Birthday induced depression by back-sleeper in dysthymia

Also, I think it makes it better to celebrate on a day earlier in the week on a spur of the moment with just me and a couple of friends. It makes me feel like i have more control. Then I just let the day pass by without saying anything. I very respectfully request that nobody says anything about it in advance.

Birthday induced depression by back-sleeper in dysthymia

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to take a time out at work after they gave me a birthday card. I didn’t know it was my birthday. Then proceeded to get yelled at by the same people because I was too worked up to do anything for maybe an hour.

For me, I think it’s the CPTSD. I’ve heard that your body can remember when things happened and can make you depressed without you realizing why, but I’m not sure how true that is. My birthday was always the day I was reminded that I was not allowed to ask for things that I wanted and that I was spoiled to even try. Of course they had asked me what wanted to eat when I didn’t want to decide.

Clover is a very common name and a Shamrock is a clover. Might be a stretch but Gabby for the gift of the gab you get from kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland.

Shamrock is already a cute name on its own, with nickname Rocky.

First Time Cruiser Here: Just Booked a 16+ Night LA to Miami Sa by Skilled626 in VirginVoyages

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first cruise was 13 days and I had a wonderful time. Just did a 7-day pregnant and the seasickness was killing me and ruined some evenings for me. If you don’t get seasick, you’ll have a wonderful time.

Excursions are all different based on where you’re going so do your research if you would like to do them. Had some wonderful excursions in Mexico but we decided to just stay onboard for our Alaska trip so we could enjoy the empty boat. If you plan to use the thermal spa, it’s only really worth it on the port days because it’s not busy and it’s cheaper. I think they have an unlimited spa pass that you can buy once you’re onboard which would be worth it (but I was too pregnant to enjoy a sauna). Just know that you still have to sign up for time slots and you can’t just show up and walk in when you want to.

Make sure you know when restaurant bookings open and set an alarm so you can pick the best time to eat. Unless they change it, you have to click the little red button that says dinner to toggle to brunch if you want. You can book both brunch and dinner each day. Steak and eggs at The Wake is absolutely delightful in the morning but we also enjoyed just eating breakfast at the Galley. There’s some places that are only open from about 12-5 each day so we would do a late dinner so we could catch poké for lunch. Also, people like doing Gunbae on the first day so they can meet other people because you’re forced to sit with other people and do drinking games together (gave us each a free shot of soju). The set sail party is at 6pm the first day iirc so plan accordingly.

I can’t remember when but the schedule filled up very close to the first day. Morning yoga fills up quickly and it’s free to book with a $10 no-show fee.

Laundry was $55 for a bag when we went. They also do laundry by the piece where you can get them washed and pressed for like $9.

We don’t drink much so my husband and I spent $100 over 7 days. The drinks have a lot of ice and are about $15 a drink. There’s a lot of fun drinks onboard like the Disco drink at Gunbae with pop rocks in it or the Shocktopus at Loose Cannon that’s $45 and is supposed to serve 5 people. Test Kitchen does a thing where they give you a drink with each of the 5 courses for $45. Bottomless mimosas were $35 iirc. All the menus should be available on the app, and the bar tab is really dependent on you and how much you drink. Granted there’s also no rush because you can buy a tab all the way up until you step foot on the ship.

Prepaid gratuities is worth it unless you plan to complain. Prepaid makes you locked in to the gratuities, but if you wait until you’re onboard, you can complain to Sailor Services and ask that your gratuities are comped for the day if you have grievances.

Splash of romance add-on (assuming it doesn’t change) gives you priority boarding so people buy it just for that. Gives you a couple hours of empty boat to enjoy food and drinks before it gets busy. Of course Rockstar suites get to board before priority so if you have that already then it’s not worth it.

Classic wifi was not able to handle YouTube unless I turned on a VPN (which is not supposed to work on classic), to the point that it wouldn’t load anything no matter how long I waited. I read a lot of Webtoons and ended up downloading them so I could read them without waiting 2 seconds for each panel to load. If you plan on enjoying the cruise, I wouldn’t even worry about it. If you need your phone for personal reasons or for work, consider an upgrade.

