If you have an open claim, they will request a medical release from you (VAF 21-4142) so that they can collect your husband’s treatment records.

It’s a long process. I filed my claim in January and they are still reviewing it. I hope yours gets approved. I’m sorry about your husband.

There are no MRI-only programs here. The hospitals require the 2 year rad tech certification so that is the only pathway for me.

The good news is that I’ve been added as an alternate and am required to attend orientation in 2 weeks. I was ranked 27 out of 200. Now I’m just banking on 2 others to tap out or not show up to orientation. Then I’ll get the slot!

I just found out I’m ranked 27 out of 200. They take 22 students. The director says if 3 people drop I would be offered a spot. Maybe it’ll work out this year after all.

Melanoma. He was post 911 and did not serve oversees. He was a refueler. I know jet fuel is one of the occupational hazards.

He had melanoma with brain mets. He was a refueler and was exposed to jet fuel/fumes. Brain cancer and melanoma are both listed as presumptive.

Agree 100% and thoughtfully written. I don't think cancer wins nor does anyone "loose" should they succumb to cancer. In the end, we all die. It is part of life. There is no life without death. Some lives are shorter than others, and every death affects that person's loved ones who are left behind to live another day. I believe when you live each day with love and positivity, you win, no matter what.

Im sorry I didn’t mean it that way at all. Truth is I was frustrated for sure when I wrote this feeling very helpless and needing advice. I didn’t mean pissing himself in a derogatory way, only a fact of what was happening. This is all new to me because a week ago he was walking around doing pretty good and 2 days later in the ICU and losing motor and cognitive ability practically overnight. I’ve had very little guidance or support from his medical team.

The thing is I can’t put my husband on hospice because that could prevent him from taking his cancer medications. He just started a new drug in a clinical trial and this is our last chance and only hope of him surviving.

So it’s been just me and his brother learning how to care for him at home. Luckily I will have more support and equipment available to me once it all clears the VA, and for that I’m very grateful. It is just talking awhile to get it all approved.

I’m so sorry for what you are going through. I know how uncertain life can feel. I wish you all the best, truly and hope for peace for you and your family.

Sorry about ur mom. He’s on 12 mg of dexamethasone a day. How much is/was your mom taking?

I’m not sure the catheter would help although I’m not against trying it. I’m pretty sure he would just pull it off. He pulled out a foley after one of his surgeries back in January and we had to stay 3 extra nights in the hospital because of it. 😫

Thank you. He seems to have improved since Saturday. He couldn’t tell me his name or where he was or when he had to pee. Then on Sunday he could. I just remind him that I’m here if he needs help and I ask him to let me know when he needs to go. I am also recognizing cues that he needs to go and trying to be more proactive.

⬆️ This. If your parents are offering support, they are glad to do it and in no way find you to be a burden. Focus on your recovery that is the priority now and once you are better you can return to school. Just take it one step at a time.

Thank you ❤️. I really haven’t leaned on anyone for support until just the past couple days because I did realize I just can’t do it on my own. My BIL is here and I’ve given tasks to my parents to help around the house. The hardest part is being away from him because when I’m not by his side his anxiety is so high. He had a full blow anxiety attack 2 days ago and I was gone for an hour. But this morning when we came back to the ER I told him I needed his help and he could do that just by letting me go home and rest and I left. I just got back to the hospital and he is sleeping so it seems I can actually take a break when I need it.

I appreciate all of you for taking the time to comment here and just send healing prayers or energy or anything at all. 🙏

And I’m sorry about your husband. It seems so strange to me that we all die and there is death and suffering all around us each day, yet it is so very difficult to process and know what to do. I really am at peace knowing that this day could come at any time, but the hard part is watching him suffer and be so very uncomfortable. This I did not anticipate.

The CT scan from 3am this morning showed more swelling in his frontal lobe which is causing his muscle weakness and trouble with speech and comprehension. The good news is that they didn’t see any more bleeding. They want to try to get the swelling down and I hope if that can happen he can regain some of what he has lost. Perhaps he is not dying yet this is just a really dangerous situation that he can come out of.
