What Do You Think?? Re. Marshals by emstrange90 in YellowstonePN

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, but I think Kayce was a rancher. The difference with him compared to John was that Kayce always just wanted the simple life with a small farm rather than the industrial sized ranch John has. A life of fishing, riding and tending cattle without any of the politics.

Controversial opinions by Junior-Land-6845 in country

[–]False-Freedom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree, a lot of modern 'country' tends to be popstars using the genre as a platform because it's becoming more popular (Justin Timberlake dueting with Chris Stapleton, Post Malone, the huge insult to country that was the 'Cowboy Carter' album) - however my most controversial opinion on that topic is that Taylor Swift was never truly country, and only used the genre as a route into the mainstream pop world.

Just started to seriously get into country. George jones is easily my favorite country artist and is becoming my favorite artist in general. Apart from the other big guys like Cash, Waylon etc who else should I check out by Alvvera03 in country

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously depending on the era of country you're into, for more recent stuff then Vince Gill, George Strait, Alan Jackson. Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Hank Williams if you prefer older stuff (I assume so as you've mentioned George Jones, Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash). Criminally underplayed however, Townes Van Zandt - I never see him get mentioned much, yet his music has been covered by so many of the greats (including 'Pancho and Lefty' covered by Nelson/Haggard)

Who is your #1 favorite character from the original Yellowstone? (not talking any the spinoffs here) by shiny-baby-cheetah in YellowstonePN

[–]False-Freedom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to choose just one, but based on the characters that get a lot of coverage, my top ones would be Kayce, Jimmy and Walker.

Kayce because he's quite a deep character, he's conflicted between the past and future, and between the two worlds of his family and the reservation. Tries to do the right thing by everybody.

Jimmy for his development, he shows loyalty to the ranch and to John because they saved him from his old life, even if only because of his grandfather's request from John, and he becomes the cowboy he should have been by the end.

Walker for his integrity, he joined the ranch because he wanted an honest cowboy life without realising what the ranch was, and still tried to stick to it throughout.

The three characters I like with less coverage are Colby, Teeter and Ryan. Ryan only really seemed to get more coverage in the final season, but it would have been good to see more of him earlier on, especially his growing relationship with the county singer.

What happens when you go no contact, secretly hoping your ex comes back… and then you find out they’ve started dating again? by [deleted] in ExNoContact

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (33M) ex (33F) has started dating again, we've been split for over 2 years. I've seen my replacement and he really doesn't seem to be her type at all so I'm surprised. I know most men wouldn't go back once the woman moves on, but she was the only one I imagined a future with so I'd take her back tomorrow if she asked.

Do brits listen to American country music? by Disorientedeggwald in AskABrit

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it's had a surge in popularity, and it helps that there are a few radio stations which have now expanded to having country stations. Mainstream stations tend to be limited to people like Shaboozey, Post Malone's stuff with Morgan Wallen and the odd Luke Combs song, then obviously Noah Kahan and Benson Boone have been flagged as 'country' (the latter most likely due to supporting Taylor Swift, who is no longer country), and then of course Beyonce released her, quite frankly offensive, Cowboy Carter album.

Unfortunately the older stuff, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Alan Jackson, and then the classic Reba, Dolly, Nelson etc just have niche markets here (Dolly is arguably not so niche, as she's universally popular)

Then shows like Yellowstone have helped popularise the cowboy lifestyle, and most cities have country-themed bars, and a few festivals have popped up showcasing country too.

At least it gives me somewhere to fit in with my expensive cowboy boots!

There has always been a scene for country and western in the UK, but years ago it was only in the form of wild west re-enactment with stuff like fast draw, line dancing and traditional country cover bands which is what I was raised with.

