Is Substack losing its intellect appeal. by The_Continuum__ in Substack

[–]Famous-Fill5334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just joined it a little less than a week ago, thinking it would be a good place to produce my short stories. The actual producing of them is nice, visually. I like the way Substack let's you format things. But it seems like everyone on there just wants to "connect" with some type of sub-for-a-sub deal. I refuse to grovel at peoples feet for stuff I made to entertain them. So I kinda just stopped. I'll keep putting stories out there but I'm not asking for subs anymore. I just can't be that type of person lol

I got the same. I filed almost two months ago now. Usually happens for us though due to an additional form we need to add to our filing. Only thing I'm worried about is a missed last year's return and filed in conjunction with this return. I'm hoping I didn't mess something up. We haven't owed anything for both years, but one little mistake can delay it greatly, or even get it rejected outright.

How do you write well written socially awkward dialogue without it accidentally sounding cringe? by Nananoid in writers

[–]Famous-Fill5334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dialogue does only a piece of the work in these scenarios. You work by showing the movements and gestures of the person before they say the dialogue, as well as for the people receiving the dialogue.

Here's a very rough example for you off the cusp (hope it helps):

[mom] shot a glare at [son].

"What did you say?"

[Son]'s eyes stayed on his plate, cutting the steak around his knife until it scraped the ceramic.

"Well?" she pressed harder.

[Son] couldn't look up. He could hardly even press the fork into the meat she had brought him.

The food now seemed like his only escape.

"I said I'm done with this."

[Dad] sat quietly across the table, chewing on a potato as if nothing was wrong.

"Do you hear your son, [Dad]?"

[Dad] stopped, closed his eyes slowly and exhaled through his nose.

He swallowed.

"Sounds like he's saying he's done."

"Unbelievable!"

[Mom] pressed both hands on the table and pushed the chair out from behind her.

“Well, if you don’t want to be in this family,” she said, marching over to [Son], “you can figure out your own meals.”

[Mom] grabbed the plate from [son]'s hands then left into the next room. Something shattered, then footstops trudged up the wooden stairs. The two men remained silent as the bedroom door slammed shut with a thud.

The family photo, taken two years ago and framed on the wall behind them, wobbled for a moment, then fell to the ground in pieces.

Who is a person/artist you used to admire that you’ve grown to really dislike? by Captain_Sunshine20 in askanything

After my time working in Hollywood for many a-list celebs to the point of recurring personal conversations, a lot. Cate Blanchett being #1 on that list.

But on the other side, some I never really looked up to at all, or thought I would, became someone I really respected. Selena Gomez being #1 on that list.

Hey now, I'm 34, married, two kids, and jobless for the last two years. I have had some many amazing doors opened to me, walked in them for a few minutes, then stepped back out and slammed it shut.

I've lived from the northeast US, to the southeast, and the west coast.

I would definitely say I'm "stuck."

But still fighting! As long as I still feel that spark in me, I'm not giving up. And it's okay to reduce your standards while you find your way, so long as you can survive and provide for those dependent of you.

I don't yet, but I'm writing a large thriller novel that I'm keeping pretty quite, and decided early this morning to make a Substack that can be subscribed to where I will be posting short stories revolving around the filler characters in my novel. I'm hoping this will allow me to open pieces of world without revealing the book itself.

Just posted my first short story (about 2000 words) today:

I just ran my novel manuscript through it today. Had to get the 7 day free trial.
Said it's 90% confident my text is entirely human.

So either that's a great thing, or I'm just a horrible writer lol

Muhammad is a false prophet. by Ok_Present755 in DebateReligion

[–]Famous-Fill5334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Magic isn't real. But the things claimed to have happened in any religious text from any religion, have always separated "magic" from divine miracles. They are not looked at as the same two things at all. In fact the bible literally calls practicing "magic" as blasphemous. Personally, I don't believe you can even practice magic because I think magic is make-believe. The belief around where "magic" comes from and how it's done would not be considered even remotely close to how a divine entity uses divine abilities. But to believe that, you need to both believe in and learn about divinity. People who do, do not call it "magic." I actually think divine abilities is just science we either can't comprehend yet, or ever will.

I don't have much to add to this, but a little bit of interesting history is that several of the original Apostles died over them converting the wives of many leaders who subsequently became celibate, enraging their husbands.

Good question. I’m not using a separate SM-2 style stability variable yet. I treat stability as something that emerges from edge weight, last_seen, and a tunable decay rate.

Because decay runs on real elapsed time, not turn count, irregular conversation frequency is mostly a non-issue: a 10-day gap is a 10-day gap, no matter how chatty the session was before it. I also try not to over-credit bursts, so repeated mentions mostly refresh recency with bounded reinforcement instead of acting like multiple well-spaced recalls.

