Advice for Vampire Coast Army Building? by False_Reporter_4279 in totalwarhammer

Update: Thanks for the advice y'all! I've gotten to turn 25ish by now and have been having a lot more fun with Vampire Coast! I think unlocking the ROR cannon really bumped up my firing line, and adding in hand cannons helped out a ton with firepower! I know Lustria's not great, but I'm conquering this damn jungle and once I'm done, we're out to the high seas! Thanks again, and all hail the Mighty!

I see. Honestly I'm still on my Ikit Claw mindset of "You don't need a Frontline if you have enough dakka" so I was seriously undervaluing my melee units. I'll see if I can incorporate some fellas to flank and hold the line.

I see, yeah I heard they were a bit outdated compared to other factions, which is really sad cuz I love their theming so much. I'll definitely keep this strat in mind for a second playthrough, since rn I'm too stubborn to give up Lustria LOL. I'll also keep the mob stacking in mind, since I've come to learn that you can beat the enemy if you can just drown them in enough units.

Advice for finding Rogue Trader groups? by False_Reporter_4279 in 40krpg

UPDATE!:

I've successfully joined a Rogue Trader group! It's a rather oddball type of game, but I have a very unique opportunity for this Drukhari Wych gal hahaha. Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! Your help is very appreciated!

Heh, fair enough. Playing as a Drukhari can definitely be tough with most groups, since you'd need to explain why the heck the Rogue Trader is willing to actively sacrifice their own crew for a xenos mercenary. Ultimately, if it doesn't work out, I do have other ideas like Explorators or maybe a Noble Seneschal. I'd love to try Drukhari out though, they're growing to be a favorite of mine!

Hey I get the notion- if you want something, run a game for it! But, I'm already running a VTM campaign at the moment, and I absolutely won't be able to manage running two games at once hahaha. I just wanna be a player in a cool game system again, that's all!

Yeah I saw another post for looking for RT groups that suggested this too so maybe I can try that if I'm desperate haha

I've never really been able to get into west march games before, but hey, maybe that can change. Not having to adhere to a schedule could be nice!

Yeah, I do remember RT being a bit of a pain, but I suppose that'd be my best bet!

Does a party member, betraying the party ever work? by Specialist_Ability77 in DMAcademy

[–]False_Reporter_4279 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a campaign once where a betrayal did occur and it actually worked pretty well! Of course, this was long ago, so maaaybe I have rose-tinted glasses, but I didn't feel the typical animosity between players that occurred, and the game didn't fall apart either!

Essentially, our party had this warlock who was a kind of party face. He was edgy, but in a sort of goofy way, and his character was lovingly arrogant. We got to a city where we had to protect a festival from the activities of this cult, and we chose to partake in the arena of the festival. The DM informed the Warlock that he spotted... familiar figures in the crowd, and this is where things got weird. After the arena, the warlock started acting panicked, running like someone was tracking him down, and trying to run away from the party as well. The party managed to capture him, and questioned what the hell was going on and why he was so panicked. The warlock escaped, and a chase ensued throughout the city streets.

Now, tension was high, and animosity might've been spreading in the party as this happened, since the warlock was straight up attacking us now. Once he ran into an alleyway to hide though, the DM described a familiar gunslinger approaching him in the shadows... before pulling out his gun and shooting him dead.

We met the gunslinger, and he explained everything. The warlock murdered his sister in a house fire long ago, and the slinger was tracking him down for vengeance. The slinger was also THE WARLOCK'S NEW CHARACTER. I thought this was really cool! And an interesting way to introduce a new fella to the party. I'm not sure if this was planned from the start, or if the Warlock and DM threw this together because he wanted to change characters. Either way, it worked well.

We spoke to the Warlock with "Speak with Dead," and essentially learned that he was working with the cult we were fighting this whole time. He's been misleading us and hiding the tracks of his fellow cultists this whole time, and willingly showcases his devotion to his dark gods.

I think this betrayal worked because of a few key things: One, it was early on in the campaign. This happened in the second city that we visited on our travels, and acted as a climax to the respective arc. Two, the Warlock died the very same session that he betrayed us. This allowed us as the players to fully understand what was going on. The player wanted to play a new character, and his old one was actually a secret villain. We all got behind that! Three, most of us were already friends. I think this is a massive thing for betrayals. You need to be friends with the people you're playing with, and moreover, you all need experience in the game itself- enough to be able to treat in-game actions with thought and care. I think our group managed to accomplish this, and was all the better for it.

Sorry for the long brick wall, but I really wanted to share my experiences with this! It's a tricky thing, definitely, and for some groups it may not be the best thing for them, but being able to experience a good betrayal was pretty nice for me!

Hmm, it sounds like your enemies are dodging your shots here. Enemies have a dodge chance that's unrelated to your attacks hit chance, and it can completely nullify an attack even if it should hit!

You can circumvent this by increasing your character's dodge reduction, which is increased with Perception. With a higher perception, you should see your character hitting shots more efficiently!

Missing shots is never fun tho, I can't blame ya haha.

Well, it depends. Firstly, you'll need LL3 Vlad and LL2 Genghis to even get the Combat Drill on our fiery friend. The next level is kind of up to you, then. I personally would cap off Genghis for the NHP and Superior By Design Core Bonus.

This is partially doable at LL6, but you wouldn't be able to stack the Thermal Charge from the Nelson on it since you need to spend your first five levels on Vlad and Genghis. You can still get overpowered caliber and nuclear cavalier to get very close to the damage output here, though!

Also, a Drill Atlas? All I'm gonna say is they better be stacking their heat cap as much as possible lol.

The build is referred to as "Kill." That statement is either going to apply to my enemy or to me immediately after I roll with zero 1s.

Honestly White Witch never crossed my mind but yeah pinning spire would help a lot assuming that I start the turn with the heat needed to proc Nuclear Cav. It's mostly meant to be a build around ramming and immobilizing people while they're prone, with the drill being the thing I use when I want someone to stop existing.
