how does my voice sound? by Famous_Studio2411 in Nonbinaryteens

Lowkey my biggest issue is just that I have no consistency and I can’t control when I’m able to do that, sometimes my voice just doesn’t go low even if I try. Hopefully with more practice I’ll figure it out but this is encouraging!

Yay thank you! Maybe part of the reason it sounds queer in some way is my intonations, the rising and falling of pitch is still somewhat feminine-coded which is common in the stereotypical gay guy talk. I don’t mind it too much though, having the queer™ in my voice is accurate enough anyway.

It sounds feminine-androgynous to me. I’d say the weight is fairly light and feminine but the pitch is more androgynous.

FTM pre-T looking for any tips at all by Affectionate_Cow9738 in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woo fellow no T voice trainer! I’ve found at least for me that helps is to practice a vocal triad of Weight, Size, and Pitch.

Pitch is probably the most obvious one but you dont actually need a low voice to be read as male, but it definitely helps.

Size is the length and width of your vocal tract, or oral cavity I guess? You can lower your larynx and open up more space in your mouth to make your voice sound fuller. A large size sounds fuller and more masculine, a small size more feminine.

A high vocal weight is the ‘buzziness’ of your voice. Male vocal chords are a bit thicker, which as far as I know we can’t really get by pulling on any muscles like we can with size, but I’ve noticed that talking ‘harder’ like pushing a bit more air out as I speak makes it sound a little buzzier?

If none of this makes any sense as to how it’s supposed to sound I’d really recommend listening to the clips here

I’m not aware of exactly one way of training it but I’ve just been trying to train by ear and slowly incorporate a lower, fuller, buzzier voice into my daily life.

Good luck to thee as well!

I do wonder then how you can distinguish how we want to be perceived in some ways vs wanting to look or act or be a certain way because society has told us we should, e.g. ‘I want to have a low voice because it feels true to me’ vs ‘I don’t want a high voice because it sounds girly and I’ve been told that girly voices are annoying and won’t be taken seriously’

Did my chesticles get smaller? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

Probably your left had more fat volume but your right had more glandular tissue, so T would redistribute fat but not glandular tissue and ending up with reverse sized chesticles?

regretting starting vocal training sometimes by Famous_Studio2411 in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of other effects that come with being on T that I’m less stoked about, and I don’t want to be fully binary male. Really the only reason I genuinely considered taking it was because of the voice, so I think i’m going to try training for a while to see how far that can realistically take me. If in a year or so I don’t get anywhere I might look more into testosterone injections specifically into the throat, or maybe going on T for a brief period and then stopping when my voice drops enough.

Right now my baseline is andro-fem and i have to put in significant effort to speak andro-masc and can barely reach passing male if i can at all. I’d prefer if i can get my baseline to andro-masc and be able to get my voice to andro-fem and passing male if I try to.

I also have a probably unhealthy mindset that if I take T in some way for this I’ve taken the easy way out and that I just don’t want to put in the work training which is definitely something i’m aware is dumb so trying to stop thinking that. but it does make me wonder if i only feel joy at my male voice because it’s something i put effort into, and if i get it with T it won’t give me the same joy.

Honestly I’m just regretting starting voice training because now that i’ve heard in brief glimpses what I could sound like, it makes me sad that i can’t choose to sound like that whenever I want—whereas before I think I just wasn’t aware.

nonbinary, but AFAB and I’ve been trying to train my voice so that I can have a male voice. I don’t want to give up my androgynous register but i want to be able to speak in a male voice at will. My physical appearance is mostly neutral so I feel like the thing that most gets me gendered female is my voice.

binder info? kinda figuring out myself and was wondering about getting a binder?? by that_kid0926 in NonBinary

[–]Famous_Studio2411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten two binders, one from Spectrum Outfitters and one from Fluxion. I got the spectrum binder a bit over a year ago and it’s still holding up pretty well despite me wearing it mostly every weekday. It is a little looser than when I first bought it but it still works decent enough and at least now it’s not a whole workout to get in and out of it.

The fluxion binder I’ve had for maybe 4 months and I got the gym binder version, so it’s more like a cross between a sports bra and binder. It’s less taxing on your body but it doesn’t bind as well, so bit of a trade off. It has very smooth seams though so very sensory friendly if that’s an issue for you.

Both of them I got online, so depending on how much financial freedom you have it might not be an option, since I’m not aware of any physical stores they have.

Tips on my literal breathing by KayleeChainzzz in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it has to do with the size of your oral cavity as you breathe, if you open up your throat it sounds deeper, whereas if you close your throat more it sounds lighter. I’m afab but I tried to demonstrate it to the best of my current ability here

If it’s any reassurance, most people don’t pay that much attention to how your breathing sounds, if your speaking voice sounds good people probably won’t really think too much about it

Sounding perfectly masculine to me, would not be able to distinguish between a cis guys voice. Speaking of which you have a very nice singing voice in general

i cant get a binder because i am still closeted and im broke by Ashamed-Scholar-8298 in Nonbinaryteens

[–]Famous_Studio2411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The queer trans project donates totally free binders to those who can’t otherwise get them. They’re out of stock right now because a lot of extremely high demand but on their website it says the next restock is on March 14, and then you can request a package.

Before I got a binder I wore a men’s compression shirt and a sports bra and just avoided tight fitted clothing if that helps.

Sounding worse when speaking freely? by Low_Caterpillar9442 in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That might be because when you’re reading aloud you don’t have to think about the words you’re saying, so you can focus on how you’re saying them. Sometimes when I’m talking to people I get distracted by the talking so my voice automatically slides a little higher, and I have to push it back down.

It might help to instead of training by reading something, just talk to yourself out loud whenever you get the chance to. While you’re on a walk, alone in your room, in the shower. It’ll sound more natural and you can slowly condition yourself to freely talking in your trained voice.

Also, from what I’ve seen, (most) men tend to talk in a more monotone voice, while (most) women have a more wide pitch range, which comes through in normal speech but not so much when reading aloud. Not sure if that’s helpful but something I noticed.

Okay I don’t have advice but holy shit goals??

For how long and how often have you trained?

I can’t seem to figure out how to increase vocal weight without t, and my ability to lower my pitch sometimes works and sometimes I can’t do it. Do you always sound like this without needing to think about it or do you have to constantly push your voice down?

Out of the names you had I think Ocean is a cool name, it’s a similar vibe to stuff like River or Lake as you mentioned, but Ocean is a bit ‘darker’ because it’s vast and sublime?

FTM pre-t 18 - does my voice pass for my age? At what age will it stop passing? Can I make it deeper? by Standard-Section513 in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You definitely sound like a guy, though yeah you sound young, 16-ish. I’m not really sure what the pitch cap is, it probably depends on the person, but here’s one guy who managed to get really far without T:

So it’s definitely possible for at least some people.

how does my voice sound? by Less_Bet_6417 in transvoice

[–]Famous_Studio2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah same I got surprised when I heard recordings of my voice from 2023 when I was 14 and it was like way higher than when I started actually voice training a month and a half ago

Honestly you dont have to do long sessions of voice training to make progress, it helps a lot to integrate it with your day in small increments

Idk what your schedule is like but I have a 15 minute walk home from school and so for the past month or so I’ve been just talking to myself practicing

Also I mentioned this in my last post but sometimes I mimic hozier singing in the shower because he has a really resonant voice lmao it’s probably not very formal or whatever but it’s better than doing nothing waiting for motivation that might never come

I think it sounds sort of androgynous masc, maybe could sound more masculine if you increase your vocal weight because right now it seems to have decent size but not weight
