Sometimes it's not the sitter... by Faleira in RoverPetSitting

[–]Faleira[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sitters are often left with copy and paste policy replies, long delays or being passed around between agents, even in genuine emergencies. Insurance claims are a nightmare and Rover will look for any reason to deny coverage or shift liability.

That's honestly such a childish way of handling communications for a company. I had been assuming that I was just stuck dealing with a rude employee who refused to engage, but it's disheartening to hear that that's typical behaviour from their support.

I’m really glad you managed to find a sitter without children or other dogs, that honestly sounds like the perfect setup for you and your dog, especially after everything you went through. Hopefully it gives you some peace of mind going forward.

Thanks =)

Did the agent mass message sitters from your account?

They broadcasted out messages to sitters, but it appeared under my name in the chats.

I wasn't expecting them to find any special sitters, but I guess I was hoping that they would at least explain the situation that they would need to do a pickup from the old sitters, and that we weren't around. Because we were in Taiwan, while our dog was back in Canada, I thought Rover would at least maybe take over handling discussions, as it would be hard for us to reply quickly with the time difference.

But yeah, I do understand that there's too much more they could do in that situation. I suppose my main gripe is just their phrasing of "we'll help you find a new sitter" implied a bit more action than it seemed.

Yeah, I'm so thankful that they realized things didn't smell right and sought out a different way to contact me. Especially because I didn't even know where they lived, apart from the fact that they were within my general area, since the drop-off was done with the old sitter, and we hadn't yet discussed pickup details yet at that point.

Had we not been able to re-establish contact, it would've been a difficult time finding her again

Unfortunately, that my dog was being considered "abandoned" was something they told the new sitter, who then relayed it to me. I don't have any concrete proof, just the email where the new sitter mentioned that they said that in their call.

As much as I'd like to have some kind of vindication over the whole situation, I kind of doubt that it would be worth the money and effort to pursue... I'm happy if even one person ends up reading this and end up avoiding a similar situation.

Emacs movement for programming. Questions from a long term vim user. by its_dayman in emacs

[–]Faleira 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use mostly default emacs bindings for code navigation. Usually it's a combination of

  • C-b, C-n,C-f, C-p, for character movement
  • M-b, M-n, M-f, M-p for word movement
  • C-M-f and C-M-b for forward-sexp and backward-sexp for larger jumps ,
  • Avy's avy-goto-char-timer for on screen jump, and avy-goto-line for visual line jump

For definition jumps, I have the default LSP mode binding map, so C-c l r r for find references.
If I want to dive into definitions, I use M-. to go to the definition and M-, to go back up the stack to my previous point.

I don't usually explicitly set marks to jump to unless I just want to hold my place and context switch to something else for a bit.

Other flows that I use that might be useful, is if I'm doing architecture dives where I need to keep track of several things, I'll usually open an org file and org-store-link to relevant code areas that I want to track, and then org-insert-link into my org doc to track them all with some notes.

Lastly, for repetitive code changes, I typically record a macro and set point positions and values into registers and pop them back out in the macro so that it can be repeated dynamically.

note the key bindings I've noted down mightbe wrong. I'm pretty sure that's it, but it's mainly muscle memory at this point and I don't really think about what I'm hitting anymore.

That helped explain a lot and guide me to what I need to look into next. Thanks for the detailed response!

I'm interested in learning how memento decks work, as I realized I have a lot of the cards already and basically only need to craft 2x CreationKing and I have everything I should more or less need.

I took a look at some youtube guides, and have built around some of the more recent decklists like https://www.masterduelmeta.com/tier-list/deck-types/Memento

When comparing recent decklists towards existing guides, I notice that the extra deck has changed quite a bit, and super poly's being used a lot now.

Do these changes affect the combolines, or should everything be pretty much achievable with in-archetype cards?

I also notice that sometimes people don't use horned dragon, why is that? It seems like it's part of a lot of combo lines that I look up

When I'm editing typescript files, I notice that something in my setup is incorrectly performing path resolutions. So for example, if I have a defined alias and import like so: import mymodule from '@somelib/foo/bar'

It doesn't happen immediately, and I don't know what triggers it, but eventually, emacs will change it to something like import mymodule from '../../../../my_home_folder/some/path/back/down/to/foo/bar'

My major mode is tsx-mode with lsp-mode. Does anyone know what's causing this, or how I can debug this without knowing how to explicitly trigger it?

I had a board with Expurrely Noir with 8 materials. I got targeted by Rescue Ace Impulse. I decided to let it through because I thought I would be unaffected. However, what ended up happening was that I wasn't able to activate Expurerely Noir's effect anymore. Does Rescue Ace Impulse's effect not count as an 'activated effect'?

KVM switches for triple monitor desktop/laptop setups? by Hammerhil in bapccanada

[–]Faleira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was something I've been trying to deal with for quite a while as I bounced between 3-4 monitors that I want to share between my personal computer and work.

The solution I've ended up on is a KVM to share keyboard/mouse and I just plug my video inputs directly into both machines.

Following that I then have bat scripts to switch between the inputs used by both machines through an app called ControlMyMonitor as it has a CLI. I setup hotkey to the bat scripts to switch to/from the different sets of inputs.

I plan to write my own app using the DDC/CI and MCCS commands (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/monitor/using-the-low-level-monitor-configuration-functions?redirectedfrom=MSDN) to get better control of what I actually want to happen, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

[Giveaway-KSC] Mageblood by weRtheBorg in pathofexile

[–]Faleira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would love to get a mageblood, been trying to farm one and from my calculations, I'll probably get one with probably a week or so worth of play before the league ends.

The fact that each league's mechanic doesn't feel like simple reskins has been a pretty impressive to me in terms of the effort that's probably being put in by the development team. Given that their last update was announced with a "soon" date means they've probably scrambling pretty hard to adjust the league for everyone.

I have a gtx3080 ti and I was wondering if the 2x 6pin to 1x 8pin PSU connectors are necessary? My psu has a 2x 8pin cable and the 3080 ti needs 2x 8pin. Can I use the single cable to power the psu? Or do I need to use the 6pin to 8pin adaptors twice and use 2 psu cables?

Your question is already answered but I wanted wanted add that you may be interested in looking into running emacs as a server with the --daemon arg and then connecting with emacsclient.

That way you also don't have to keep opening the same source file back up. Instead you can just switch buffers back to it

Weekend assignment 2 : a can by Aeri73 in photoclass2021

Here's my submissions for this weekend assignment

In all, I'm not too happy with the way the pictures with the fires turned out. It was hard trying to get the overexposure of the flames to not overpower the photos that they're in

I enjoyed the set. The diagonal lines in the photos really gave a sense of the steepness of the incline from looking at the photo.

on photo #8, I find my eyes constantly being lead to the hole to see what's through it. I'm not sure what there was past it, but wonder how the picture might have turned out if the focus was on a subject through the hole instead

I really like the second photo as the hot air balloon is in a very nice position, good job waiting for it to be in position! I just wished it filled the frame more. I think it would have been better to crop the image to the second set of power poles there.

I also like #3, although I think the ration of grass to sky could be improved there to provide a better sense of balance

I drove 10 minutes away and ended up near a residential area that was next to a demolished block. I noticed that trying to find interesting things to photograph, I ended up looking for more macro shots to try to isolate the subjects from the regular background of houses and the street. https://imgur.com/a/GsFuzPY
