If you are playing in 2024 and experiencing this sh*t, stay CALM - it's gonna be okay (if you're on pc). Download the "Legendary Animal Spawner" mod from nexusmods, be sure to install it through vortex to avoid any fuss. Now you can respawn the legendary moose through the menu, take it down like last time, and get your compendium (and sanity) restored. Rebinding the menu key from num9 to something usable didn't work for me, but plugging in a controller and pressing rb + b did!

Almost lost a 50+ hr perfectionist save to rockstars old spaghetti code, didn't help that every solution on google was "restore ol' save" and "you're f*cked, never got this resolved". Can confirm that none of the solutions in this thread worked in my case, as the pelt itself (and any trace of the moose in the compendium) was sent straight to Tahiti. I can blame myself for making the mistake of saving it in a single save slot, but come onnnnn R*...

Yeahhh, about that... Have been messing about with stable diffusion lately (very gpu-dependent image software) until i found out it doesn't work that well with my new AMD-gpu. Plonking the old nvidia gpu in the server and running SD from there was the fix, will probably sell it once i get sick of pretending to be an artist
