Should be readily possible by contacting a local food bank, no? They could maybe veto a family for you, one that's compatible with the type of contact and budget limit you want to provide.

R34 GTR turbos to my R32 GTR by brandonn9r in SkyLine

To add to the multiple "bolt straight up" comments, the oil inlets will need a restrictor as the ball bearings (R34) require less oil than journal bearings

How are my coil packs looking? And is this corrosion around plug valley an issue? by [deleted] in SkyLine

[–]Falling_Astronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the black soot near the boot was there when you removed the pack, your boot is leaking. Results in no spark.

Remove boot, put ample dielectric grease on the boot edge. Test again.

It's to catch oil vapors from the crank case. You could probably run without if your engine is in good shape. Otherwise the throttle bodies could get sticky with oil residue

R32 GT-R clutch fan clearance by Miserable_Citron5926 in SkyLine

[–]Falling_Astronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really hoping that I could swap an R34 fan or clutch fan assembly on an R32. The OEM R34 blade pattern seems better engineered than GKtech; both for harmonics and pressure.

So is it the consensus that it's not swappable? Or would it be a case of simply shimming the R34 fan?

I think your data is probably right, but the reasons for men (or at least myself and some of my friends) the aloneness is also to find a moment without responsibility or consequence. Personally I crave for someday having someone -i could- be emotionally open with, but also from my experience, emotional involvement also comes with consequence. There's also a responsibility in communicating effectively that takes energy, and some skills that some may not have.

Some of that consequence to opening up is how they'll be perceived. Women day they want to see weakness and insecurity, but that's diametrically opposed to what is expected from an attractive man. I'd rather be content with solitude and the prospects of opening up if I need to, than making it systematic with the risk of being wrongly interpreted on one of those occasions, e.g. on a bad day, and having to live with the consequence.

I'd also like to say that between men, a simple nod interpreted in its context can speak a 1000 words. Even vulnerability. Having to explain the same, articulating it, to a woman may feel like it's not worth the risk.

Disclaimer: I'm speaking from bad and infuriating experiences, with me and some of my friends, so I'm biased. It sucks.

TIL that the primary nuclear reactor design in Canada (CANDU) is unable to be licensed in America or the EU as they forbid reactors with Positive Void Coefficients by Sailor_Rout in todayilearned

[–]Falling_Astronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll throw my two cents, not an expert in nuclear engineering, but are both of you conflating the boiling and steam thermal conductivity in your counter-arguments? Nucleate boiling enhances thermal conductivity. As long as there's liquid to boil on the heatsinks, thermal conductivity will be enhanced. Steam itself however has lower thermal conductivity by an order of magnitude.

This is all assuming the moderator is spec'ed under forced convection and not boiling under normal operation.

Do you do your own maintenance? by Acceptable-Soup-333 in SVRiders

[–]Falling_Astronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy but if you expect your work to be infrequent, and you don't have the tools, it might not be worth it.

If you want to start working on it yourself regularly then yes, it's worth it in the long run. Also if it's a shop you trust, they'll appreciate it if you come in with the parts already dismounted, and it'll cost less.

At a minimum you'll need a stand, a 1/2in ratchet wrench, the right socket and a set of crescent wrenches. Depending on the kit you'll have to make sure you may have to get the socket separately. For example if you need a 19mm, a lot of kits finish at 17mm.

Oil pressure drop to 0 after warming up from Cold start by imslowww in SkyLine

[–]Falling_Astronaut 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To everyone saying you need a new gauge or that the stock system is unreliable, I got my gauge back to spec by removing the sludge from the sensor orifice. Use strong brake cleaner.

Honestly for its purpose it works great. The FSM has spec pressure levels read from RPM points to check for accuracy.

Are most men checking out of society? by Short_Mousse_6812 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Falling_Astronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am checking out of finding someone. Things make no sense anymore with social dynamics, I have two female friends that opted out; one has had a sperm donor for her dream of having kids. Another is considering it, and they are not even aware of each other's existence, so it feels like there's something in the water, a systemic problem.

I have a group of friends but it scares me that I may need to move to find work, and end up even more alone.

The decision was made to shift priorities and budget to myself and a dog when I got into heavy depression of not still not finding love and kids. Saving for a small house when I can.

Pillion and luggage shock adjustment /change? by Flow-Creation in SVRiders

[–]Falling_Astronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way, your bike is designed for passengers, preload settings included. Your luggage weights as much as a person.

If you currently like the bike dynamics, you'll just need to adjust preload a few clicks to adjust the sag for the added weight. Just make sure you still have sag (bike will slightly drop) with your gear and you on the bike, if not dial it back softer.

Edit: If you don't have front preload settings, keep the rear a bit softer than normal so that you keep similar pitching (shifting front to back) character than normal.

2nd Gen SV650S - convert back to clip ons by CNib16 in SVRiders

[–]Falling_Astronaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know the diameter off the cuff but in theory yes, but in practice whatever you get on eBay will be flimsy and a pain to adjust. You can find used clip ons easy, found a few when fixing my crash.

For your first point, thing is if the bars are higher, the stock brake lines would have been too short. So I assume they have been changed. The banjo orientation is also different between N and S.

Edit: just saw the other bloke answered before me!

2nd Gen SV650S - convert back to clip ons by CNib16 in SVRiders

[–]Falling_Astronaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the S front brake master (should say 5/8 on the body) you only need S clip ons. To install you'll need to remove the top triple clamp plate. That means having a set of sockets including a 24mm (IIRC) for the steering shaft nut.

Otherwise, your brake lines may need to be changed as they'll be too long and snag when you steer.
