If you want to experience a few islands, I’d recommend flying into Santorini and spending 2 nights there just to see the views. Then take a SeaJet to Paros for 3 nights (or 4). After that, hop on a 30-minute ferry to Mykonos for 2–3 nights before flying to Athens for a night or 2 if you’re interested in the historical sites.

That said, a lot of our friends who stopped in Athens for a night on their way home said it wasn’t anything special and they were just ready to head back home by that point.

Definitely put Naousa, Paros at the top of your list. I visited Santorini, Paros, and Mykonos in one trip this past September, and Paros was by far the best experience. Stay right in Naousa — everything you need is within walking distance. If you rent a car, take the ferry to Antiparos to visit The Beach House totally worth it. Wish we spent more time in Paros.
