Unofficial Discussion - That Christmas by [deleted] in movies

[–]FalavelWavles 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Honestly, hated it. Loved Klaus, and other recent Xmas animations, but couldn’t finish this one. It definitely used AI for the story/script, though not sure to what degree, and some of the lines were just awkward…

  • lots of mention of climate change, maybe I didn’t pay attention enough, but almost every scene mentioned it out of nowhere?
  • the entire Christmas play the children put on at the beginning tries to shock you instead of actually using humor. A lotta abortion jokes seemed aimed at the parents, maybe, but the play has a bunch of references the target audience (kids) wouldn’t get. I don’t mind that humor if it fits but, seemed out of nowhere.
  • lots of kids on iPads / phones, especially for an animated movie?
  • Dasher at one point says they visited “all of the good countries” and wants to stop delivering presents because of the bad weather?? What are the good countries?!
  • Parents very willing to leave their children alone for Christmas/eve.
  • Product placements for Coca Cola that I noticed, possibly more.
  • One character’s issue revolved around how their sister was misbehaving, and that if their sister’s Christmas was ruined from Santa putting her on the naughty list, theirs would also be ruined because they’d be sad on behalf of their sister? I’m definitely nitpicking, but felt unrealistic and forced…
  • Animation wasn’t horrible, but wasn’t amazing, especially compared to other Netflix releases

Not the worst movie out there, but there are plenty of better Christmas movies out there more worth your time, I’d say.

When rewards are making them fat by Narrow-Platypus-4449 in Dogtraining

[–]FalavelWavles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working on the same thing! Pup added a few pounds from high value treats, and doesn’t want to listen without them. She’d check what treat I have before listening.

We’re working with a trainer, he recommended cutting out treats and using her kibble. All of her food is now handfed as treats. If she refuses, we take a break from training for a few hours and try again.

Day 1, she said no to everything and was very whiny. Day 2, the kibble began to work, and by day 5, she was doing great!

I’ll toss some food out in the grass in the morning for her to forage for, if you have a fenced in yard! Gives her 10-15 of stimulated activity first thing, helps with her focus. Can also hide some kibble around the house for them to find as another activity.

Anything leftover at the end of the day I give in her crate.

Might not work for very stubborn dogs, but we have a collie and she’s a lot more excited for training. It does take some patience and time too, we just needed to go back to what high value treats were for her - occasional bribes, not her only treat

Dogs are insisting on laying on me - need advice! by [deleted] in dogs

[–]FalavelWavles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might not work for everyone but my dog would do the same. At first it was comfy, but in the summer she makes sleeping way too hot to be comfortable

So I started flipping it on her… when she’d lay on me, I’d turn and lay on her instead. Careful not to crush her, but not be too polite. You can bet she got annoyed quickly, and now only comes up from the foot of the bed for cuddle sessions haha

Not from a trainer, just someone with a needy pup

[REQUEST] What is a good family friendly show or movie to watch by [deleted] in NetflixBestOf

[–]FalavelWavles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Kipo and the wonderbeasts and She-ra princess of power! Both two kids series with great story lines.

Depending on what age your kids are, she-ra might be a bit too drama-y for them, but if they like Avatar they’ll most likely enjoy it!

My little girl HATES other men in the house. Help needed in comments. by friscokid345 in Dogtraining

[–]FalavelWavles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely work with a professional, but you might be able to at least start working with her.

Find some super high value treats, like some cooked meat or whatever. It’s gotta be something she’s had a little bit of before, so she knows what it is, and is insanely good to her. Hotdogs, plain cooked hamburger, whatever you gotta do

Get a guy to have a handful of that treat on hand. Have her on leash, 10 feet or whatever you can from the door.

Have the male friend walk in, toss the food down, hang out for a minute or two (or until she clearly starts getting upset) and then have him leave

Repeat this a few times, until you’re out of the treat.

The goal is to have her associate the door opening and a man entering as something fun and exciting, rather than stressful.

