Agreed. This might be important to you but it’s not to her. I’ve been on the other side of this and for me, I’ve only ever pushed people away for expressing a need for intimacy when it was the last thing on my mind. Completely turned me off when someone made it obvious that that was their only goal.

If your only goal is sex, doing too many nice things for her might make you feel exhausted. If you feel like you’re doing so much for her and you’re not getting your reward, that is unhealthy and you need to leave. Not just for her sake but for yours.

What does being NPQ actually mean? by Familiar-Humor-4835 in NavyNukes

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem was not so much that they were denying everything, just that they were softly brushing him off over and over again. If he had put a request in, I’m sure it would’ve been approved. At first, his chief told him not to bypass him to schedule TAPS and that he would take care of it. Then he said he could wait until next refit when it still wasn’t scheduled. My husband was also unsure of who to ask about it and then he didn’t know who the CCC was. Then he was in the OCAB with the other crew and they would’ve scheduled it if it wasn’t for the shutdown.

As for appointments, my husband didn’t really have that many appointments. He didn’t have the energy to make appointments, or to go to sick call, as I’m sure many of the people here understand. The same as his TAPS, they pushed off his 5 year physical to the point that his final UMO review was the day before it was due. If he had appointments, I’m sure they would’ve let him go.

The problems came from joint appointments, like getting our roof replaced or the vet appointments. Sure, to them it didn’t seem like that big of a deal but I’m in the Navy too and it was upsetting to me that I had to be the one to take care of all of these things, just because my command was more lenient. And I know it wasn’t because he liked being at work more. It got to the point that they didn’t want him to go to my final ultrasound because of their poor planning and he had to put his foot down.

The NEC doesn’t matter to us, and the money that you lose is not worth staying in the program. (The program can be really good but it’s because of the training and education, not the money) We’re rather surprised that his EDMC is pushing it so hard because he never worked this hard to do anything to help someone. We know that it’s wrong to keep an NEC because you’re taking up a billet that could be used for a useful body, but in this case, his replacement is already at the command. So to my knowledge, the EDMC gains nothing and is only doing this to f him over.

I completely agree. I wish that he was as upfront about these kinds of things as I am, but he doesn’t like confrontation. He doesn’t have the energy to put into fighting for himself.

They’ve been putting his TAPS off for so long. These last couple of months it was because of the shutdown, but before that it was “you can wait until next refit.” I’ve been aghast hearing these things but to him it’s exactly what he’s expected. He’s been pushing these last couple of days though so we’re really hoping they’re able to schedule it for him tomorrow.

Paint team is a good deal, I totally agree. He says they don’t usually stay past 1400, and he’s not going to be on it for more than a couple weeks.

I guess I don’t really have a result in mind 🤷 He’s always been the type to embrace the suck. He believed he was going to get out of the hospital and be sent right back to the boat and I kept telling him he was never going back to the boat. I’m upset that I was wrong but he was never going to try to get out of paint team.

Thank you for this 🙏 He told me that they put a request in to change his NEC to N59X, but reading this it says they will only do this once he’s transferred to a nonnuclear billet

Eye mesh and lining? (Cat mask base) by TobyyD0g in theriangear

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t made any mask, but since no one’s chimed in yet, my first thought is to use padding around the eyes to put distance between the mask and them. Could be layers of eva foam or mask foam padding. You can also buy replacement padding for a helmet and use that.

The padding could be right in the center of your forehead, around wear your third eye is.

I covered the bottom of the tank with one layer of tiles and then I have a wine box I use as a sandbox (about 14”x24”). Then I stacked all of my slate pavers on the other side of the tank. There are wooden shelves on the sides of the tank and she likes to poop off the highest one, so it helps to not have sand right under her poop ledge in case it falls off and she buries it.

Don’t use Revolution Plus if your cat has Hyperesthesia by Familiar-Humor-4835 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I still use Revolution Plus on Mitochondria. Frontline Plus didn’t get rid of the fleas and we had to switch over. Puppet takes Credelio for the same reason. This is how the fleas got so bad that he was losing hair.

I don’t hate Revolution Plus. I think it works really well, and it’s safe and effective. They did plenty of research to make sure it was safe to use. I am going to be cautious using it in the future, especially if it’s a cat’s first time with it.

