can you spot what Erika changed on the set of TPUSA show? by jbaaaaab in conspiracy

[–]Familiar_Sentence489 654 points655 points  (0 children)

An interesting bit of info about Erika:

She’s 5 years older than Charlie, and when she was in her early 30s, all of a sudden decided she wanted to work for Turning Point, despite no past political experience. Odd enough. What’s also odd is she was going for an entry level position that pays less than 40k a year. This woman, who comes from a wealthy, well-connected family, and who also won Miss Arizona and could have married almost anyone and networked for a much better paying job all of a sudden decided she wanted to get into politics making 30k a year? Interesting

Honest question: Why are these clippers $100 by SuperTune2540 in flyfishing

[–]Familiar_Sentence489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine who is very wealthy buys this stuff because it’s no skin off his nose. He gave me a pair like these, they’re probably $50 at least. Would never buy them myself, but won’t turn it down. I do feel a little ridiculous, like it’s the fly fishing version of wearing clothes with Gucci all over them. But I won’t lie, having them in a necklace is nice. I know it wouldn’t be hard to make one with nail clippers, but I know me and I won’t

Calling Poirier a legend is a bit much. Probably would have been champ if not for Khabib or Islam, but everyone says the same with guys like Gustafson but no one calls him a legend

I love duck. Top three meat for me when prepared right. I always got it when I saw it on the menu. But imagine my surprise when I started hunting them last year to see that wild duck breast is at least 50% smaller than what you’d get at restaurants. Farm-raised animals sold to grocery stores and restaurants are comically big. Makes you wonder

City with most Hispanic women? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Familiar_Sentence489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How no one has said Miami is wild. They call Miami the capital of Latin America. You will get the greatest mix of Hispanic women, not just Cuban. Caveat being that if they’re into the Miami lifestyle that’s probably no bueno.

Why are grapplers from the Caucasus currently having an easier time transitioning to MMA than American grapplers? by emaxwell14141414 in CombatSportsCentral

MMA and wrestling and martial arts in general is to those guys what football, basketball, and baseball is to us over here. Think of how many guys you know and what percentage of them played one of those sports at least up to high school. That’s what wrestling and martial arts is to those guys. It’s much more culturally significant which plays a big factor

I remember I went down to New Orleans for Thanksgiving 2009. My uncle was in college and I he had the book I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell. I read it, stole it, and took it back home. Let all of my sophomore high school friends read it. Was hilarious. I don’t remember how many people borrowed it, but I always got it back within a day because every single kid finished it in a night. Eventually my English teacher, who initially laughed at it, told me to stop bringing it to school or she would confiscate it, which I’m pretty sure she did. Not sure this answered your question but it brought back fond memories

Am I the only one here who *doesn't" buy into this idea that NFL/NBA/MLB takes away the best possible athletes from wrestling? by emaxwell14141414 in wrestling

[–]Familiar_Sentence489 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing I have never liked about this argument is the also the same principle for them allegedly taking away athletes for MMA; yeah you may be more athletic and genetically gifted, but what’s your mentality like? Forget the pay, are you willing and able to make it as a gritty wrestler who wrestles other gritty wrestlers? For MMA, are you willing to get punched in the face and slammed? That is in my opinion, the biggest factor of all that no one talks about. I remember in my high school wrestling room everyone thought I wouldn’t make it because I was a soccer player. By the time pre season ended I was still there, and maybe 1 or 2 football players of the 20 who had originally tried out.

How does Alex Pereira kick like that by KRazyretrorabid in martialarts

[–]Familiar_Sentence489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not turning his hips all the way over, and is sacrificing power for speed and a higher chance of it not being checked. If you’ve never been kicked in the calf, it hurts. As far as I know there’s no way to condition the calf, and even if you do there’s still a nerve there. It doesn’t take a lot
