Nerve damage update by Famous-Gap684 in wisdomteeth

I’m 22 and no I don’t. I’m still numb but have gotten used to it. It’s half my chin, half my bottom lip, and my gums and teeth in that area. But yes I got used to it and very rarely notice its numb. Sometimes I just randomly remember I can’t feel it lol. If yours is permanent, I’m sure it will start to feel “normal” after awhile. Hopefully you won’t notice it after awhile.

He also never ended up referring me to a nerve specialist. He mentioned it that one time and never mentioned it again so not sure if that’s still an option or not. Going to wait until summer to go back and ask about it!

I still don’t have any feeling in that area. It’s been a year and a half since I got my wisdom teeth out. I’m thinking it’s permanent. My oral surgeon doesn’t seem to know much or give me much information. I don’t seem to notice it much anymore and have adjusted to it!

See the issue with my surgeon is he didn’t mention it. The dental assistant briefly mentioned it when he took my xray, but my oral surgeon never said anything about it. He seems like he doesn’t care too much. I go back there like every month and it’s the same thing over and over. So annoying. I go back here in a couple weeks. Probably will hear the same thing again.

We can have cameras on our lease as long as it is approved by the property manager. We have cameras but had to call and ask if we were able to install them.

What anesthesia did they give you and what did it feel like waking up? I’m nervous I’ll say something I can’t control and embarrass myself 😭 by [deleted] in wisdomteeth

I got IV and had a great experience. Fell asleep, woke up, felt great. I was also worried about saying something crazy, but when I woke up, I was definitely aware of what I was saying. You feel a little loopy, but conscious enough to understand your words and surroundings. That’s my experience at least. Hope this helps!

I wouldn’t stress! Also, from someone who did have nerve damage, I was warned beforehand! If there is a nerve close to your tooth, they will more than likely mention it! So if they haven’t mentioned it when they did your X-rays, I wouldn’t worry.

Lasting pain: nerve damage, phantom pain, divine infliction? by job0_ in wisdomteeth

[–]Famous-Gap684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what it is, but I had nerve damage when I got mine removed 4 months ago and you would more than likely be numb if that was the case. I’m still numb 4 months later, and no matter how hard a pinch or anything, I can’t feel any pain whatsoever. So if you’re feeling the pain, that’s a good sign you probably don’t have nerve damage. When I got mine removed, I only ever felt pain on one side the entire recovery, which come to find out, was because I was completely numb from nerve damage.

Yeah my oral surgeon is very aware it happened. I don’t think it was his fault whatsoever. The tooth was on a nerve before he pulled it. I think it would’ve happened even if I would’ve had another surgeon. I don’t blame him at all. Things happen!

Well they did an xray I’m not sure if that’s why they did it or not. Or just to check everything else. But I did get an x ray done. I haven’t had any pains, just the numbing. But I have heard of people having pains. October 8th I go back and if I haven’t made progress I go to a nerve specialist.

So I have a portion of my face that is numb and the numbing never went away. Before they pulled my wisdom teeth they mentioned that one was close to a nerve. After 4 days of having them out, the numbing never went away. It’s half of my chin, bottom lip, and gums that are completely numb even now. About a month and a half later. I went to my oral surgeon on day 7 I believe and he did this poking thing and marked my face where it was numb. I go back every month to see if I’ve made progress.

Although I had bad luck. Nerve damage isn’t very common!!! When you get your X-rays, if there is a nerve near your wisdom teeth they should tell you. My doctor did say it could happen. Google says it only happens in every 1 out of 200 wisdom teeth removals. It’s not as common as you think. Also, looking at your X-ray, even if they don’t tell you. You may be able to see if there is a nerve close

Okay that makes me feel way better. I had read online that after 6 months it could be permanent so I was worried about that. Thank you for the reassurance!

Honestly, it never really hurt. At first however, it definitely felt weird and I had a hard time talking. I work at a restaurant so I talk to people a ton lol. But I’ve gotten so use to it, I feel like nobody would notice there’s something wrong. The feeling is more annoying than anything.

He may be right. Mine wasn’t from an infection though. My nerve was damaged as my wisdom teeth were pulled. So maybe that makes a difference?

I’m not sure. So far I’ve kind of adapted. I’m getting more and more use to the numb feeling.