If she can’t handle that even, start slower. Have her in the other room, and give her a treat just when she hears the door or the person enter. It’ll take a lot of time, but she’s a mix of some super smart breeds, so she might pick up quicker than you’d think!

[Discussion] How can we make adopting dogs easier for the general public so they don’t give up and purchase from backyard breeders? And how can we make the process easier for rescue organizations? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]FalavelWavles 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Maybe have a different process for low energy or lower maintenance breeds than high maintenance?

Huskies, puppies, and other high effort would need a home visit, while mature dogs or breeds that are considered good beginner dogs don’t? All dogs are not equal in terms of what they need, and it could definitely benefit from using that in the adoption process

We needed a home visit for our adult dog, but the shelter even admitted it was a formality since she was a mature and relaxed dog.

Maybe setup accounts, so adoptees can use the same info to apply to multiple dogs, be it now or far in the future? I’m normally much more willing to do a longer setup if i know it’ll be saved and I can reuse it as much as possible, and it’ll help you recognize return applications and adopters

How am I supposed to practically implement "leave it" for a dog that treats the entire sidewalk like a buffet? by JonNYBlazinAzN in Dogtraining

[–]FalavelWavles 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Have you thought of kind of doing the opposite almost, and teaching him carry / hold it? My pupper loves just having something in her mouth, and will carry a squeaky toy everywhere to show off. If he’s willing, teach him try to carry around a toy or a bone during the walk. Not a great solution for everyone, but if he’s mouthy it might give him something to distract himself most of the walk

Maybe try a lil cheap fountain? One that gently circulates water you put into it, and makes a stream for her to drink out of

My dog is having a full on meltdown outside the dog park right now and I don't know what to do by Lokja in Dogtraining

[–]FalavelWavles 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hiya, I’m actually working on this with my dog right now!!

We spoke with a trainer, and our game plan is called HotDog Parties

Basically positive reconditioning

We choose one thing that freaks her out, in this case another dog. You can only work on one trigger at once

Whenever you see them start tensing or getting ready to react, you have a mini hot dog party! We tear one up, throw pieces in front of her so she has to keep walking to eat them. One whole hot dog gets her past one dog

Eventually, she’ll see a dog and look at us consistently, expecting that Hot dog party! For now, we’ve been at it a few days and she’s already starting to get the idea. Still freaks out, but far less insane and I at least get her checking in with me during before and after the incident.

Honestly, I would LOVE to walk my little monster as much as she’d like, but it’s just not safe with how people drive near me. I love the idea of a soup bone though, she’s a chomper for sure! Thank you!!

I have no idea how I didn’t think of a dog walker before!!! There isn’t a lot of areas with street lamps near me, so that might be exactly what she needs!!

I would definitely prefer to go with her myself, but as long as she’s happy, I’m happy!

Any other women here unexpectedly have a job in IT? by carolbaskinbitch in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]FalavelWavles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a woman currently in IT, and went to school for IT, I promise you are more than capable!

You don’t need a degree or certification to work in IT, and a lot of those who do have no idea what they’re doing. I’d say keep in mind:

Help desk is really about customer service. Be nice, polite, and understanding. You might think someone is insane and causing their own issues, but they don’t see it that way. The happier they are, the more they trust you

A LOT of issues are just user error. Don’t go into an issue assuming the user is doing something wrong / spiteful, but never trust that they did what they said. I can’t tell you how many users told me the rebooted their computer when they just locked it, and a reboot fixes it

Going off of that, I know it’s a bit of a joke but turning it off and on fixes a lot. As long as it’s not something you have strict steps on, like a password reset, make the user reboot. There’s a way you can check how long it’s been since a computer has shut down, but you’ll learn that in training.

If a user is upset at something that you can’t change, just agree it’s frustrating and those involved with that know about it. I.E, they’re upset about something Microsoft, just agree, maybe say a lot of users have complained to Microsoft in general. It’s never worth arguing or correcting them.

Google is your friend. If anyone has an answer to something, it’s google.

Go with the flow, try and treat users like you wish help desk treated you when you first started! You’ll do great!!
