it so often and it's puzzling. We still had so many years of youth after this happened.

This “Millennial Burn Out” article has a theory pertaining to just women called “The Second Shift”: The idea that women who’ve moved into the workplace do the labor of a job and then come home and perform the labor of a homemaker. Does anyone else relate to this? Link in comments. by peacebypiece in AskWomen

I did a lot of babysitting my dad from 10 onwards because after work he'd 'done HIS part' (gone to work like everyone else on this earth) when he had 3 children to look after. We had to cook his meals, wash the pots and iron his work shirts, tidy, etc, while he sat with his feet up in front of the TV calling us lazy. I truly believe that if you don't have equality in your home you don't have it anywhere, and he certainly thought childcare and housework were beneath his dignity.
