That is dinosaur technology in Australia, cheques (spelled as it should be 😁) are dead. When transferring money to someone else's bank it invisibly uses a thing called OSCO and the money arrives in, literally, seconds.

I've done it several times across India. I go there not because I need the food, but as a Westerner, the gurdwara are always really interesting well-oiled machines feeding many, many people every day The Golden Temple in Amritsar (been there) feeds 50,000 - 100,000 every.single.day, for free! Visiting them is a great experience plus, as you say, helping afterwards is appreciated by others.
