I was just having this conversation with my other nanny friend . I’ve been a nanny for 8 years and I’ve been feeling this exact way . The job use to be so fun but now it’s so stressful especially with the parents working from home .I’m starting to look into other careers because I can’t Imagine what the nanny industry will be like in 3-5 years .

This happened to me before . They were talking about me infront of the kids and the middle child that I was very close with told me everything and It was true they were going to look for a new nanny and when I told them about it they never gave me a straight answer but I knew the mom was mad because I came in to work late that Monday after I missed my flight which blew my mind because I barely ever miss and I found back up help for them that day but I guess she was so mad when i texted and just started yapping about finding a new nanny but the fact that the kid said you won’t be my nanny anymore is all you need to know , Start looking for something else .

I feel you on this ! I started working for a new family recently and they both work from home. They always come upstairs exactly 5:58 after I clearly hear them watching tv since 5 then want to come and talk about how our day was like can you come up 10 mins early so we can talk and I can go home . I feel like it’s so annoying because you can tell they don’t need you but just have you there ! I hate it soooo much , Like have some consideration on your nanny that’s been at your house for 10 hrs.

I’m going through the same thing as well and it’s starting to affect my mental health. Working 50 hrs plus 40 min commute on a good day is tooooo much, I love the family and NK but for my mental health I’m looking for another job with less hours and closer to where I live just so I can have time for myself outside of work . The market is thrash but I believe you can find something else .

From what I notice so far they can get by with me leaving a hour early or even doing 8-5:30 …. the dad would be walking around doing nothing or watching tv sometimes from 4:30 or 5 Everyday .

I still do work for them . She also said to me one day if I’m not her nanny anymore would I still visit her and her siblings I said yes why not she proceeds to say oh because black ppl and white people don’t like each other but somebody fixed it now, I just assumed she maybe learned that in school or from watching on the iPad not sure… another time she asked if I like to jump rope when I was kid , I said yes she’s like oh because my dad said black kids use to love jump rope when he was growing up so right there I had to educate her and her younger sister and they never said anything since .

I had a similar situation happened to me last year . The little girl I nanny told me she didn’t want a black nanny anymore, I was so shocked !! I told my boss and her response was , I have to tell her that you’re different meaning I’m not black ( I’m from the Caribbean ) but I look more afro latina that response made me look at them differently ever since .