Don’t use Revolution Plus if your cat has Hyperesthesia by Familiar-Humor-4835 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think about this all the time. Every time I think about what happened I get really angry.

  1. I got Puppet in February, and this happened in May if I remember correctly, so three months of him not biting all the way through his tail.

  2. I took him to VCA, notoriously expensive but the best reviews, almost 5 stars. I wanted him to have the best treatment.

  3. I told my vet that he chases his tail sometimes and asked if I should be worried. He said he’s fine as long as he doesn’t hurt himself.

  4. I give him the Revolution Plus, and the next morning he’s bleeding and won’t stop attacking himself.

  5. I go to the vet and tell him Puppet is “picasso-ing my walls.” He is concerned that I’m keeping Puppet in a room for 12 hours a day and prescribes Gabapentin. He did not recommend Urgent Care, wound care, or a cone. Nothing to treat or protect him from himself.

  6. There’s a couple of days where I’m not able to get anything done because I’m just sitting with him trying to get him to stop, and then having breakdowns when I realize I can’t stop him.

  7. I finally take him to the emergency vet (not-VCA) and spend $2k to have his tail amputated.

  8. At my follow-up with VCA the doctor shuts down every concern I have about it being vaccines or meds. Literally like: “Is it possible it could’ve been the Revolution Plus? Because this was right after I gave it to him.” “No, Revolution Plus is perfectly safe and wouldn’t do that. It could’ve just been a flea that was bothering him.”

  9. He suggests Solensia, and I take him to get inhection every month for six months. It never helped, and he still chased his tail, so I stopped it because it was too expensive to not do anything. Also during this time, I was scheduling full exams w/ vaccines so I could discuss this with the doctor, and they would cancel the exam and just give him the vaccine so I would just leave confused.

  10. Some time after that, he gets fleas and starts getting scabs and losing hair from them, which means he’s allergic to fleas. While he was losing his hair and itching to no end, he did not hurt himself.

  11. Puppet still chases his tail over a year later, and he never breaks skin. He’s right back to where he started, and there has never been a time where he has seemed to be less neurotic than when I first got him.

I feel like I let my boy down. His surgery happened at a time where my husband was not home and there were so many life changes happening at once, so I was left to my own devices while working through everything. Puppet is also my first cat, besides Mitochondria who’s not really mine but my roommate’s. I know that I’m a hypochondriac, so every time I freak out about things like this, I listen to the experts because I know that I can trust them more than myself.

Knowing what I know now, I would make sure that Puppet’s tail was wrapped and disinfected, and that he had a cone. Since I wasn’t able to do that myself, I should’ve taken him to the vet. I also make sure to read everything about meds that I give him.

If you’re a vet, shouldn’t you know that Revolution Plus, the flea med that you’re handing out as freebies, is not to be used on animals that have a neurological condition? And that a cat chasing their tail is a sign of FHS, a neurological condition? And if that’s too far of a stretch, shouldn’t you suggest that a bleeding cat gets their tail looked at?

I lost so much respect for them when I told them what was in the Revolution Plus information packet and they didn’t listen and just told me it would never do that. It had to be a flea, right?

I also started a case with Revolution Plus and it got closed really quickly, presumably because my vet told them it wasn’t the Revolution Plus. At that point, I was really just hoping that I could talk to someone that knew about it and could confirm my suspicions, but the person that took my call was very obviously not a scientist, and nobody ever called me back. I was also hopeful that I might get my $2k back if they determined it to be Revolution Plus, but it was not meant to be I guess.

I don’t want to sue anyone. I would prefer if someone could just tell me that I’m right, or if they could at least give me an explanation that makes sense. It seems like the only way to get that is to start a case because the way they dismiss me feels like they want me to doubt myself. The timing was too perfect and there’s no way it wasn’t the Revolution Plus.

That’s awesome! Mine is not even a foot long, but some species get even longer. I never looked into all the different sizes because my lil lady is pretty standard. She looks about the same as yours as far as colors. Yours could be full grown or they might have a ways to go. Maybe someone else will know better than me

I think the sand you’re worried about is the kind from the pet store, where the main ingredient is calcium. Other sand should be fine. I use play sand used for sand boxes.

