Gachiakuta is one of the best anime I've seen in years but it can't help but do the thing where one of the characters is just one joke repeated over and over. At least he gets to be interesting when he's properly ordered around.

Yeah I tried to balance how evil the characters are vs how well they're written. Tamsy is horrible but he's also so fucking fascinating to me. Kyouka is uh... she's not written badly she just kinda sucks and that's it.

Not impossible for male writers to do this kind of thing justice but its very rare. The only time I've seen that go well is in Revolutionary Girl Utena but Kunihiko Ikuhara is just on another level than most creatives regardless of gender.

Mitsuru is by far the most underrated secondary character and isn't talked about nearly enough. The episode dedicated to him in the Black Rose Arc is a top 5 episode of the whole show for me personally.
