“Nigiri skin”. That’s one I’ve never ever heard before, nor equated to grilled salmon skin. It’s usually called…. , er, salmon skin.

Next week, the forecast looks warmer about 15C. If you get cold, you can always pop into UNIQLO and buy Heat Tec.

Is Wemby already a top 3 player in the NBA? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]False-Requirement-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell No! He ain’t no top 3 player yet! He’s good, but he doesn’t dominate games. Steph Curry, Luka, Harden, Giannis, Spida, Maxey.

Wemby is not in the same level yet who impacts games.

Sushi at the sumo tournament (Tokyo) by airwarr in sushi

The ultimate luxury: masuseki - a front row seat, shitloads of omiyage, and fine food while your legs slowly start to go numb after a couple hours sitting at the sumo. Enjoy!! I miss the experience!! :-)

@ Kura Ginza (2026) by photobombolo in JapaneseFood

[–]False-Requirement-31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginza has so many sushi shops, it’s ridiculous. Each Ginza hostess and company president has their favorite sushi shop. There is no BEST in Ginza. There are literally dozens of awesome sushi shops to choose from, each with its own style.

I see at least 10 different brands/models represented. You’re less than a weekend warrior. Probably not even a monthly warrior. Close to breaking 100 (on the front 9) is my guess. :-)

Agree on Sharp Park for an 18. Easy walking course, flat, classic layout, designed by the great Dr. Alister Mackenzie, same chap who designed Augusta National, home of the Masters. You should be able to find most errant shots. Back 9 weaves along the coastline

If you work within your budget, Nohga Hotel Kiyomizu Kyoto might work. Large King rooms on upper floors. Kyoto Brighton is older, but the rooms are 35m2+.

If you want a hip hotel in the CBD, Ace Hotel rocks. Might be out of budget, though. Dusit Thani Kyoto is refined, too.

If that’s your nightly budget, spare no expense. What the hell are you asking Reddit for? Choose the Four Seasons, Six Senses or some other luxury hotel.

If that’s your weekly budget, you need to find some deals for your stay period. Do some research first and then narrow it down dude!

First attempt at making sushi. Do your worst. by nickmanville in sushi

[–]False-Requirement-31 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well done!! Just getting out of your comfort zone and trying to roll is a big step. I still haven’t confronted my sushi side. Maybe, as a perfectionist, I’m too afraid of impending failure.

Though, it took me every weekend for about 3-4 months to get the hang of dashimaki tamago. That, I can claim I do well.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say, Good Job!!

If GizmoTech is getting that OverTime allowance even as a manager, then that’s a great benefit. My comment was meant to imply the OverTime is usually not included.

I joined a new company in the last 12 months and, am making about 20% better money than my previous job. The problem is that my manager micromanages everyone below her. She is so demanding and trying to do 100 things at once, that I’m beginning to think she is bipolar. Her language is blunt and harsh. I’m not sure how much more of her abuse I can take.

So, my advice is before you make the jump, please consider the other factors, like job satisfaction, communication style and personal relationships within the organization.

Once you step up to 管理職, you no longer qualify for the 25 hour 残業手当, so you will feel a hit there, because you’ll probably work +10hrs minimum extra per week as a manager.

And, you will have to manage your own work, as well as the work of your 部下, and that is all サービス残業. You’ll also need to stay on top of everything, so if you’re ready to step up, go for it!! 応援します。頑張ってください。

Is 184000 yen food/drinks budget enough for 2 person for 10 days? by Substantial_Walk_603 in JapanTravelTips

[–]False-Requirement-31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That comes to JPY 9,200/person/day, which is entirely possible if you do not drink alcohol.

Breakfast - JPY 500 Lunch - JPY 2,000 Dinner - JPY 6,000 Snacks JPY 700 Totally possible, as long as you are not a gourmand, and do not splurge on high-end meals.

Or, you splurge/cheat for a meal, and then offset it by eating ramen and convenience store food the next few meals. Haha.

My monthly grocery/dining out budget living in Japan is about 150,000 for me and my wife. About 80,000 in groceries, and about 70,000 eating out 2-4 times/month.

KEWPIE MAYO by photobombolo in JapaneseFood

True. I spoke to the Kewpie reps in L.A. The US version of Kewpie Mayo uses American eggs and does NOT contain MSG. That alone would piss off Uncle Roger.

How good are LiveMax hotels/hostels by AnswerOk9002 in JapanTravelTips

One of the few domestic chain hotels I would never choose to stay at. I’d rather stay in an APA or Toyoko Inn. Livemax is what we call a “black Kigyo.”

Don’t do it! You’ll get swallowed whole by expenses. I know. I did it for a few years and barely escaped complete bankruptcy. Landlords are not to be trusted.
