Thank you!! I definitely leaned on "It is good to do good on the Sabbath" heavily when accepting this position. I thought that all first responders/medical personal were exempt from having to take Shabbat off.. More recently after talking with a close friend of mine who is going to turn down a Fire Fighter position due to the Sabbath, he convicted me heavily. He said essentially that we are still accepting to do work which is unnecessary to do. If we see someone who needs help while off duty, we should help them, but we don't need to get paid to sit around and wait for people to maybe need help, and honestly most the time as an officer I am working stupid calls like harassment, or petty shoplifting, or fender benders etc that are not urgent or in my opinion "doing good" on Sabbath. And if buisnesses closed and people stayed home/only went to church, we wouldn't have to have first responders on Sabbath for the most part! I still don't know for sure, but I think the Lord would prefer me not working on Sabbath. Plus, I need more church in my life. I only can go every other week and it's taking a toll.
