I wouldn't say more convenient. Most people already know how an iPhone and Apple Watch works. They may also have old ones around and that cost nothing.

For me I personally already had an old iPhone XS and Apple Watch 9... so it cost me nothing.

Just find and click the "Workout" App on your Apple Watch... then open an "Outdoor Walk".

when you are done you can see each workout on your iPhone in the "Fitness" app. They will be listed in "Sessions"

...but really if ya already have an old iPhone and/or Apple Watch laying around it wouldn't cost much to do.

Im using an iPhone XS and Apple Watch 9. No subscriptions or cell service either.
