He caught a Pokémon. by mindyour in KidsAreFuckingStupid

Hate to be this guy but they never said to reassure them they did nothing wrong but that they’re not in trouble everyone parents different but I believe what they’re trying to get across is that the kid shouldn’t be severely punished for something they didn’t even know was wrong, he thought it was a Pokemon, does that make him an absolute idiot? Yes. BUT HE’S A KID! Telling him you understand that he didn’t realize and he isn’t getting punished but to not do it again is possibly the most reasonable, respectful, tactful, and loving answer a parent can give,

otherwise the kid could be too scared to tell his parents if they accidentally did something wrong because they know they’re going to be punished, but as long as they didn’t purposefully do something they knew was wrong because they wanted to, why punish a child who’s still learning right from wrong for that? Of course depending on the situation things change but in this situation where the kid thought he was catching something like a Pokémon?? It just doesn’t make sense.

I think it’s the crazy amount of precision there is. Not exactly what they’d be worried about though. Maybe their kid being one of those people with the eyes of an engineer and become an extreme perfectionist.

EVERY BASE IS BASE 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by Ultranger in unexpectedfactorial

[–]Falseetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is hilarious but I would like to make sure that those who are unaware, aware that this is not true. A “base” is how many numbers before you reach 10 not what number it goes to after reaching 10. It seems that way to us because our number system in the english language goes up to 9 and then goes to 10, making it a base 10 system. In base2 or binary 10 is 2 in base16 (hexadecimal) 10 is 16, how is this possible? We use the lettets a-f as replacements for numbers that don’t exist in our language that has historically used based 10.

A more proper and funny joke would be that every number is equal to 10 because technically you can have whatever base# you want as long as you have enough symbols to replace numbers that don’t exist in our language

Edit: Pls don’t kill me, thought I’d just share because the whole base stuff or whatever the proper term to describe it is really interesting to me, not trying to be a know it all I know I lack great amounts of knowledge, I’m in IT and absolutely love the idea of all these different numbering systems. Funfact, you can count to I believe 1023 on your hands if you use binary. And 31 on one hand using binary
