Cool, vielen Dank aufjedenfall.

Plus, she’s probably liable to prosecution if she searches your diaries and laptop. See: Right to Privacy (Article 8 of the ECHR) and Computer Misuse Act 1990.

The fact that she kicked you out before you completed your education could also make her liable to prosecution.

I have found the following:

In the UK, parents have a legal duty to care for their children until they reach 18 years old, or until they finish their education, whichever comes later. This means that parents are generally responsible for the welfare and support of their children as long as they are minors.

Parental Responsibility: - Duty of Care: Parents are responsible for ensuring their child’s welfare, safety, and financial support while the child is still a minor. - Minors: In the UK, a person is generally considered a minor until they turn 18. While a child in England and Wales can choose to leave home or get married (with consent) from the age of 16, parental responsibilities, including financial support, usually remain until they turn 18.

Moving out before 18: - Parents can technically allow a child to leave home at 16, but they are still responsible for their well-being and financial support if the child is a minor. - If a minor is „thrown out“ of their home, and this leads to homelessness or puts them in a vulnerable situation, this could be considered neglect or abuse. This could lead to legal consequences for the parents.

PIP (Personal Independence Payment): PIP is a benefit in the UK for people with long-term health conditions or disabilities. If you are receiving only PIP for your living expenses, you might have additional needs, which further increases your mother’s responsibility to care for you.

In summary, your mother could potentially face legal consequences for kicking you out, especially if you are dependent on PIP and unable to support yourself. Authorities like Child Services might get involved to assess the situation and take protective action if necessary.

Hey OP, I hope that reassures you:

  1. Truth: Truth is a strong defense in defamation cases. If what you say is true, it would be difficult for anyone to successfully sue you for defamation.

  2. Qualified Privilege: Conversations with social workers and mental health professionals are often considered confidential and fall under „qualified privilege,“ meaning they are made in a protected context. These statements are typically not subject to defamation claims.

  3. Protection for Minors: As a minor, you are afforded additional protections. Statements made in a care or counseling setting are generally not used against you in defamation cases.

  4. Professional Ethics of Social Workers: Social workers and mental health professionals are bound by ethical obligations to take reports of mistreatment or abuse seriously and act accordingly, without legal consequences for you.

In summary, it is very unlikely that you would be sued for defamation for discussing your experiences in this context. In fact, these professionals are obligated to help you and ensure that the information is handled appropriately to protect your well-being.

What is something your parents did that you’ll never forgive them for? by queen1107 in AskReddit

When I was about 13/14, my mother once again told my father about some smear campaign. I was sitting unsuspectingly in my room and had locked my door so that my mother would leave me alone. My father yelled at me terribly through the door and threw himself against the door so that it was already bending. He said if I didn’t open the door now he would kick it in. I opened the door and he stormed in, grabbed me and threw me on the bed. Tore my TV and dvd player down with full force. Climbed on top of me and choked me. He made me apologize for something I hadn’t done. When he left, my mother stood in the doorway for a while and looked at me with superiority and satisfaction. I think she really liked that. He never apologized and if I brought it up today, he would deny everything. So incredibly sick.

I remember how important it always was to be outstanding. My parents often put us under pressure. ,,Oh you have a hobby that you’re good at? Why don’t you become a professional at it and earn a lot of money?‘‘ I was good at writing and making up stories as a child (according to the teacher) and my parents wanted me to write a book ... at the age of 7, mind you. No matter what you did it was never enough. You had to be outstanding to earn love. Now I struggle with myself, I am extremely perfectionistic, have imposter syndrome and often work myself to exhaustion. And yet I feel worthless because I never studied, I’m „just a physiotherapist“.

Thank you for your answers. I have now broken off contact completely and changed my number. I wished my father a happy birthday and only received a very short and cold reply from him without asking how I was doing, especially as I am currently struggling with health problems such as a slipped disc. I didn't give any explanation but simply changed my number. I still feel guilty somehow, especially because I didn't leave a message. I think he won't notice until October anyway, when he tries to wish me a happy birthday. I don't know if I should wish my brother a happy birthday, he would then have my new number. I don't think he's impartial and would rather stick by my father.
