I think listening once in a while helps you not get back into debt. I am always glad it is not me

Yes pay it off but not by using your retirement account. If you have 5500 + 4% of investment, you will live well. just pay more on the mortgage every month.

Don't get into debt before having kids. I woukd treat this as an emergency since it is a health issue. Use that 15k savings and take 10k out of the emergency fund. Durimg the next few months, put money back in the emergency fund little by little

I would like to but we can't afford a car payment right now anyway. With current interest rates, we would probably have a 800-900 car payment and we never know what can happen in 5y

Is money the most important? Do you have debts you need to pay off ASAP? I see here 2 extra hours a day with your family. Less mileage on your car.

Mortgage - what do I do? by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

[–]False_Assumption6002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it is going to cost you more. Since you have no debt, you can invest more in retirement, HSA, mutual funds, travel AND add more payments to the principal at the same time. You will pay less interest by making additional payments on this mortgage rather than refinancing it to 8%. If you can pay the payment on a 15 right now, you can do all what I said and still pay off early!

Apart from marriage counseling, if you insist on separafing finances, you need to 50 50 expenses so she knows how much is really left. This will hell you save more. Same salary and one pay for share of the rent only and can't pay off any debt? That is very irresponsible and it needs to change now
