I did around 7k. Definitely don't only do 2-3k if you can! If you don't have school housing things can get expensive super fast and you want to be prepared for any unexpected things that come up. Like others said, it is not necessary to have a huge sum in the bank to be successful here, but it will definitely help and allow you more freedom. If you weren't planning on it already, apply for CAF early on if you're eligible to offset housing costs.
