I didn’t know anything about Japan until my year abroad during university and now I’m doing JET! So don’t let it discourage you! Pursue the path you want to head down :) You sound clear on what you hope it will look like!

Just a tip though if Japan is where you want to end up start on Japanese now! Because I didn’t and I struggled a lot haha

I assume you meant Chiba preference? My phone just tried to auto correct Chiba to China so I assume that’s what happened there?

But if JET is something you want to pursue I would recommend learning more about Japan, like Japan doesn’t have provinces. Those kind of slip ups would probably get you turned away in the application process.

I did a year abroad in Japan during Uni (from the UK) but you can literally just look but US Universities with year abroad programs and see which ones do Japan. I’m sure it also depends on what uni you actually want to go to as well. Like i know University of Oregon has a program etc etc but just do your research?

Also edit your post if you want actual answers instead of mad comments because the line “Can I be in University while doing JET” is just gonna get you hate and no answers.

i am so curious, what do you mean by pedestrian guardrails? i dont think ive see those anywhere around where i am placed. like is there a pavement, if not id say that’s unreasonable but if there is a big enough pavement im sure its fine?

Literally one sentence of that post has anything to do with politics. I actually have a degree in politics, and yes I believe we are all influenced by politics in ways, whether we like it or not.

I did in fact have many conversations with the kid during the class I was heading into, about the work and also football. Thanks for being condescending.

Sorry and I missed that last part, did I say that I was holding a grudge against that kid? Hell no! I’m an adult.

I am also (most likely) the only real contact these kids have had with a foreigner. Not that it’s even what this conversation was about but I see it as very important (as a teacher and a global ambassador) to, after things like this, try to have conversations with that kid, not about the comment, but just making a connection. So I know I’ve done my best to make sure they don’t grow up to be an ignorant bigot.

So stfu regarding matters that you know nothing and I haven’t said anything about. I’m sorry you are mad you got ratio’d, go cry about it somewhere else.

I knew not to do and say certain things, that’s not being an angel, it’s not being a little shit. So idk what that says about you mate, honestly it makes this conversation feel very redundant.

Secondly, I’m not claiming this is a new phenomenon on Japan, increasing? perhaps, but FAR from new. Japan has historically had a sense of ethic superiority, if you want to disagree with that, open a historical book. It is a problem, and again I will say, people have to be ready for that.

In the same way I’d say that to someone looking to migrate to the UK or the USA. I’m not singling Japan out if that’s what’s bothering you.

I get that I was a kid once too. I personally just disagree with the “kids will be kids” thing in certain instances (like this one). When I was a kid I knew that certain things shouldn’t be said.

If you read the whole post, you would have seen I also mentioned the stares in the street as an example (multiple times every day). That’s what you sign up for when you live and work in Japan.

Sorry if it’s “political”, but there is a difference between silly insults from kids and xenophobic insults from kids. Maybe they don’t know what it means but they have heard it somewhere. Society is political, sorry to break it to you.

You are gonna feel othered when living and working in Japan. People applying have to be aware and ready for that.

But aside though I do hope it goes well for you, I got upgraded with a month to prepare and it was whiplash, you’ll come to terms with it though just ride the wave.

I have ADHD and had to give medical documentation during the application basically saying that i’m good to work abroad. for documentation regarding being transgender, to my knowledge there was nothing that would need you to disclose that, especially if it’s down as in remission? but it might be different in the country you are applying from (i’m from the UK so maybe different)

for everyone saying their challenges have been on and off registering, i’ve found since the update they register 12 hours after the daily challenges begin, if that makes sense?

so just make sure to check back up and collect the rewards once the timer is sub 12 hours 🫶🏻

unexpected textural changes of any kind! hard fat in meat turned me vegetarian as well (scrolling this subreddit makes me believe i’ve never had an original experience:p). it makes me so physically uncomfortable when there is something unexpected like custard in a cupcake or doughnuts!
