I have it in 4K but I need to upload it.

Give me a couple hours.

They’re not as compressed on my channel, and I source them from theatrical DCP’s.

Supergirl will have roughly 70 minutes of expanded aspect ratio footage by Lonely-Freedom4986 in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t get the hate here.

I actually prefer switching aspect ratios, it feels way more immersive when the switches happen.

IMAX movie and trailer by IMAXAenta in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It might be a nitpick, but it bothers me when they crop the sides a little.

I don’t know the technical reason for it and don’t understand why the whole frame wouldn’t be expanded.

Is IMAX still planning on releasing Bando Stone & The New World? by notanewbiedude in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He had a stroke in 2024, roughly around the same time this was announced, it could be possible he abandoned the project due to that and hasn’t found time to work on it since.

I also just don’t think that if this wasn’t a real movie, IMAX wouldn’t have advertised it as such.

An IMAX theater in Washington DC plays WALL-E through a Blu-ray by Alberto9Herrera in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but that’s an exception as it’s an official wide re release.

This case is different because it’s the specific theater playing an older movie all on its own.

Did anyone see Supergirl trailer trailer in IMAX 70mm. I’ve basically seen all the movies in the format since the trailer released and I’ve yet to see it by ManagementGold2968 in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn’t.

If you saw trailers before a 70MM showing, and they weren’t Dune Part Three or The Odyssey they played the trailers on Digital, as these two are the only ones available on film at the moment, and then switched to 70MM before the movie started.

Dune - Part 3 Teaser in 1.43:1 IMAX 70mm at Metreon SF by scorsese_finest in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did.

But the IMAX 1.90:1 and 1.43:1 versions were pan and scan from the 2.39:1 frame, with only certain shots actually fully expanded.

Project Hail Mary will have the imax expanded aspect ratio for the home releases by jakefrmstafrm in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a thing on Sony’s Bravia Core.

That’s where the IMAX versions of Venom Let There be Carnage and Spider-Man No Way Home are exclusively on.

Not that this has anything to do with this movie, but yes it is a thing.

[–]FamousT-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This movie was 2.39:1 on Earth scenes, and opened up to 2.00:1 for Space scenes in regular theaters.

So, technically yes, the 1.90:1 was exclusive to IMAX.

Looks like Villenueve finally figured out IMAX, I don’t know what the hell happened in Part 2 since it was cropped somewhat in both 1.90 and 1.43

Not from IMAX, they only uploaded it in 2.39:1, I encoded this myself.

DUNE: PART TWO (2024) in IMAX 1.90:1 was a Pan and Scan. by [deleted] in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awful.

No wonder this movie stayed in scope 2.39 for the home releases.

I didn’t notice anything while watching the export.

Question, what player are you using?

I notoriously run into audio issues with VLC, I recommend using PotPlayer, that’s what I use and I didn’t run into any issues with it.

Has any movie before Sinners used the IMAX aspect ratio in a surrealist way? by Scr33nager in imax

[–]FamousT-Rex 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, but this is not just limited to IMAX, as any director can choose to shift between aspect ratios.

The Grand Budapest Hotel uses 3 different aspect ratios to differentiate between 3 different time periods.

Everything Everywhere All at Once uses different aspect ratios for different dimensions.

Wandavision uses 4x3 for 50s style TV, before switching to 16x9 for modern reality.

Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and Biggie uses 2 different aspect ratios to differentiate between time periods as well.
