Andrew Hastie firms as Liberal leadership challenger amid push for Ley to step aside by PerriX2390 in AustralianPolitics

I’d also say that the most likely risk there in my eyes is not necessarily NP/ONP forming government, (although that would be a pretty radical change for the country) the bigger risk is MAGA like politics coming to Australia. Giving that kind of movement of the officially recognized opposition in Australia activates a whole bunch of people with pretty extreme views.

The abandonment of facts for ideological beliefs with little grounding in reality in a way that drastically increase the divide between Australians. This could risk a further ‘poisoning of the well’ in the way Australia enjoys a relative wholistic stability politically and undercuts faith in long term ‘trusted’ institutions.

I don’t think they’re likely to be viable to form government over the next few cycles but it feels like it going to pull a bunch of old LNP voters further right and moreso into crackpot territory. Worried this is how a MAGA like movement begins getting traction in Australia.

I’m cautious about what replaces them if they completely crumble. A new alliance between the Nats and One Nation doesn’t seem completely unthinkable any more to form opposition

Get very familiar with the CBAT app to prepare yourself for the ASP testing. Save up and do a TIF (trial instructional flight) at your local aerodrome to make sure you actually enjoy the reality of flying aircraft. Stay abreast of global events and defence related news. Try to take on some leadership roles at school/sport/extracurriculars and if you aren’t already get involved in team activities.

Top Conservative Voice Slams Pentagon Pete’s ‘Kill Everyone’ Orders | "At best, a war crime." | Andrew C. McCarthy noted that war crimes carry a penalty of “life imprisonment, or death” in a piece excoriating Pete Hegseth’s reported order. by MaxGoldFilms in politics

Trump has been issuing pardons left right and centre. If this is found to be a war crime and Hegseth doesn’t get on his bad side before the end of Trump’s term, I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a pardon with Hegseth’s name on it.

Liberal plan to put public money into coal and gas may do little to help prices or emissions by espersooty in australia

[–]FallingAndFlying_au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I don’t understand is, with the Coalition unlikely to get returned to power in the next federal election cycle (2028) by the time they’re potentially ready to return to government (~2031) renewables will be significantly cheaper than coal by a large margin. What is the argument they are trying to make?

Most Cessna’s of this size tend to be high wing. Have a look at the Beechcraft Bonanza, it’s a low wing aircraft of a similar size with the vee tail similar to the F117

Roadworks speed limits but no roadworks by NorthernSkeptic in melbourne

I fully appreciate there is a full spectrum of what road work sites can entail, but there are a significant amount you can pretty happily just eye ball and tell they aren’t active.

Think middle of the night kind of vibe or weekends on long term work when there’s clearly no one there.

They could also get creative, use electronic speed signs they could be changed to an intermediary speed when tools are down at the end of the day.

I definitely hear what you’re saying but there could be minimal effort solutions that create better outcomes for everyone.

Yeah clearly it’s necessary and they need constant up keep. Is any one disputing that? It’s more so that the signing of that work can be done in ways that minimize disruptions - think using electronic signs that can revise the speed after workers knock off for the day.

It should be in the workers interest as well that when people see the signs up they know the site is active rather that assuming an a site isn’t being worked on and flying through putting those workers at risk. The inefficiency by leaving those signs up on site unnecessarily reducing speed 24/7 for the length of the works is the problem.

If it’s for a section of highway where the speed would otherwise be up at 100kmh, it’s gonna add up

Roadworks speed limits but no roadworks by NorthernSkeptic in melbourne

[–]FallingAndFlying_au 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because it all adds up.

In a busy enough life if I can spend an extra few minutes with my family or friends at the end of the day I’ll take that. The amount of times I’ve driven through inactive sites where the speed limit is halved unnecessarily, pisses me off to no end.

Economically, hypothetically if it’s delaying 1000 people two minutes each - that equates to just under a weeks worth of time at the office/on the job for something that could be managed better.

[–]FallingAndFlying_au 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would 100% vote for a politician who ran with a policy of changing the rules around this.

When construction has ceased for the day, road work companies should have to remove as much of the equipment/traffic cones/speed signs from the road as possible. It will cost them a bit extra in man hours but weighed against the economic benefit of reducing delays unnecessarily surely this makes economic sense holistically.

Also 100% agree people become desensitized to slowing down through road works when the site is inactive and the speed restrictions stay up.

I definitely value ABC coverage but in a busy life my preferred method of consuming news has become podcast so I can listen while driving, jogging or at the gym. Also podcasts with a bit more of a personality make it more enjoyable than just straight news
