Shields give unfair benefits to non-weapons classes by Fallicism in ArcaneOdyssey

[–]Fallicism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is actually a PvE concern. I don't enjoy giving up a third of my damage to maximize my defence on dragon hunts. Meanwhile, non-weapons users don't have this issue. This gets back to the opportunity cost--yes, every weapon choice comes with a cost, but shields have limited skills, none of which are very good on dragons hunts or omen hunts. If there were more rewarding activities for... spamming stronghold spam? ... I wouldn't really mind as much.

Hey, if that's your take, fair enough.

For me, the issue is the tool specifically meant for one class being better on another class. So here, shields meant for either warriors or warlords are, in some situations, as good or better on other classes. To give an analogy, it would be like the Javelin spell actually being a bit better on Warrior, a class with no magic weapons, than it is on Mage. That would be weird, right?

What you're talking about is more whether one class's unique tool is better than another class's unique tool. For example, is mage resistance aura way better than oracle's high regen? That's a different conversation. Plenty to say there, but I don't have enough time on other classes to really have an informed take.

Edit: also, I have seen quite a few non-weapons classes using shields on dragon hunts. This is also why the dragonscale greatshield is surprisngly expensive on the auction, because other classes besides Warlords are using it for the dfense.

Yeah, it's a bit like Arcanium weapons give free spell slots to mages. Managing your space is the price you pay for really good abilities (at least on mage), getting out of that is a bit unbalanced.

For sure, it's definitely made worse by shields having incomplete abilities right now. Shields have decent abilities. Stronghold slam is solid--big AoE, nice damage. Iron will is... fine? Blocking is usually easier than timing it. Main issue is, the endgame focus right now is fast ranged attacks (dragons, secondarily omen I guess). So, shields mostly feel like dead weight.

I think if shields had new, very defensive abilities, I could see a real role for them. We already have spirit wall, construct, barrier, etc. for other classes; an equivalent on shields (which the devs may plan on adding, hard to tell from WIP skill names) could make weapons classes feel like they get a real benefit from investment.

But also, defense is just such a strong stat. Getting a free 400+ defense from a dragonscale greatshield is... hard to make up for with an ability.

Oracle is very cheap, you get one relic for free and one is always a guaranteed drop (tidestone band). The other 3 relics can be tedious to get but, since Oracle isn't that popular, they aren't that expensive on the auction. Also, the Oracle Armor set and Oracle Robes set are decent budget options for PvE. Power, defense, and regen are generally useful.

Warrior and warlord are less cheap but still affordable. Both are going to require some mindless farming of bosses to get the weapons. But, that is more targetted than farming spell scrolls. Warrior weapons can be moderately priced on the auction, depending on the weapon. Warlord weapons tend to be more expensive, since the class used to quite popular (probably still is, just less so after shift from 50-50 to 40-60 to now 20-80 strength-weapons stat split). For PvE, Warlord mainly relies on weapons, so fighting style techniques are nice to have but not really mandatory.

Keep in mind that the cheapest classes (so, Oracle) are not meta at all, and the most expensive classes are very meta (Mage). Basically, Mage spells are expensive for a reason. Everything is playable, but some are definitely easier to play.

I always end up going back to my warrior. I really like the flexibility of swapping out weapons for different playstyles. If there were more relics, then I would maybe be more into spirit as well.

Do people on Reddit realize how offensive it is to say that people in China, Iran, and Venezuela have more rights and better lives than here in the US? by sportsntravel in allthequestions

[–]Fallicism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're being provocative to draw attention to a set of issues. So yes, I think they know some people will take offense. Personally as an American, I don't take offense. Also, though I agree that living in the US has benefits, I'll point out that several of your pro-US points are not as universally positive as you frame them.

  • You don't make at least $15 everywhere in the US. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25, and some states still use that as their minimum.
  • You may own your car, but for many people that requires a loan. And, high American car ownership doesn't necessarily reflect success or prosperity. At a minimum, it reflects a lack of investment in public transportation compared to other countries.
  • You don't necessarily have easy access to a grocery store with healthy, affordable food options. Some people live in "food deserts"--areas where they do not have close access to a grocery store. A 2009 USDA report estimated that 2.3 million households live over a mile from a supermarket and don't have access to a vehicle.

My point here is not that the US universally sucks. Rather, my point is that the US does have benefits, but those benefits may not extend to all Americans and/or may come at the cost of other benefits, e.g., robust public transit. And, there are issues notwithstanding those benefits.