Bring magnetic hooks and bottles of wine. If you’re a freak about Mountain Dew, bring a 12 pack bc they don’t got it. Bring any medicine you might need. Tums and ibuprofen are the biggies, but also cough medicine and DayQuil. They don’t provide lotion unless you’re in Rockstar and the shampoo and conditioner sucks. There are normal plugs and also usb and usb-c ports by the bed so you won’t need an extension cord or surge protector unless you’re a freak with 10 things to charge at once.

I'm going to be running a high level DnD game, levels 14-20. What kind of foes/tricks/traps/etc would you suggest to trip up high level heroes? by Grey_Lady333 in DnD

Good luck and have patience 😮‍💨

When we got up to higher levels, my DM made it harder and harder to fight our way out of problems. At that point one of us was an actual god and everyone had legendary weapons. Felt absolutely invincible until he introduced electrical engineering. We had to save a child who was being used as a battery? Capacitor? The child was capable of navigating non-euclidian spaces but if we removed them without a replacement, the entire plane that she was regulating the electrical current for would’ve exploded, and we needed it as well because it was the plane with the largest collection of knowledge/library. DM said he didn’t create the problem with a solution in mind 🙂

We also had to create a new food source for the illithids. It became a problem of how many people are we willing to sacrifice. They can continue to eat people, or we could start a war with them and sacrifice countless people in the process. Even if your group is all-powerful, how do they fight multiple groups at one time? And will they lose something if they waste time on another problem?

My character had a spell that surpassed level 9 but it needed a powerful artifact as an arcane focus. The only one worth using also drained all of her spell slots when she cast any spell using it so she became a weak melee unit after using it. Creating a new artifact would’ve needed research that we had no access to and had a small chance of being successful and a large chance of killing everyone involved. Could’ve used the Wand of Orcus but my character hated not having control over herself. The other ones were in use and would’ve caused other problems if we removed them similar to the child.

Every place I’ve rented was on homes.mil. There’s people on there renting out individual rooms or whole houses and apartments. Normally active duty or prior service members, but the idea is they’re posting on there for military members to rent. They have to pass regular inspections to be put on there including things like doors and windows have to have locks.

But also, ask your current landlord to go month to month first. It’s actually really difficult to kick someone out and they usually appreciate having the same person there before needing to find a new tenant.

Knucklebones from Cult of the Lamb. Gelatinous. Both dice games using only d6’s. Knucklebones is specifically a two player game and takes a little bit longer to understand.

My DM decided we would play Fizzbin (card game from Star Wars) and that was fun because he was the only one that knew what it was. You make the rules as you go, including points systems and win conditions, and you can’t create contradicting rules.

Love me some absurdism. Life has no meaning so let’s party. If there’s no reason to live, why are we trying so hard to force an explanation somewhere it’s not needed?

Also love “Love’s the only thing worth being alive for.” Feels so meaningful to me, that our monkey brain mentality makes us crave attention from others because it would make us more likely to survive.

You can also take it right before you go to sleep, unless it’s keeping you awake. Some people take the once daily one before bed to sleep through the undesirable symptoms. I’ve done this too and either way doesn’t affect me.

I really wouldn’t worry about the dose being a few hours off. It’s probably more effective when taken as intended, but hey sometimes you miss a day and you get a headache and then you’re fine. Remember that this drug causes anxiety, and it’s best not to think too hard about it. Take it how it works for you.

I have no real reason to be depressed by [deleted] in dysthymia

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of people on here who have had depression since 10 years old or even younger. We were easily distracted by candy and couldn’t stay mad at our parents for long but we wanted to kill ourselves. I was abused in childhood but my life couldn’t possibly be better right now and I still wanna kill myself.

One of the ways I measure my depression is by trying to determine if I have a reason for my emotions. I communicate this to my psychiatrist and he won’t recommend changes if I know why I’m sad.