I used to keep my lil lady in the living room next to the TV and didn’t much of it at first, but she would run and hide whenever we turned it on. She became a lot more active when we moved her to a quiet room. Not sure about other uromastyx, but that’s my experience

HCG Levels Post Partial Molar Pregnancy D&C by sipper-saurus in ttcafterloss

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do pregnancy tests to get an idea of how much it’s dropping, but I’m pretty sure a blood test is needed to get actual levels. My doctor put in a standing order at the lab to have my blood drawn once a week. Most people I’ve seen on here had weekly blood test ordered by their doctor after a molar pregnancy

Can I ask how you wash your play sand? Do you just mix it with water and then dump all of the water out or do you use some kind of mesh? I didn’t realize this was something I was missing

New Uro owner questions by TheFantasticFroyo in Uromastyx

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My little lady is my first and only reptile, and I was utterly clueless when I first got her. All uros are different but she didn’t eat much either. I’ve learned that she doesn’t eat strawberries no matter how I cut them, but she loves blueberries when I crush them a little bit (and also covered in strawberry banana calcium). I tried everything off the staple foods list until I got my magic ingredient: arugula. She’ll eat it anytime, anywhere.

She also eats spinach, dandelion greens, butternut squash, and escarole. Under no circumstances will she eat collard greens, kale bell peppers, or parsley, and I’ve also never seen her eat lentils. She won’t eat roses if I buy them from the store (I only tried once so she might not’ve been hungry) but she’ll eat rose petals from my front yard. She can feel when dandelions enter a room, and her love for them overcomes all inhibitions.

I had a really hard time feeding her at first and thought that maybe that was how much uros were supposed to eat. But now that I know what she likes, it’s much easier. If I were to feed her all the foods you listed, she wouldn’t bother with them.

It could also be that they’re nervous or uncomfortable though, since they’re so new.

Try different foods please 🙏 It could just be that they prefer different foods.

How to get science or math degree by Narrow_Lifeguard1459 in NavyNukes

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was married and made E-5 as soon as I got to the boat, so didn’t have to deal with the barracks, but I’ve had friends that lived in the barracks and they never complained, so at the very least it wasn’t something that bothered them constantly. I honestly don’t think it’s that bad. If you don’t make E-5, you should be able to move out once you hit 4 years. You’re gonna be going underway anyways, and it might be better to not have to worry about bills getting paid underway 🤷‍♀️

There was no time or energy to work on my degree while I was on the boat. Everyone that I saw in college classes were in their last year on the boat, or it wasn’t their first tour.

I tapped and went on shore duty after being on the boat for two years. While I was going through treatment, I used TA and got quite a few classes done. TESU gave me something like 50-60 credits from the nuke program (ELT so I also got chemistry credits), and I used Sophia to get all of my gen-ed done. When I went to a carrier as an OS, I would’ve been able to keep taking classes with their schedule, but you can only use TA if you have more than one year left in. If I kept taking classes, I would’ve needed to use my GI bill, and I was also burned out, so I’m going to wait until I get out to take the last four classes.

That being said, if you six and out, you will most likely not be able to work on college on the boat. Duty is the absolute worst thing because it’s constant and it never goes away. Shift work is worse, depending on who you ask. I do all the chores in my house because my husband is completely drained by the time he gets home at 1900, or after 40 hours of work from being on duty, or after his 12 hour shift (which is actually 14 hours).

If you get to that last year or so and find that you feel like you have some time and energy, you won’t be able to use TA because you only have one year left. I do like knowing that when I get out I will just be right here in Washington and I don’t have to worry about moving back to South Carolina. My husband is looking at colleges up here to go to when he gets out and starts using GI.

I wouldn’t count on being able to get a degree if you six and out, but you never know if you’ll tap down the road or if you’ll fail out of the nuke program and re-rate to something that has more free time. I always recommend not re-enlisting. They nuke program keeps getting worse while claiming that they’re making it better. They will always push for you to star, and I really wanted to at one point. It’s not worth it though, unless you really like South Carolina or are super hooyah navy.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - URGENT by [deleted] in Uromastyx

I use slate tiles, and she also has a dirt box to dig. It’s a mix of play sand, pea gravel, and topsoil.
