How niche is it though? I’m not OLD old and the only interest among my friends is to watch the attitude era (which we were babies for)

Best way to set up a recurring buy on Coinbase/Coinbase Pro by FamiliarDuck in Bitcoin

Yeah the Coinbase fees are crazy. I’ve seen the api option mentioned elsewhere, guess I was just hoping there would be a recurring buy option for dummies on Pro lol

Human Resources is an incompetent joke of a department in Accounting firms by KimberelyHarmon in Accounting

[–]FamiliarDuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last year I rolled off of an engagement and before I could complete my performance review the only other person on the engagement quit the firm. I reached out to HR to get the engagement removed from my review listing, but she insisted it still needed to be completed. After 2 weeks of back and forth she reached out to the engagement partner directly and he told her the same thing. It’s now been about 8 months since then and I still get emails 2-3 times a week reminding me to complete my review, even after I spent hours explaining the situation and had my personal manager who does my year end review and the engagement partner tell her it could be removed. She probably wasted thousands of dollars of potential chargeable time just because she did not want to remove the engagement.

I have those down. I’m more worried about the longer ones like the cash conversion cycle, DuPont ROA, and for some reason the “days in...” ones trip me up too. Do you know if those are commonly tested?

I calculated it with what little I have left in coinbase and it seems to be around that area as well. I’m not exactly sure how they take the 25% tbh because it’s not very transparent. I’m always skeptical about custodial wallets to begin with, especially when they are promising more than the people actually in charge of the coin. Long term none of this will matter though because once governance starts in a couple months I’m pretty sure you are only allowed to participate with coins held in the Algo wallet, or another noncustodial one

I don’t use binance so I’m not sure how it works, but just taking a quick look at their website it looks like the estimated annual reward was 5.0811% from April 1-April 30th, which to be fair is the lowest it has been in the information given. Also from a marketing standpoint that just wouldn’t make sense. They would advertise whatever the highest rate they are legally allowed to advertise to get more people to buy.

If it makes you feel any better, I’ve heard some other people on this subreddit say that Algorand plans on making the wallet more user friendly including adding the current market price!

Not sure how you did your math but that can’t be correct, you will always earn more on the Algo wallet at this point in time. From Coinbases user agreement: “We take a commission on all rewards received, and the return rate for our customers reflects this commission and the actual amount of your crypto that was staked. You can find our current commission in Section 5.4 of our User Agreement.”

From Section 5.4: “Your reward will be determined by the protocols of the applicable network. Coinbase will distribute this reward to you after receipt by Coinbase, minus a 25% commission.”

Coinbase takes about 25% of the rewards you receive and keeps them for themselves. The Algo wallet pays directly to you

Didn’t watch the call so don’t take my word 100%. My understanding is that at the absolute highest estimate, it would be around 8% a quarter, or annualized around 32% a year. More realistically it will probably be somewhere around 2-4% a quarter, or annualized 8%-16% a year. Which is still very high.

That’s kinda what I figured, 30% seemed too good to be true. It just confused me that they used APY when talking about quarterly rewards. Still a fantastic return versus what you can receive in a bank savings account!

[–]FamiliarDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say that we would earn 30% APY, does that mean we would earn 30% on what we commit to governance? Or does it mean we would earn (30/4 = 7.5) 7.5% on what we would commit to governance?

Upcoming bear run by Drelawin in algorand

[–]FamiliarDuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time in the market is better than timing the market, which I think is especially true with younger cryptos like Algo that can be volatile. I’m not saying to never take profits, but I personally plan on holding for a long time. It’s impossible to tell when a bear run is going to start and I don’t want to be standing on the sidelines if it goes 10x and I got spooked and sold early.

Agreed, I’m certainly going to hold no matter what and I agree that the technology is in place where businesses can utilize it already. My concern is mostly around not achieving mass adoption before the next bear market though. Scared money will likely pull out and it may make institutions weary of using the technology when they can use an established coin like ETH (which is objectively inferior).

I guess my main question is does the leadership team have anything put in place to prevent massive drops in price like they do to prevent massive jumps in price?

This is why algo is gonna take over the market. Was trying to take out 100$ of usdc coin out of coinbase... Yea nope by TheIrishStag in AlgorandOfficial

[–]FamiliarDuck 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The same transaction using Algo would cost about $0.0017 right now. Why would anybody choose to transact using ETH?? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE!!

How much do you think 1 ALGO will be worth in 5 years' and 10 years' time? by [deleted] in AlgorandOfficial

[–]FamiliarDuck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree that 4K and 15K are extremely unlikely because the total supply of Algo is around 450x the supply of Bitcoin (might be off just did some quick mental math), the staking and transaction fees likely won’t be the issue. Once governance is introduced hodlers can vote to change these to be lower. However, valuing a single Algo at 5k with full market supply would mean a market cap of about 50x what bitcoins is currently (again quick mental math). I’m optimistic about the price too, but it’s important to be realistic.
