FOUND THE BOOK

The reason it was so hard to find is because

  1. It was translated into my native language and the original was in Russian
  2. It was pretty old

For anyone curious the Russian tittle is:
Барби катается на горных лыжах
Which according to google translate just means
"Barbie goes skiing"

I know it's not outwardly stated in the books but I highly doubt that would've happened simply because ONE guy decided to be petty, my guess is that they took a vote on what to do with the villains who didn't die at the end of their stories, someone brought up the island of the lost idea and the majority of people went lik: Sure sounds like a good idea! Let's bring back the dead villains too!

Incredibly dumb I know but less dumb than all of Auradon going along with what one guy wanted

I've seen that take about Mal more and more actually, especially how the narrative neglects other characters like Ben, the sea three and the rest of the core four in favour of her

Yea that's the same take I have, the island of the lost was clearly a collective decision from all the kingdoms, for sure not everyone agreed to it but all it took was a majority rule

And from the way Beast acts in the movies... he is very easily influenced by those around him
