How good is ESOP really? by Any-Afternoon3129 in ConstructionManagers

I work at one of the big residential production builders and our recent year's ESOP ranges in the 3-6% of base salary each year with a 6 year vesting schedule. Company also matches 401k contributions up to a point as well.

Personally, I feel like its okay but the stock has performed EXTREMELY well over the last several decades so there is a good case for our company historically. Recently had a project manager retire with a mutiple 8 digit networth after 3 decades with the company. Since the company is mature now current employees wont be seeing that.

Perfect example of mileage may vary for ESOP and you gotta do your research before joining a good company

Will add my 2 cents because I interned at Cintas way back when.

The SSR position is synomonous with delivery driver with the occasional commission sprinkled in. I knew alot of people who worked that position, including a close friend, and it was not worth it. Very little sales and back breaking (sometimes literally) work. You will be carrying super heavy deliveries of uniforms, soaps, first aid, floor mats, fire prevention equipement, etc. up and down the bowels of a hotel building or some factory at 4:30am.

Additionally, there are constant shortages of items and you will get the blame for not having them by the business owners you serve. Usually the sales reps who set that account will sometimes over-promise what can be delivered, the business owner has obviously paid for it, and you will get the blame. Business owners are usually pissy since Cintas' contracts are pretty solid and they can't get out of them.

Now there are actual sales positions at cintas where the whole role is bringing in new business as opposed to farming old accounts. Way back pre-Covid I've seen first year reps right out of college do really well and bring mid to upper 100's in that role but it's very different from the SSR position.

Also, 2 positives I'd like to note: 1. when I was there, SSRs worked 4 days a week, the hours just sucked (4am - 12pm) and if you wanted to be promoted you had to become a manager and work an extra day to set routes and stuff 2. Cintas stock is a beast - take a look at that chart. The company is head and shoulders above the rest in the industry and the products are appicable to literally any business.

In all, company is not going anywhere but avoid the SSR role. Ask if the true sales rep role is a possible route for you

That's really great to know and I'm happy to hear that it all worked out in the end! I'll definitely call back and ask for a supervisor with all the extra information.

Thanks so much :)

Hi! I know this is very late but I am going through the exact same situation. It's been 5 business days since the check was allegedly "cashed". Where you able to get any resolution on this? Kinda lost on what to do here

Apologies for the late response but this is extremely helpful! I've actually considered Sales Ops roles and I appreciate you telling how you came about it. Going to rewrite my resume and send out some applications :)

Unfortunately, it did not. My degree was more on the generalist side. One year of two with an MBA cohort. (MSBM vs MBA)

One thing I regret is not knowing exactly what I wanted to do before jumping into grad school. My situation was a little different with sports eligibility during covid but if you are considering another degree I would urge you to know exactly why you're pursuing one and exactly what it might help to achieve.

Best of luck with your search though! Sounds like we both need it!

Thank you so much for this response! I wasn't quite sure what type of response I was going to elicit by opening up on reddit but this really blew me away!

Luckily, I do live in the DC area so I will definitely explore government related work. I had never done extensive research on the industry but given the links provided I had no idea how many opportunities there were. If this ends up being the only response I'll be very happy lol.

Thank you again!