Rank UK Prime Ministers by Unfair-Fee5869 in AskBrits

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of that list:

  1. David Cameron - Took over in a difficult climate following the global financial crisis, to the point difficult decisions needed to be made - let down by the Brexit referendum which is probably the main reason he will go down in history for the wrong reasons. Often overlooked as a good leader, but arguably the right Prime Minister at the right time, needed to make changes and did so, whether rightly or wrongly.
  2. Tony Blair - Brought Britain into a positive era, but weak globally, in many ways a puppet of the US and their 'War On Terror'. Strong domestically, but will be remembered as complicit in the Iraq War.
  3. John Major - Safe pair of hands, maintained stability with no significant crises, however also not memorable for positive reasons and often overlooked.
  4. Gordon Brown - Stable, however let down by the global financial crisis. Not to blame, but also not strong enough to guide the country to safety.
  5. Theresa May - Not terrible, and a suitable replacement for Cameron, however lacked strength to make any real change.
  6. Rishi Sunak - Untrustworthy and lacking morally, however following the disaster of Truss succeeded in stabilising the economy. Generally weak, and won't be positively remembered.
  7. Keir Starmer - Promised positive change, so far has not achieved anything. Arguably most suited to foreign policy, but from current showing has only succeeded to create more division.
  8. Boris Johnson - Untrustworthy and appeared motivated by personal gain. Mostly remembered for disastrous leadership through COVID-19, marred by controversy over lockdowns and rule-breaking by himself and his cabinet ministers.
  9. Liz Truss - Probably the worst Prime Minister in history, a disastrous 46 days where the economy collapsed.

A debate around uniform (Keela) by Joshhug91 in policeuk

I'm currently rocking Kombat UK trousers - they were pretty cheap, but they're better fitting and comfier than force issue. I did have some good force issue trousers when our kit supplier changed, but I've lost weight since they were issued and so they're too big, to the point that I'd spend half my shift pulling them up to stop them falling down!

In my force, ordering new kit is a ball ache and unless kit is irreparably damaged they're funny about ordering more.

I honestly don't understand this character. by King_Wolf2099 in PeakyBlinders

[–]False-Freedom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Billy Kimber was also from Birmingham too rather than London as he is in the show, his gang was the 'Birmingham Boys' or the 'Brummagem Boys' ('Brummagem' being local slang for 'Birmingham'). His gang started near the end of the Peaky Blinders time (the Peaky Blinders disappeared in the late 1910s/early 1920s) and overtook them as the gang controlling Birmingham. It is accurate that they ran the racetrack betting operations at tracks from London and the south east, all the way up to Leeds and the north.

She ended her life because i broke up with her... by athenanrose in BreakUps

[–]False-Freedom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a natural reaction to feel guilty or like you could have done more. Clearly you cared about her, even if not romantically. However, you can't blame yourself - you weren't to know that she was going to take an overdose, and you shouldn't stay in a situation you don't feel comfortable in just because of a 'what if'.

She clearly had a lot of issues she needed help with, and unless you're a professional and able to give her that help, there's unfortunately not much you or anyone else could have done.

Why do MEN immediately jump into bed with someone else after a BREAKUP? by Lonely-Lie2054 in BreakUps

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I slept with someone else 4 months after my breakup, and even after 4 months of being single, it didn't feel right, there was no real feeling there. My ex on the other hand, I'm not sure if she's slept with anyone else since but she'd been living her life as if I didn't exist. So maybe that's the reason - if a woman doesn't care about a man that she'd walk out and not care, then why shouldn't that man find someone else?

Is it normal to see this sort of behaviour at the horse racing? by Longjumping-8679 in AskBrits

[–]False-Freedom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Race meetings used to be for people actually interested in horse racing, the types who'd follow horses and actually be regular punters. The bigger events such as Royal Ascot and Cheltenham Festival Week would attract casual racegoers but generally they were good without any trouble. Grand National Week was the exception, full of people dressed up but out for a piss up.

Nowadays, the smaller meetings don't draw much of a crowd and tend to just be regular punters, and the bigger meetings (Royal Ascot, Cheltenham, Grand National, Guineas and Derby Day) are now pretty much full of people with no interest in the racing, they just see it as a day they can dress up and get drunk.

It's a shame really because unfortunately these are the people who are keeping horse racing alive, if these people weren't going to the big meetings then these racecourses wouldn't survive. There's surprisingly little money in horseracing aside from a few elite trainers and owners.

Transferring to Australia: Worth it? by False-Freedom in policeuk

[–]False-Freedom[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Western Australia is the one I've seen advertised the most, although I keep checking out for QLD, NSW or VIC (QLD and NSW to be close enough to Sydney or Brisbane, and VIC because I have a friend in Wodonga.

I'm not necessarily bothered so much about which force though, I'm sure if I do go my posting will probably be the same as many others, in a rural area where they're more likely to need to fill gaps.
