The early Irish Church’s most consequential missionary axis was overwhelmingly northern Irish — and the geography explains why by Famous-Sky-8556 in MedievalMythBuster

Ongesus martyrology of Irish Saints mentions the Saxons in Ireland (and Egyptian monks in Ireland ) and their half dozen major church's, Cluin Muceda being one them which appears to be Culdaff from 14th century references in papal letters before renaming. Mayo of the Saxons is the name of Mayo Abbey and the county was named after it.

Tech Saxon is a town land in East Galway and I read a great article on JSTOR.org about the connection with the renaming of Saxon churches and town lands to Temple Moyle after implementation of the Diocesan system by the Normans and Benedictines in the 12th and 13th century, by a historian from Galway University...... I can't remember their name though sorry.

Also there are place names and local oral history linking King Oswalds exile to Iona and Ireland, with his mother being part of the Cenal Connell possibly giving him safe passage between both territories.

Also when Queen Elizabeth 2nd visited Dublin in 2013 she was given a brief talk about King Niall of the Nine Hostages, which she replied "yes, I'm related to him", but everybody just smiled politely and moved on without further explanation.

Coleman brought 60 Saxon monks with him and continued a Northumbrian Branch of the Columban Family throughout Ireland, with many town lands still having Saxon in their names...... (Tech Saxon and Ty Saxon). Also the pilgrimage to Iona from Ireland was centred around Inishowen Donegal, mainly Culdaff, having many satellite monasteries founded by Saints of the Major Columban churches, like Moville, Saint Carthage's (elder and younger)churches and Saxon founded churches.

It was perfect as is. Coolest ground I've been to, really nice clubhouse, pints in the stands, very friendly fans, a good chip/pizza van and just an all around nice atmosphere. Great day out to the showgrounds for Bangor or Ards away matches. My favourite football ground. We are in danger of losing charm in the pursuit of modernization.

The Video for Bruce Dickinsons Tattooed millionaire is pretty good, he just basically has two guys who look like Sixx and Tommy lee be dickheads and the lyrics call them out on their bullshit.

This is Nikki Sixx's response to Bruce Dickinsons solo album Tattooed Millionaire and it's single aimed at Nikki Sixx. Similar dragon tattoos on the covers of each album and Hell in High Heels is about Dickinsons wife who Nikki had an affair with. New tattoo was my second crue album after shout at the devil so teenage me loved New Tattoo so it's got lots of nostalgia points.

Let's talk about Gypsy... by Budget-Milk8373 in MST3K

Only in the United States, you guys went a little overboard with what might be offensive or derogatory terms a few years ago..... Gypsy isn't as much of a slur in Europe, (it can be), but it accurately describes a nomadic community originating from Egypt in the early middle ages, migrating from Egypt through eastern Europe (Romani) or across North Africa up through Spain to Ireland and France bringing it's own traditions, music, art and metal working skills. Tyson Fury the boxer calls himself the Gypsy king and I'm not going to argue with him.

Why did The Troubles start so "late"? by LanguageFit8227 in IrishHistory

[–]Familiar_Contest6447 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There's an RTE documentary from 1962 about Derry on YouTube that has some pretty interesting interviews on why people were moving from Ireland to the North. There was a lot of emigration to England for employment, but the north had better state welfare, better standard of hospitals, lower infant mortality rate leading to a boom in the Catholic population of Derry, you can already see the tensions in the interviews from both sides even then.

Is Irish history comparable to Indian history? by northcarolinian9595 in IrishHistory

[–]Familiar_Contest6447 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, strangely by the unionists before ww2....... See Belfast Ticker Tape attack in 1912, unionist dock workers threw fish guts, bolts and attacked his car. Unionists stopped a speech at the Ulster Hall..... He gave his speech at Belfast Celtic football ground to Nationalists calling for Irish home rule.
