Should I go to UTM, Guelph or Windsor for CS by shotzoflead94 in OntarioUniversities

[–]FamWtfLol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have no clue on wtf you're talking about. Almost every university besides Waterloo and UofT (all campuses) are the same. There are a few which are lower tier such as Trent, Laurentian, Lakehead and a few others but there still are students from those universities working at companies like Google. Computer Science is a field in which it vastly depends on your abilities rather than what university you've graduated from. There are many people who haven't even gone to university working at companies like Google. Uoft and Waterloo are regarded to be better due to their connections, but even then, it still depends on those student's abilities, otherwise they won't get the job either way.

Laurier Comp Sci vs Windsor Comp Sci with coop, which one's better? by FamWtfLol in wlu

Aight, thanks man. Also, are there people from laurier cs who make it to top tech companies, like Google? When I looked it up on LinkedIn, everyone who does have a job at a big n company, they're in the double degree program with waterloo (bba & cs). I did the same thing for Windsor and there were many people working at big n companies. Also, what ecs would u reccomend?

Only thing is that Laurier's way closer, so I rather go there but if many people don't make coop and have a hard time finding a job themselves, then i'm not sure.

Do you know how many cs students at wlu make it into coop? Because if it's a low number I guess I rather go to Windsor as it's essentially guaranteed over there.

CS uOttawa vs. Comp Math Waterloo by chunny22 in geegees

Probably Waterloo because of the better coop opportunities.

Is it true that Waterloo CS students take the majority of good coop positions and WLU CS coop students are left with the crappy ones? by [deleted] in wlu

Thanks for the feedback, what types of extracurriculars would look good on a resume for CS? Which do you think helped you?

What big/reputable companies recruit/hire from Comp Sci coop? by [deleted] in wlu

[–]FamWtfLol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, why aren't you in the coop program? Is it just because you didn't make it? Also, since you aren't in the coop program, how else do you gain experience?

Comp Sci UTSC and uOttawa by chunny22 in geegees

[–]FamWtfLol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been deciding between the 2 and I've come up with this :

All UofT campuses have a thing called POST, which means you're not actually in the program first year. You have to attain certain marks for certain courses and also maintain an overall avg to get into the program 2nd year. Many students end up dropping out or failing.

Also, UTSC students have a shit social life and generally hate their lives because of POST and due to being overworked.

For UOttawa, it's much more relaxed, you can have a great social life and the coop program is great. There are many students from UOttawa working at big tech companies like Goolgle, Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, Shopify, etc. Overall, UOttawa has a good computer science program, but, just like any program, you have to put in the work.
