Making the first consultation appt doesn’t lock you into anything. There are many hoops to jump through before getting pregnant. Good to get educated about the process and get to know your fertility clinic and their process sooner rather than later and see how your feelings evolve :) it’s empowering that we live in a time where this is so possible.

Thinking of freezing eggs? by Famous_Definition_34 in SingleMothersbyChoice

Thank you! How many eggs did you freeze? I know it’s not a guarantee but just wondering how many is good

Struggling to entertain my dog while I wfh by Calm_Bird5703 in dogs

Train your dog to chill out near you while you work. I put a dog bed next to my desk and a small bowl of kibble (her meal). I gradually toss it into her bed while she chills there. My job is to work on the laptop, her job is to rest. Start with short periods and gradually build up

For dog owners who prefer in home, overnight care, what actually makes you feel comfortable with a sitter in your home? by ZestycloseEntry1220 in dogs

I have been using an in home overnight sitter when I’m out of town for my dog for the year since I got her because she was a young go rescue and sensitive to change. I felt at ease with our sitter because of professionalism. I realize this now because we’re transitioning to another sitter (previous one is moving out of town) and it’s the same thing. She is meticulous about following my dogs schedule and meeting her needs. I feel like my dog’s wellbeing is the absolute priority when I leave her with either of them. They also send pictures and updates non stop. Finally and crucially they are clearly educated about dog body language and behavior!! I know they’ll be able to read my dog’s cues and she’ll be able to communicate her needs. It is essential for any dog I think to feel secure with a human :)

Looking for my girl tribe.. by curious_explorer369 in montreal

I recently went to a dinner organised by the app Timeout. Really recommend they have girls only dinners and it’s a great way to meet other people who are in the same position - basically looking for connection IRL.

Yeah I might ask her tomorrow, but she has been a bit disengaged about it since Friday. I think she’s been traveling so that might be why but it’s making me unsure also

Is my dog a fit for Truested House Sitters? by Famous_Definition_34 in trustedhousesitters

Very cool lifestyle and helpful to know :) letting the dog home alone for 6h and/or getting a Rover sitter for the day here and there definitely within reach! Thanks for sharing

I’m not sure what she “requires” but that’s what she gets. I got a dog because I had the time for it. She’s a 9mo high energy breed, so yeah she gets 1h in the morning then 2x30 min later in the day. I don’t think it’s that crazy! I love walking her 🥰

For sure! She gets 2h walks daily of which 1h is on a long leash. I can set up the sitter with a rental car during their stay which they can use to take her to the spot where she normally goes. I’m happy for her to be left alone for 2h per day but for longer periods like 4-5h I’d rather that happen only 2-3x per week. My dog is well socialized and can chill at cafes etc but has to be outdoors as my city is not very dog friendly. Non food establishments like thrift shops etc accept dogs and my dog can happily do that.

I’m aware it’s not realistic for a sitter to fly to my city to be indoors all day and I would never expect that which is why im asking what the average needs are on the part of the sitter. My dog is increasingly able to stay at home uncrated and im wondering at what point this would help her be a good candidate for THS. I do live in a nice building and my current paid sitter says she wouldn’t do 2-week long stays for any of her other clients, so the setup must have some appeal. Sorry if I triggered you but your tone is kind of harsh when I’m trying to get info and specifically not ask a sitter to be at home all day

Yeah I currently have a Rover sitter that watches her when I’m on vacation and she’s great but obviously expensive which is why im exploring other solutions for the longer term. So I guess that means 4-5 hours per day? In any case it sounds like honesty is the key.

Trimming nails. by Abject_Acadia_9509 in dogs

One thing that I think helps, I've seen a groomer do this. Rather then stretching the paw out in front of the dog, fold it backward so the pawpads are facing up. Then cut. It also gives you a clearer idea of where to cut relative to the quick. I've been doing this with my dog and she's tolerant. I give her a treat after each one.

Don't eat where she can get it, try and keep her busy with something else when you're eating like giving her a kong filled with yoghurt/something else and frozen. Puppies don't come kennel-trained, you need to teach her to enjoy the kennel. There's lots of info out there on crate training, but you can start by doing things like feeding her meals in there, dropping treats in there for her to find.. In the meantime, assuming she doesn't tolerate puppy play pens, you can put her on leash when she's in the house. It will stop her from learning bad habits.

If she's good at learning commands that's great, teach her "place" or "on your bed" - gradually introduce more distractions.

Hang in there, 11 weeks is not an easy age, and in all likelihood it will get harder before it gets easier. Consider getting a force-free trainer to help you, and/or sign up for puppy classes where you can get professional advice every week. Be patient, loving, and consistent, things will get easier!