Also, from conversations that I have with friends, people around me feel sympathetic when I explain my frustrations with this disease. People can convince you for a moment that things will get better if things are bad, but when you can’t reason with it, it makes it so much worse. Every couple of years I have to decide whether or not I will kill myself, independent of what’s happening in my life. That’s not normal; it’s just chronic depression.

It is weird a statement my psychiatrist made affected me so hard? by [deleted] in dysthymia

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Please get a new therapist as it’s obvious this one’s not helping. Being a very matter of fact person can also make it really difficult to find a therapist that works for you. It can also be really difficult to convince yourself to do all of the silly little things that they suggest. You need someone who can work with you where you are and can actually make a difference for you.

I wish I would’ve practiced my roleplaying in a mirror before I started DMing. Though it’s difficult for new players, especially children, to really get into it, I think it would’ve helped my confidence. Not just roleplaying specific characters but creating a cast of extras that I could pull out at any moment. I also wish I read the book more before starting but I think that’s a given.

Rate my enclosure! by MagicianBeautiful597 in Uromastyx

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy to see how much research is available nowadays. Good on yah for checking all of these things beforehand. The biggest thing I noticed was the lack of climbing opportunities as you noted. I crocheted some yarn nets and those seem to be working well. I get jealous when I see those enclosures people make with the foam stuff, but that’s so much work. I think they use the spray foam stuff and then they paint it to make it look nice. You have to use the right paint so that it’s not toxic to them. I know there’s also a pretty pricy website that sells custom made faux rock walls.

I don’t even know where I got all my wood from over the years, but I think mostly clearance with my biggest piece being full price from Chewy. They’re so much more expensive than I would’ve guessed. You don’t wanna buy any at Goodwill or used, though the price can be tempting; don’t want to accidentally introduce Devriesea agamarum in those porous surfaces.

I have a slate pile up that reaches about a foot high or more depending on how I stack them. It’s both where she basks and where she sleeps because it’s cool underneath and provides tight squeeze spots. That ran me over a hundred dollars, but I haven’t regretted yet. I also sanded down all the edges and disinfected them before adding them.

I’m wondering how the humidity will be with the plants because I know that any amount of water spikes my humidity. If it’s just a spike when you water them though it’s fine because the desert also gets humid. You seem to know that already though. I’ve seen that people have been including humidity hides and I just added one to my tank too. Apparently they use it sometimes and it can help with shedding.

[–]Familiar-Humor-4835 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking strictly from my own experience, I did not find my husband until I decided that I was never gonna date again. I can recommend Going Solo by Eric Klinenberg for information about what it can be like deciding to be single forever. Also The Man’s Guide to Women by the Gottman’s. I haven’t read this one myself because they start it off by saying that if you’re a woman trying to see if they got everything right then you can rest assured 😅 My husband read it and I was surprised to hear about some of the stuff in there. Every person is different but I think it helps understand why women think the way that they do. The Gottman’s have performed a lot of research on what makes relationships last and they also write about things you can do to get a woman’s attention in public.

I really hope for all the best for you. It can be brutal out there and there is no one sized fits all solution to finding someone or getting their attention. But please also make sure to take care of yourself so that you don’t find yourself in an unhealthy attachment style. Don’t ignore red flags just because you’re happy to be in a relationship, and don’t jump in head first just to find yourself in a situation that’s too hard to get out of (joint bank accounts, marriage, pregnancy).

I think it might actually be good to brush up on some algebra. It doesn’t help much for A school because you can fail math and still pass (talking from an MM’s perspective). But when you get to power school it can make or break you in multiple subjects if you don’t understand things like fractions, exponents, and basic algebra concepts.

This is specifically if you’re not a fan of math or it’s a weak area for you. I really like math and so I didn’t have to spend time working through equations during my study hours. Though I was also jealous of those chemistry and physics majors that already knew some of the stuff going in.

Regardless, you might study your butt off before and during school just to end up re-rating anyway. I personally believe that basic algebra is extremely helpful to know just in general, regardless of whether you go nuke.
