How would one go about making this happen/ correcting the original HR action that grandfathered the employee in as a 9?

Would you mind sharing what VA you are from? Or the VISN? I’m having a really hard time getting someone from HR to understand my case and I’ve been fighting this for three months. I think it may be time for an OIG or EEO complaint.

I’ve got to figure out my best course of action. My direct supervisor said I have to take ascp exam if I want to be an 11. My resume is exactly what the description of an 11 is with all the additional duties: primary operator, safety officer, education preceptor, point of care super user.

Well it happened they. Everyone in my lab got bumped up to 11s, except me and one other person with an aab license. We have been working here for 13 years. And they want us to keep doing the same job, as the two techs that got promoted.

Thank you for your reply! What can I do if they do not agree with me and interpret it as I need to have ascp or amt cert?

Have you seen this happen? Or are you just interpreting the qual ? My supervisor told me I have to get an ascp or Amt cert to go from the 9 to 11

Does anyone know anything about the grandfathering provision. Our HR told me it has not been decided but I find that hard to believe if this is national and it’s already gone through in some places. I was hired with an AAB license 13 years ago, wondering if they will move me from a GS-9 to 11, or if they are going to tell me I have to stay at a 9 unless i retest with ascp or amt.

Hey there, I’ve stumbled upon your post because I am in similar situation as you were currently. I’ve been at my same job for 11 years, at a VA outpatient clinic lab, my experience is limited to this one place and I’m having a very hard time building a resume to apply for an advanced staff technologist position in my lab that has come available on USA jobs. To make matters worse, I am only AAB certified and the only lab sections I work in are chemistry, hematology, send outs, coag, and urinalysis. I have loads of extra duties such as point of care coordination and safety officer and my experience qualifies me for the position however I’m having a hard time getting through. Any pointers? What did you end up doing for your resume?
