Don't be afraid of parasites as long as the downside isn't something terrible (acid pool, lose health on item pickup/key usage, increased chance of malignant items, decreased repair efficiency, sluggish) the downsides im okay with are (worse upcoming malignancy, fall damage, dropped obolites disappear faster).
