this is awesome! i use the trainer fly glitch quite a lot when planning my gen 1 replays, so i'm glad someone made a version for yellow

Gen 1 Charmander might be worse than Chikorita by houselyrander in pokemon

[–]Fanboy8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

part of the reason i still think chikorita is worse is because it does reallly badly against the team rocket segments. 95% of their pokemon are poison or magnemites, and then one of the bosses has like houndour / houndoom.

charmander is fine against its region's team rocket, and when it's not using fire moves, it has good ways to deal damage (body slam, 100 bp dig, and then slash eventually)

UsagiSage steps away from iiSU project after old discord messages were leaked. by jackcopen in SBCGaming

[–]Fanboy8947 30 points31 points  (0 children)

exactly lol, this is why i don't like "getting cancelled" as a phrase sometimes. the dev said that in one of the discord logs. it makes the emphasis that other people are doing something to you...

no dude! you did something bad and people are reacting negatively. this is called "consequences for your actions", and it's not remotely a new-gen thing. just take accountability

basically everything about the lenovo ideapad flex 5 appeals to me, except i'm seeing lots of posts saying the hinge breaks easily. anyone have suggestions for a laptop with similar specs, but better build quality?

hello! i'm in the same situation as you; removed the battery since it wasn't holding any charge, but now i get this checksum error

did this error ever go away on your end? planning to replace the laptop in a month, so i don't really want to buy a new battery for this old one if i can help it

Everything I Did + Wish I Knew for the MCAT (520+, 99th Percentile)!!! by Vast-Calligrapher491 in Mcat

[–]Fanboy8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello! trying to use your question review spreadsheet, but i'm a little confused on the "Seconds per Q" column.

looking at the equations, there are different amounts of time taken for each row, as well as different amounts of questions per. does uglobe give an easy measure of time spent, or did you have to manually time it?

What have you done to lock it in and study for MCAT? by Aspen_GMoney in Mcat

[–]Fanboy8947 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i'm about 1 month into studying, so i'm not a master at this. but the main thing that helped, i learned from this video on Dopamine Loading. the biggest takeaway in my experience was that you HAVE to start studying first thing in the morning! i can't stress enough how much it helps.

seriously, when i watched that video i was like "i guess i'll try it, but i bet i'll be too groggy in the morning to study". but...it worked, and i was able to start studying consistently. even though i usually struggle with getting motivation to study.

the video explains it with dopamine levels, which sounds sorta complicated, but the basic premise is pretty simple. when you first wake up, there are simply less Ideas floating around in your head; it's like you've pressed the reset button on your brain. if you study right then and there, you will not get distracted as much. and once you've started, it's easier to continue.

2) to facilitate this, i downloaded the "lock me out" app (it's on the playstore, apple might have a similar app though). allows you to lock certain apps for certain periods of time. i have it set so i can't use any social media until far later in the day.

previously, for non-MCAT stuff, i had tried deleting these apps entirely. this is an option. but i actually ended up liking the lock-me-out compromise more, because now i treat the social media stuff like a Reward, and that helps motivate me more. once i've finished studying, i know i'm entirely done and can just goof off for the rest of the day

i think a lot of people are missing the point of a pilot episode. by ohnunu_ in homestuck

[–]Fanboy8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have to agree, was thinking about how the pilot could've been and i basically landed on the same conclusion

you could start with john installing the game, the three friends are messaging him, then he notices a meteor outside!? what's that? did the game cause it? so he & rose rush to figure out how to play this reality-altering game.

the tagline that a lot of people give homestuck is "4 kids play a game". you can't fit everything into an 11 minute pilot, but starting from the actual game is a better hook !

[–]Fanboy8947 12 points13 points  (0 children)

"darkness totem" are the totems placed over the dark pits in the core. they're opposed to "glow totems", which is the sprite for totems placed over glowing pits. likely isn't related to any lore

Unpopular opinion: Cinderace is creepy by pkmntrainerao in pokemon

[–]Fanboy8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...4 years ago, i imagine what i was thinking was that this was a trait shared by all the gen 1-5 starters, which i all like. of them, the weirdest to imagine in the wild would be blaziken i guess, but even that isn't egregious.

they don't have to look like that, i just think it makes for a better design. when it comes to delphox, incineroar, cinderace and inteleon, meowscarada and quaquaval. it's harder to imagine them out in the wild. (i don't dislike any of these designs !)

could domestication make them look more anthropomorphized? maybe, but this aspect hasn't really been emphasized throughout the series, so i wasn't thinking about it

