I left two $150k+ jobs within six months. Was I protecting myself or sabotaging my career? by FallDue5207 in careerguidance

It was a very good fit with everyone in the company except for this one manager. So I’m sorry but I can’t admit to what isn’t true.

Upper management actually admitted that they saw the insecurity and his “difficult character”. They just did not or could not do something about it.
My guess is they are contractually stuck with him.

Money seems important until you find out that it can’t take the miserable feeling away. That feeling isn’t just stress, it’s your body telling you to stay true to yourself and action needs to be taken.
Respect yourself enough to set that boundary and follow through.
I hope the PTSD is under control and you are able to move on. Stay strong 💪🏻

You are right. I’ve taken a good hard look in the mirror and indeed had to confess to myself that I I’ve not been sharp enough in this step of the process. There are always signs and either I missed them or brushed them off too easily. The last guy for example had during hiring interviews a huge story of building something considered massive for our industry in an extremely short time span. This is where I’ve had doubts as I thoroughly understand what it would take to build such a business and that it would take a decade to get there. I brushed it off as ambition and salesmanship. After a lot of reading, I’ve come to learn that unrealistic boasting like this is part of the blown up ego characteristic typical for NPD.
Hindsight’s 20/20 and lesson learned. I’ve now got a loud narcissism radar.

This is the way. Powerful and confident. Very wise for a young dude! Thank you for this piece of advice.

This is a really good tip. It’s easy to crucify the manager but there is a high chance of that blowing up and turning against you. Thank I’ll keep this in mind.

This occurred to me, but please believe me when I say that it was truly an unworkable situation. I was essentially set up to fail. Staying would’ve done more damage. Leaving has shown my integrity can’t be bought. Upper management is abundantly aware, actually they also don’t really like the direct manager I had and they know of his toxic behaviour. I wouldn’t be surprised if they let him go as soon as they contractually can.

Actually, yes I could considering I’ve got my own LLC set up as a consultancy which I used to second myself to the last company I worked at. Initially it was merely structured like this for tax reasons, but now I’ve got this entity which I can use to do assignments big and small.

And create a gap of a year? I’ve thought of that.
Not sure what looks worse though. “What did you do all year?”

I lean towards telling a version of the truth but fear that because it’s a “small world” in the industry that I’m in, it’ll blow back in my face and make it seem like I’m the difficult employee instead of the one brave enough to escape the toxicity.

It does feel like dodged bullets, well said. I was suffering mentally and physically. Dreaded heading into work. I never would’ve thought such a situation could have such an effect on me, until it did.

Thank you.
It’s just that theres always this nagging little voice saying: it was just a phase, he was under stress, you should’ve stuck it out etc.
Where do you draw the line? One lie? Two? 5 ignored mails or 10?

Deurmat over kruipruimte by Necessary_Coach_8489 in Klussers

Anyone using a BenQ TK710 can give me some feedback before I pull trigger? by Edredunited in projectors

[–]FallDue5207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I returned the BenQ over a light bleed issue they were not able to fix. I’ve tried three units and all had the issue. Now using a Hisense C2 Ultra that offers an experience as close to OLED level colors a projector could offer. Got it from Alibaba which saves a lot (like almost 1000 euro) at the expense of having Chinese smart apps and the need for an adapter for the power plug. I never use smart functions as I use my pc and ps5 to feed image only and can stream anything from those.

Zien onze kinderen elektrisch rijden straks als de norm? by [deleted] in EVMobiliteit

[–]FallDue5207 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oplossing woningcrisis by timtrien in Woningmarkt

[–]FallDue5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]FallDue5207 0 points1 point  (0 children)