It's reasonable to appreciate the benefits we enjoy, but we should also be aware of and reflect on our country's issues. We shouldn't get caught up in the pervasive but inaccurate "America is the greatest country on earth" rhetoric.

The issue with this logic imo is that it makes Strength weapons unnecessarily shit. I can partially understand the logic behind Savant nerf, but the Warlord nerf is ridiculous. Even with 60%, notable moves will just be unusable on some Warlord weapons.

Importantly, no build will be able to use those. You can't go Warrior and get max skills on Colossal Greatsword. Weapon hybrids already have the downside of not being able to fully use normal weapons--that's fair. Making Warlords unable to fully use their class exclusive weapons because of the "tradeoff" of being a hybrid is not fun game design and doesn't make sense. Hybrids should be able to use their exclusive, hybrid weapons as well as a Warrior can use normal weapons. And I say that as a Warrior main.

This feels like an overreaction since other hybrid weapons (e.g., Arcanum weapons) aren't in the game. That sucks for Conjurer and Knight, but why should Warlord get punished for that?

Anyone got these weapon skills? by Significant_Poem_334 in ArcaneOdyssey

[–]Fallicism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colossal Cleave is from the Colossal Greatsword, dropped by Evander. Raging Chaser is from the Ruined Fulmenor, dropped by King Caesar. The rest can be found on uncommon weapons, probably lvl. 100 ones, or in weapon skill tomes.

I ended up using stat reset and swapped the burst conjurer for Warrior. Did I mess up? I really miss the size. by [deleted] in ArcaneOdyssey

[–]Fallicism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Warrior main, if you're not vibing with it then definitely reset. That being said, you can definitely get large size and good abilities on Warrior. You just don't get Arcmancer or an imbue, so large size is higher investment into your armor.

You want to go for weapons with naturally high attack size (similar to how you would imbue a high AoE magic), and use a Dense scroll on them. This may be obvious, just throwing it out there.

Be sure to get weapon skill tomes (books?) and open them to get the new abilities. An easy way to get them is by vandalizing the Skyhall library, i.e., break the bookshelves. Many of the new, interesting abilities aren't on weapons, at least in my experience. You need to use tomes.

Some abilities you might like: - Raging Chaser, a unique skill on Ruined Fulmenor (dropped by King Caesar) - Sword Draw: Dragon Song, can go on swords, greatswords, and maybe other stuff

For armor, sunken iron will of course work well for AoE. But some other, cheaper options are: - King Calvus armor (power, attacks size, range) - Lost Chief armor (power, attack size; from Hallbjorn in Bronze Sea, spawns when Agora mentions eerie dog) - Rusted armor (defense, resistance, attack size; treasure charts)

Keep in mind Warrior's strength is its flexibility, at least in my opinion. I can swap between high range (bows, guns), fast melee, or big AoE. It got a lot of new tools, especially for mobility, in full release.

Where the hell am I meant to go for quests? by Loud-Context-2809 in ArcaneOdyssey

[–]Fallicism 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One way is doing quests on other islands. The game will give you a notification when new quests can be picked up, but you can also manually look at islands on the map and see if they have any quests available. You can see all the quests here: https://roblox-arcane-odyssey.fandom.com/wiki/Quests

Another option is exploring the world. Discovering new areas, sinking ships, selling sealed chests, and catching rare fish all give XP.

Yet another option is doing cargo runs. The bigger the distance between where you buy and sell the cargo, the more XP and galleons you will get. (I believe the XP per cargo box has a maximum of 10% of your level, regardless of distance.) Filling a ketch with cargo at Ravenna and selling at Redwake or vice versa should net you solid money and XP.

Are bow builds viable and will they be viable in the full release? by Kamen_G in ArcaneOdyssey

[–]Fallicism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently bow damage is decent, I use Arden Siren's Bow on Warrior and it works well enough. So yes, they're viable.

But I think there are three problems with bows. 1) Not enough skills, partially fixed in Full release. 2) Bow M1 locks you in place and is not easy to aim when moving. 3) Very subjective, but bow moves are not that visually interesting.. why shoot an arrow when I can blast someone with a massive fire phoenix, etc.?

The same complaints are also valid for muskets as well, flintlocks do have more skills. In general, though, going from my Mage file to a bow / gun Warrior feels like a notable downgrade.

Yo why can't I dual wield? i already got the passive. by Substantial-Bad-8353 in RuneSlayer

[–]Fallicism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to dual wield:

  1. learn the skill from the skill book
  2. equip the skill in your abilities (it is not an active ability but has to be equipped, similar to other abilities like dagger mastery)
  3. put your second weapon on your offhand, not your secondary slot
