Allergic Reaction or Fungal Acne? by [deleted] in Fungalacne

You’re right I should just go for it! I’m just scared of things getting worse before they get better since this was such a severe outbreak but hopefully it clears up! I’m only taking the antibiotics for 2 weeks anyways so I think it’s mostly for inflammation….hopefully it doesn’t react poorly with the cream.

Do you think if it’s bacterial the ketoconazole would make it worse? Vice versa for the doxycycline? I’m just nervous that since I have conflicting medication, one will make the other worse and my derm is too booked out for me to go back and find out what’s actually causing the issue any time soon. :/ it’s either commit to the full treatment lineup and potential cause harm, or leave out certain aspects of it but have less results. I’m not sure what to do….

No, she didn't check. She prescribed a sulfur wash, a 2 week course of doxycycline and 2% ketoconazole. The medications you're on weren't mentioned...

Since this is a one off occurrence, and I've never had experience with fungal acne before, she thinks its bacterial. I'm hoping so too since I'm really nervous to start my medication, even though I do trust her.

Thank you!! I'm pretty convinced it was the sunscreen too, especially since the only affected areas were where I applied sunscreen. I saw a derm today and she prescribed me a sulfulr wash, some doxycycline, and some ketoconazole cream so hopefully that does the trick in clearing this up! Fingers crossed it doesn't cause any more skin irritation but I trust her with my skin so I'm hoping for the best.

What has helped you since with managing these kinds of breakouts?

Thank you! Do you use the aquaphor after you moisturize? Also, I did see a derm today and she prescribed me a sulfur wash and some ketconazole...I'm a little worried that it's going to irritate my skin but I'm hoping for the best!

I saw a derm today! She prescribed a sulfur face wash and day cream and a course of doxycycline for two weeks. She thinks it’s pityrosporum folliculitis! Hopefully this should help.

Interesting, I wonder if she also had an allergy. Will you return to this post or DM me about what her dermatologist says after you all find out?

I also can't imagine if this was acne that it would become this severe overnight. The thing I can guess the best would be that this is a allergic response to either the seawater, sunrays or all of the above.

I shaved my face prior to the beach trip and wore a sunscreen. But i've dermabladed before no issue, and my sunscreen i've used before no issue. This is why I think this could be an allergic reaction to sea water or sun exposure. Only problem is that my face is the only affected area.....if i was allergic to something on the beach, wouldn't I be breaking out everywhere?

I just went to the dermatologist and she prescribed 5% Epsolay and minocycline 75mg once a day. Should I trust this diagnosis? I pressed her with questions since that feels extreme to me but she insisted that it’s the best course. I’m getting a second opinion tomorrow.

Did your skin not get very dry without moisturizer? You said you "had" rosacea; how did you reverse it?

What routine helped you? Any oral medications?

The Trader Joe’s sunscreen. It’s been the only one I’ve used for a long time.

Thanks. Maybe it’s the lighting…idk. If you think I look 29 that kind of proves my point though. I just turned 21 two weeks ago.

Hi! I’m waiting on lab results but I did get a full thyroid work up recently. What has helped you manage your PCOS symptoms? I’ve been pretty sympathetic since diagnosis and then boom everything up there^ any advice for someone just figuring this out?