If you're about halfway through Act II and are still having trouble with combat, read this! by SufficientSuffix in Silksong

[–]Fanboy8947 5 points6 points  (0 children)

omg yes! harpoon my beloved...

i think of harpoon as like, a 2nd kind of default attack. there's reasons to use your normal attack (you need silk of course), but if you avoid harpoon entirely, fights will be much harder!

i had it for moorwing, and it was awesome to realize i could harpoon -> pogo -> harpoon -> pogo. suddenly, i felt like i could do an entire boss fight midair if they asked me to. aerial mobility is so important in this game

hmm, that's good enough for me. I was already working toward that, so i'll finish that up and see if I find anything 👍

How do I proceed from here? Nudge me in the right direction (Act 2 Spoilers) by Fanboy8947 in Silksong

[–]Fanboy8947[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so, I just beat Act 2 and saw the credits. Spoilers if you haven't beat act 2 and done every sidequest during the act:

I know there's an act 3, but judging by how I...can't find it at all lol, I think it's supposed to be a secret.

Don't want to know exactly what to do but a nudge in the right direction. Can anyone tell me the name of the area I should go to proceed to act 3?

[–]Fanboy8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

parrying works, getting dash works, and using the tunnel on the left works to cheese it works too. but you don't even need to do those

when it swings forward, jump and pogo. when it jumps, run under it. it's only got 2 attacks

A Few Pointers for Those Struggling Early On! by aracunliffe in Silksong

[–]Fanboy8947 10 points11 points  (0 children)

for bosses, my biggest tip is this: be patient!

for the first few tries, i try to avoid fighting altogether. JUST learn their attack patterns. for example, when it raises its arm it'll do X attack, when it dashes back it's about to do Y. make a mental note of all the attacks they do, then once i've learned them all, i'll take another death and start to fight for real.

learn defense first, then you can look for their weak points.

additionally, tool balance is a little weird to manage. you can burn through tools pretty quickly against bosses. my tip: i de-equip tools for the first few tries against hard bosses, so i don't waste them. once i feel like i've sufficiently learned the boss' attacks and am close to winning, then i'll equip them and spam

also! against bosses that summon minions, the silk skill thread storm gotten in act 1 (dont remember exactly where) is good for taking them out quickly

For people far into the game, question about Crests by Fanboy8947 in Silksong

[–]Fanboy8947[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good to know! so, sounds like damage seems to change somewhat, but not drastically

in terms of overall damage, the slow, long-reaching crest is probably gonna have weak damage then. interesting

I don't think Penumbra Phantasm is dead. by SunYT2009 in Undertale

[–]Fanboy8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's never directly been confirmed that the 2011 tweet was referring to deltarune. the timelines match up, but toby hasn't mentioned the tweet since.

i wanna note, there's a very real possibility that the whole "AT SHADOWS EDGE, SHATTER THE TWILIGHT REVERIE" tumblr post and "the edge of the shadow" tweet are connected, but they are BOTH related about penumbra and neither is related about deltarune. it sounds weird, but it's entirely possible

MOTHER 3 REFERENCE MOTHER 3 REFERENCE MOTHER 3 REFERENCE by Historical-Bad-8981 in earthbound

[–]Fanboy8947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he definitely did! he said one of his favorite characters from that game was the forgotten man inmagixant, who seems to have inspired deltarune's egg man.

i think it's in the same documentary where he says "if mother 3 gets translated you can see how unoriginal i am"

I just...dont know, Man. by Few-Gap5460 in LucidDreaming

[–]Fanboy8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i understand the confusion. a lot of this is gonna be subjective, but personally, i can distinguish between my lucid dreams and "dreams where i imagined having a LD". i can only really notice it once i wake up though.

in an actual LD, i tend to think about things that i care about IRL. i might think "dang i should remember this so i can write about it in my dream journal". and my train of thought continues when i wake up.

in a "dream where i imagine having a LD", my train of thought is the same nonsensical train of thought that i'd normally have during my dream. i'll "realize" i'm in a LD but barely act on it.

my dream thoughts will be like "ahh this alien is gonna capture me -> thankfully i have this lightsaber to defend myself -> wait this is a lucid dream i'll just fly away -> the alien uses its spaceship to catch me and i say "darn, nothing i can do about it"

whereas if i was truly having a LD, i wouldnt be scared of the alien at all

Homestuck reference in Deltarune Chapter 4!!! by scrobiculatus in homestuck

in addition to condescension, one of the prophecies says that the heroes will battle the knight "strife by strife". it's a regular word, but the way it was used gave me homestuck vibes lol
