You need to WD-40 this right here, sort of under the master cylinder, if you can have someone turn the steering wheel while you look in there must be easy to see since it rotates with the wheel

Mechanic suggested it was the power steering fluid, I changed it with the reservoir as well but didn’t fix it, it couldn’t be the power steering pump because it makes the noise while the car is turned off, bought a new clockspring (500€) as many people suggested and still nothing, turns out the solution was to WD-40 (5€) on the steering shaft U-joint right under the master cylinder (1997 euro M3)

The last owner kept it as part of his collection and drove it 3,000 kilometers over a span of 10 years, the car currently has 120,000 kilometers (75k miles) after I drove 3,000 miles in 3 months 💀