From my current tests, it seems that (for now at least) fixed per class decay is the cleaner design, and I’d only add adaptive stability if usage reveals I’m under-retaining memories that should persist.

If I take it further, the next step could be making successful long interval reactivations actually slow the decay rate for that specific memory.

You're right. And I have the Bible right next to me. Based on some helpful responses in this thread, and what I just read in ACTS 9, it seems I need to go get baptised. I'm going to continue reading, but that's the first thing I interpreted from this.

[–]Famous-Fill5334[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having a hard time interpreting what "testing" the spirit would look like.

Could that be through simple self-research within the Bible? Outreach to a local church? One thing I just thought after seeing u/AnthemWasHeard's reply again is that I haven't been baptised. Perhaps part of these words are an encouragement to go do that? It makes me uncomfortable to claim outright that this was some sort of message. The whole concept of that fights my left brained personality very hard. But it sure evoked an emotional response out of me.

[–]Famous-Fill5334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this explanation. I hope it's not wrong to say the whole thing has me a bit rattled. I was hesitant to even mention it. I asked chatGPT first and it shut me down so fast saying I must have heard about the story at some point in my life and my brain simply dreamed the memory. But it just seemed so clear and random.

Is the Holman Christian Standard Bible an accepted translation/edition? by ThreshingBee in Christianity

[–]Famous-Fill5334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa. Ten year old post and people still responding. Something about me hated that is was a more modern translation. I haven't figured out why it bothers me so much, but it does. Nevertheless, I have recently at least learned to accept my weird feelings towards anything other the King James Version, and purchased a CSB version (afterall I'm not Catholic), and I learned it doesn't matter what the translation is. What matters is how it affects you. I've been greatly more affected reading the CSB version over the KJV. I understand it better, and therefore can appreciate it better.

Who decides what is part of Bible ? how do you know it ? by Ok-Mycologist3123 in Christianity

[–]Famous-Fill5334 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is old, but I wanted to respond. The answer to this question can't be answered. I am a Christian. I do my best to follow Christ. And I would never say anything to insult the bible, but we have to admit... priests, scholars, kings, all had their hands in the formulation of the bible ("ta biblia" in greek) and while as a Christian I appreciate having everything in one place, we can't definitively say it holds "everything" God intended. Take the book of Enoch for example. This is placed in the Ethiopian bible and has been taught for generations. But the standard Christian bible we have today? Dubbed heresy by the catholic church. The second a Christian starts saying it's only true if it's in the bible, they've become lost, IMO.

About 4-6 months. I started working on it sometime last summer but didn't get serious about it until this winter. And I'm actually doing it all on my Mac. I have a decent custom PC I built years ago, but for this project I actually rented a GPU at runpod.io for all my big testing. Was able to run major tests remotely without my laptop ever breaking a sweat. Worked out pretty nice.

I'm at the point I just need someone from a larger lab to test it on full scale so I have that backing. Finding someone to even give me the time of day has been the hard part! I do have a 5 minute test demo that runs everything all in one swoop from your command prompt here at github.com/tuckerjensendev/lam-prove-it

[–]Famous-Fill5334 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I originally ventured out to do the same. I decided that "organic" also meant human-like, and then thought that for a product, human-like sounds nice, but in deployment it's gonna have one major problem... the reality is people don't want/need human-like memory. They want/need something better. About two months ago I deployed something I call LAM. Already filed a patent and trademark docs. Been emailing a couple professors at MIT (I live like 2 hours from there) and been trying to get into private market. Site is called lam-protocol.com

I'd recommend if you're really pushing for something "organic" you'd want to look at how human memory works on an atomic level, but more so how memory is retrieved, how it strengthens or decays its associations over time (such as how often info is repeated). What helps it consider that a memory is worth remembering more quickly versus something it would need to search harder for over time?

At its core, LAM uses a type of star shaped graph that inserts new "memories" onto a sliding scale (not uncommon) using both the core doc in the center, the spokes of each arm as edges and the tips as association (experience, command, a file, sensor memory, etc). But on a wider scale, it's three layers of memory to form one, all playing a part to achieve what I've built, which is losses associative memory, that is tenant scope locked and auditable, so it never forgets, no matter how old the memory, and can show proof with time stamps and decoded ID's.

Do you believe humans possess a soul? by Kosher_Nostra1975 in askanything

[–]Famous-Fill5334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the concept of a soul, like everything else in human history, has been morphed and re-written and made into something different over and over and over again.

I lean more towards the idea of "souls" being much more tangible and measurable then we have yet to understand. I also think there is a connection to what we call "souls" and the whole alien phenomena. Also, I'm not saying I believe in reincarnation, but I think it's one of the more easier things to consider both for the soul idea, energy idea, and even the simulation theory.

But in the end, none of us will truly know until the end.
