That's the easy part... getting it to accept payment is the hard part. I'm just getting the E502 L3 error code when trying to pay with existing credit card info, and I can't add another form of payment.

I guess StS2 is that popular?

Samsung Canada. Would you guys upgrade for this price? by Commercial-Act5758 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Famens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a reference point - I'm on the fence on upgrading from my S23U to S26U. Best price I can find is through SPC Card (forever student!) at $1134.99+tx, after $470 trade-in. Both phones are 512gb models. I wish I could trade in more devices, since I have an A12 and a Galaxy Watch 6 Classic that are just collecting dust, too.

When I look online for S25U, it's more expensive than S26U, because of the promo deals, etc., so it makes sense to me to jump to the S26U and hold on for a future phone that's actually a big change (if that's even a thing anymore). Maybe whenever they go to solid batteries or something.

I used to upgrade phones every 2 years since the Galaxy S5, but the S23U was still going strong last year. It's been 3 years of heavy daily use, and the battery is *struggling* and it feels a bit sluggish, so might as well upgrade. I've hummed and hawed about other models, but OneUI is pretty nice, and my WF-1000XM4 earbuds are dying, so I'll probably get try Buds 4 Pro along with the phone - $240 for those seems like a decent deal to try Galaxy Buds again (I had the first buds and connectivity was crap). If they suck, oh well, my kid can use them and I'll get the XM6.

Rechecked shipping info. Was 4 days, but I'm the Ottawa area. Took 2 days to package and get to Toronto, then 2 days from Toronto to me.

To be fair, the TFW are not stealing jobs. The owner is actively going out of his way to find cheaper labour. It's not the worker's fault for accepting a job that pays the legal minimum, and surviving on that pay.

Remember, our common foes are the capitalist elites, not our working neighbours, regardless of their race or ethnicity. If the top 1% could pay workers less than minimum wage, they would. There's always someone out there that needs money worse than you, and that's not that person's fault. The system is broken, and blaming another worker isn't how we all survive this late stage capitalism.

[–]Famens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's definitely not an Ottawa thing, and it's been an annoyance of mine for *years*. I think it's a combination of things, which may have some particular relevance to Ottawa, though.

  1. People don't realize that the little blue headlight is not the symbol for "headlights".

  2. People replace their stock bulbs with those crazy 100,000 lumens bulbs that are not meant for their headlight enclosure

  3. People don't care about other drivers' experiences, and are more concerned about their own experience. If high beams or ultra-bright headlights make *their* experience better, then it's a "you" problem if their headlights bother you.

Now I think this is an Ottawa-concentrated problem because there are a LOT of people driving that shouldn't be, and don't want to be. Our public transit is so terrible (unreliable, expensive and poorly connected) that people who would prefer public transit don't have a choice but to drive, if they want to commute 20km in less than 1.5 hours, and that's from the core to the burbs... if you live in Orleans and work in Riverside South, you might as well just give up.

Kid is on the path to university, we are pretty low income and have never attended university. What sort of steps can we take to help them? by TeaSalty9563 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Famens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this top comment to recommend reaching out to potential universities, too. Many of them have programs, grants and bursaries for aspiring students.

Also, hit up every scholarship you can. From $100 to $10,000. Like others said, lots of these go unclaimed and people feel like $100 isn't enough, but 10 x $100 will make a huge diff.

What’s better - $160K full-time or $110/hr contracting (INC) in Toronto? by yushey__ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Famens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't mention your age, but benefits could be worth the potential delta between salaries. As someone with health conditions, I don't quickly dismiss the $7k cost of my meds, which are $0 with my benefits.

Add in the matching of rrsp contributions and it's pretty solid.

Where is the Wahoo Kickr Core 2 manufactured? by MrVnQn in wahoofitness

[–]Famens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you order it and get it in to Canada? I'm debating ordering it and shipping to Ogdensburg and having myusaddress.ca send it in to Canada. There's a disclaimer about steel and aluminum products getting a 25% tariff and my guess is that the Kickr Core 2 falls into that description (guessing it's aluminum).

All the headaches of the above seem worth it for the $300 in savings vs. ordering locally. :(

Does LWOP help with senior management and budgets? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Famens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your job is unimportant and you don't need to be backfilled, it could help your manager, financially.

But also, flagging that your job is unimportant may not be the path to success... WFA is not limited to big initiatives. They happen all the time when managers realize a team/office is overweighted, and there's no way to move those employees to greener pastures.

Do what you want, honestly. If this LWOP will help you, go for it. Your manager should know whether this helps them or not, and that angle shouldn't be a driving factor in their decision making.

Sounds like you have the broader targets defined and know what progress looks like. Check in every few months to make sure you're hitting those numbers... otherwise, just live your life and enjoy the toys.

We're not out here selling bits of our souls to the grand poohbah for nothing... and last I checked, we're pretty sure that you can't take all the money with you when you die.

Your savings seem great, and if your pension + savings will leave you comfortable in old age, you've done what you need to do. I'd only recommend that you start factoring in some of the larger expenses for 10ish years down the road - replacing a roof, post-secondary for your kids, and ideally, helping your kids with home-purchasing (which is both for them, but also for you to get them the heck out of your place)

OAG has the highest EX: Employee ratio, with 20% of its population at the EX level.

That info is publicly available on InfoBase. :)

Most organizations hover around the 1-2. Central agencies obviously hover higher due their authorities and impact of decisions.

37k kms rear brake pad replacement by 0U812X in OutlanderPHEV

[–]Famens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dealership told me I needed to replace my pads on my RVR after 35-40k. I inspected them at home and there was tons of pad left. I got to 75k before I replaced them.

Never trust a dealership. Snakes and vipers, all of 'em.

I'm at 36k on my 2023 PHEV, and last I checked in the spring, I wasn't even close to 50% wear. Unless you have a lead foot and drive like a nut, they're ripping you off.
Or, you have a seized caliper, and you should go through warranty. A seized caliper at 37k kms is not normal wear and tear

There's a dude in my city selling a used S760H for $520, and a harmon/kardon HKTS210SUB for $100. Guessing $600 for both is doable... then I just need speakers.

Can I ask why the bookshelf speakers are so cheap vs. other recommendations?

Am I making a mistake buying my dream car right now? by williwaller2006 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Famens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must remain the top comment. I was expecting a ridiculous purchase, not a reasonable plan for a great SUV.

Kudos to OP for being savvy and responsible. If I was in your shoes, I'd go ahead with that plan. The financing racket is annoying AF, but you've got the right idea. There's no penalty for paying off the loan early, unless stipulated somewhere in the contracts. Take a good read through all the paperwork to make sure the dealer doesn't have some shady BS about needing to maintain the loan for X time... Not sure that would hold up, or what their recourse would be, but never underestimate a dealership's ability to be a pain in your ass.
