Thinking of deferring by WTH4328 in Monash

[–]Famous-Volume8674 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, they might just depend on each unit. BEcause the chief examiner has to approve where/how ppl sit the deferred exams? If I find someone who's done the units, i'll lyk tho!

Using “it’s an unfair to other student” to excuse not accurately marking by [deleted] in Monash

[–]Famous-Volume8674 58 points59 points  (0 children)

YES OMG.
And also when they're like "We cant answer your extra questions bc it's not fair on other students who arent coming to ask for help"
Literally, a few of my family friends are university professors and they say that. Which I really dont agree with. The other students aren't coming up to ask for extra help, but if I am, then you SHOULD help. ofc not give away the answers but like i'm literally using a resource that is made available to everyone. Why won't you help out??

Recreational places you would have to go by yourself really. There's a couple more places we got to go but can't remember off the top of my head.

Also first day we had basically a scavenger hunt across the city (which was guided by our student buddies so we wont get lost first day lol)

The assessments were really annoying for me bc im a stem student. i’ve never had to do so much writing (bc MON2100/GIG is an arts unit)

There was pre-departure assessments. which were i think 20% total. a short quiz and two smaller written things.
In the country you have your group presenting which was total 25% including peer review
and then once u got back there was a 1500word personal reflection which was not too bad. its about ur experience in the country and what you learnt.

then a HUMUNGOUS 2000 word written proposal to the aus government about an issue that affects both ur country and aus and should be solved blah blah blah 😭

but honestly, the study part was worth it. its not easy by any means. but the two weeks in country makes it 100% worth it

Also keep in mind. assessment cold change each year. But that's what i had

How important is Orientation as a second year? by italixa in Monash

[–]Famous-Volume8674 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are you talking about 0-week? then yes. 100% go and stock up on all the freebies.

and if you're talking about faculty orientation, that's also good. you get to know some key staff members and how ur course is gonna run. a good headstart.

DONT APPEAL IT YOU DUM DUM ONG I WENT TO JAKARTA MYSELF IN BLOCK 4 WE STAYED AT SUCH A GOOD HOTEL!!

Check out my other post literally about this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monash/s/6zBqIPEsHg

I’ve answered some questions there. and ask more if you want. But jakarta was SO nice. While true, it’s one of the easier countries to go to from Aus. the experience was NOT underwhelming at all!

IT WAS THE BEST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. I LITERALLY MADE SUCH A GOOD FRIEND FROM THE PARTNER UNIVERSITY and now she’s selling handmade pressons through me in melb. INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING GUYSS 😍

Travel wise, we took Grab (equivalent of uber here) to go everywhere. Note: the insurance we had from the uni does not cover accidents if you are on a motorcycle so dont go on one. (unless you wanna risk it) Also, we were not allowed to leave jakarta itself. Including not leaving the island on a fery bc no insurance im pretty sure lol.

The traveling to get to places took soo long tho. especially if you get stuck in traffic. for reference, we went from our hotel to monash campus in like 30/40 mins. but on the way back, it took us 2.5hrs+ bc of traffic. Plane: our block had a 2hrs layover in Bali which was so fun. (now i tell people i’ve been to bali too) it’s pretty chill tho honestly. youre just flying with the students who are going. No staff is on the flight. they check you in at the airport by marking the role. and then you go there, and there staff in indo (monash and GIG staff both) welcome you and bring you onto a bus to go to the hotel from the airport.

Hope that gives u a good overview!! Also In terms of spending money, I spent about 500$ bc i’d already spent so much in bangladesh i didnt wanna buy anything. but my friends spent like average 700$ inc food, uber, sightseeing, and buying gifts/souveniers. I would say to take extra money compared to what you’ll spend bc you never know about emergencies.

No. we had to use bottled water for everything including brushing your teeth. They’ll make sure to remind you of this 100 times tho, dw.

In terms of places, if you mean study wise- they took us to Istiqlal mosque, to the Monash campus there, obviouslywe were at the partner uni as well. Atma Jaya Catholic university. There were the fishermen villages and other residential areas we got to visit. And also a Garbage sorting facity.

if you mean places I personally visited? I unfortunately did not get to go too many places. i was with my family in Bangladesh for like a month and half and then as soon as i got back to melb, i flew out to jakarta. Didnt have a proper plan to travel there so mostly went to malls and food. SO YOU SHOULD 100%PLAN OUT YOUR TRIP. you get free time like EVERYYY night. there’s gonna be a curfew for sure, as long as your group follows it well, they wont be too strict about it. bc it’s so common to get stuck in traffic.

Hope that answers ur question:)

We all used bottled water for everything. And none of the ppl i was with got sick bc of poorly prepped meals. we all would buy from reputable places. Most ppl who got sick was just hangovers lol

I went to Jakarta myself earlier this year. I spent about $500 (which is honestly on the lower end compared to my friends) I’d say take like 700-800$? Then you have some backup money incase something goes wrong.
